We have a good few lads who haven't had a run at the League with the County. And we have other lads on the team, forwards who aren't prolific from play with their clubs, and backs whose decision making can often be poor at club and college level.

Replying To WEXILE:  "Positives for me was we are.scoring goals. Also Liam Ryan got through the game without injury fingers crossed. Good to see Mac back.

Must be some reason 2 Cians dropped. All in all a deflating day. The manner of the defeat was concerning.

Season possibly finished on May 10th? Even if Dublin beat Galway we've lost head to head.

I might be wrong, too sick to look at permutations but Offaly game is basically a game we need something from.to 100% guarantee we are safe.

Deflated and demoralised,.concerned for next few years"
We can still finish 3rd, in a 3 way tie on 6 points. But our score difference is #### now.

Replying To Past hurler:  "What do lads here expect?

The standard of hurling in Wexford at levels is slow and agricultural from schools, underage and right up to senior.

If a chap aged 7 to 17 is playing at that slow standard of hurling all his life in Wexford in his club or in development squads against similar type hurlers it's very hard to flick that switch as an adult when you are under the most pressure against top class inter county hurlers.

There is a reason we are not successful at underage, schools, club and county hurling. We are too SLOW at executing every skill in the book.

I can count around 8-10 incidents in the match today when we fumbled the ball under pressure and were punished instantly by Galway on the scoreboard either from play or a free, you will get away with that against other slow executing skilled counties such as as Antrim and Offaly but when you come up against the counties who play hurling at a faster level all their lives you will be punished time and time again for slow hurling."
I'd agree except we seem to be able to play with more intensity at least once a year.

Replying To WEX98:  "Disagree. Few mistakes today yes. But the real issue here is how they are been asked to play and how they are been coached. Des Mythen was across from me today, Charlie got a ball in the second half on our 45 right beside the side line. Mythen was roaring at him from the stand to carry it.
Every ball our backs got they carried into trouble like U14s. Charlie did the same with this ball. You carry when you need to break the tackle or get away from trouble. If you get the ball in space you don't saunder up to the nearest opposition player, then back track, or panic and play a stupid pass. You get the ball up the field as far as you can, making sure you give the next Wexford player the best opportunity of winning the ball."
After our minor defeat to Kilkenny I posted that we looked to be playing a short game for its own sake, rather than using it as a means to an end, getting the ball more accurately into the opposition half to give our forwards the best chance to score. Seems our Seniors are the same.

Unfortunately that's what happens when opposition are able to somewhat nullify Chin we have nobody else at that level able to step up and take the game.Decent club players in Wexford but at that level prob 1 or 2 teams above Joe Mc level. Gutted after a long day out enjoyed the build up first time at game in Galway but a desperate drive home to be honest.Wouldnt fault the effort but we are not good enough.Getting rid of Rossiter won't make a difference.

I was frustrated with McGuckin today big time actually it wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last. But I felt for him when he was subbed off and.sat on the bench right in front of me, he was devastated.

He makes a huge effort I wonder does he try too hard. He's probably not a great standard I'd him just.clear it or pick out a man with crossfield pass or something but if running the ball is the instructions from management then maybe its.time for the management team to go not McGuckin.

We should move mountains to get Tom Mulally. A good manager would have a good game plan

Spot on, players being picked just because they hurled county minor or u21 in the past, players need to be picked based on club form. Where are all the St.Martins/Rathnure lads ??

Certainly not going to kick anyone while down but here we are 3 weeks into the championship and its get ready for division 1b and next years championship. Its very easy to be wise after the event and as ive said several times keith rossitor is a gentleman. He knew taking on this job that the good crop was coming to an end and it was going to be a few tough days out and patience needed but the talk all week was who was going to mark cathal mannion and i nearly jumped in over the terrace the amount of times he ended up unmarked. Very unlucky with shane reck getting injured before the match but seamus casey decision completely backfired. I cant remember him having the ball in his hand. We spoke all week about running at the galway defense but only done it for a few minutes in the second half.
Thankfully antrim have being very poor because i wouldn't like to be playing offally to stay up granted they were also very poor against kk. Its very dissapointing the last 2 matches are dead rubbers. Its depressing and very hard to be positive today. Id be very worried players like Fanning, jippo, chin and kevin foley are in the twilight of their careers i dont know where the next group of leaders will come from. When we look back in hindsight winning just one measley leinster final was a very bad return for a good team.it will be a long time before a leinster title is won again. Thats not being negative its being realistic.veey dissapointing to exit the championship so early

You disagree? You have validated my point with your answer though.

Limerick won 4 in a row by carrying the ball out of defence!

The difference? Limerick had the players to execute it, Quaid to Finn, Finn to Hannon and Hannon offloads to Hayes who powers up the field or hits a ball into Gillane or Flanagan who can win it high ow low.

Wexford want to do that, but can't because the backs don't have the skillset or are too slow under pressure to do it against the elite forwards, who overturn them.

Most of the times when the backs did deliver the ball in today, Galways defence ate our forwards alive and came out with the ball.

Galway were more up for this game at home with Michael O Donoghue then they were away from
Home last under Shefflin.

That was a tough trip to Galway today to be honest. I love Wexford but it gets very hard to keep following them. I thought after the Dublin game, where in fairness the referee screwed us on every big call, that we would get a backs to the wall, fighting for our lives performance like we did against Galway this time last year. And in the end it was one of the most frustrating performances I've ever witnessed. Galway were not even good, they were actually there for the taking if we had hurled at all, and we lost by 10 points. I know we're not world beaters, but I don't believe for a second that those players are not capable of better than that. Not one Wexford man you could say had a good game.

We ran at them about 3 times, scored 2 goals and could have had another if Dunbar after making a great run didn't decide to pass back to a man surrounded by 4 players instead of having a shot himself. We consistently ran into trouble in our own half and coughed up ridiculously stupid scores. The thing I don't get is that we all know the outrageous commitment those lads put in to play for the county, and I don't want to have a go at any of them as the training they put in is beyond the comprehension of 80-90% of normal lads, but to do all that and come out with a performance like that in a season defining game absolutely defies logic. I just cannot understand it.

This needs to be a massive wake up call for Wexford hurling, its do or die now. All the fancy facilities and well-balanced financial books are not worth anything if that's the end result at senior level. We need to be getting hurls into the hands of as many young lads as possible from as young an age as possible. Should we look at restructuring the championships to bring back district teams at senior level like there was back in the day? Then everyone has access to high level club hurling if they're good enough. Brave decisions have to be made, we need to try something because what we are doing is just not working. The 4 main towns cannot be left to rot as hurling wastelands any longer, huge population centres and only 3 half decent clubs between them. Without a decent few lads from the towns on our teams we are at nothing, as they often have a bit more cut in them than the country lads, even more so nowadays as there are less hard as nails, bull ignorant farmers doing the rounds. A huge focus needs to be put on the towns in the next few years in my opinion, as once they are lost completely they may never be recovered from a hurling point of view. Even New Ross used to have savage hurlers and now absolutely nothing.

I'm very deflated after going to see that today, and the usual thoughts of packing following Wexford in are going through my mind, but deep down I know I'll be back for more pain and misery. Loch Garman Abú

In years gone by after a defeat I was depressed for days afterwards. Not anymore. I get over it almost immediately now as we get rolled over so regularly that it's almost a foregone conclusion that we will under perform, getting bossed by top tier teams and wilting when the pressure comes on.
Occasionally we pull out a performance but it's all so rare. If we beat Kilkenny and we have, we jump for joy and falsely think we are great and celebrate for weeks only to be brought straight back down to earth in our next game.
It was criminal to leave some lads on the pitch for 50 minutes or more yesterday when it was obvious to everyone that they were not up to standard.
We do have some good hurlers but unfortunately not enough of them.
Going forward it's hard to see us making an impact in the near future with the current crop but maybe, just maybe the last two results might ignite some passion and intensity in our remaining games and finish the group games with a couple of wins but it looks like it will be too little too late.

Mcguckin is one of our best at breaking tackles. But we need him to move the ball quickly and accurately without bringing the ball into contact. Even the biggest intercounty hurlers find it hard to break tackles at Senior level. The average Senior intercounty hurler is just too strong these days, and teams are being coached to swarm the ball carrier. Often its not 1 tackler Charlie is trying to get through, but several at the same time.

I agree, wexfords downfall was predicted by a great man, he set up the 365 in the schools and it worked great, after a number of successive years, people took their foot off the pedal and didn't bother with it and should of listened to him he was 100% right! It all happens in the schools first not the clubs

Barry O'Connor is in Oz. David Codd injured. Would've liked to see more of Darren, he wasn't great first time out, but who is? Barrett, Lawlor and AJ don't want to play intercounty apparently. Philip Dempsey is with the Footballers.
