Tailteann Cup 2023

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tailteann Cup is a great setup for D4 counties, every one of them wants to play in D3 but getting out of D4 can be very tough so in the TC they get to play two games against D3 teams, that's a great yardstick for them in terms of where they are. I don't think there would be any interest in a third tier for D4 counties as its no different than the league. For me the TC is not just about winning it for these counties but using it as a way of bettering their game. The only change I would make is all the provincials should be seeded draws. If the decision on who is in the TC Is based on league seeding then everything that feeds into that should also be based on seedings.

Limerick v Clare. Clare were favourites after beating Cork. Limerick put in a good effort. They could go on to have a good Tailteann.
Offaly v Louth. Offaly went to extra time. Not to be on this occasion. Brave effort though after knocking out Meath. Meath and Offaly might meet again in the Tailteann. Offaly can be in the mix.
Down v Donegal. Tough loss against Armagh but Down got a good win over Donegal.
Cavan v Armagh
Armagh was a tough draw for Cavan. Division 2 football should help Cavan qualify next year.

Seed 1. Meath, Cavan, Fermanagh, Limerick
Seed 2. Down, Offaly, Antrim, Wicklow
Seed 3. Longford, Tipperary, Laois, Leitrim
Seed 4. Wexford, Carlow Waterford, London

Meath, Cavan, Down and Offaly to make the Tailteann semi-finals? If some get drawn in the same group it's good news for the rest."
wexford are 3rd seeds leitrim 4th

Armagh was a very winnable draw for us I thought.
We just didn't show up. 16 wides is criminal in any championship game.

Not sure how I rate our chances in the TC. It's time to start a bit of a transition for us and we blooded a few guys in the league while still achieving promotion. I'd like to see more younger lads get game time but that could well come at a cost as there's a bit of a fall off in quality when you go beyond our first 15.

Am I right in saying Seed 1 plays Seed 4 away? If so, hoping for another trip to London!

Looks like being 3rd or 4th seed didn't matter in the end-up between Wexford / Leitrim.

Tailteann Cup groups

Group 1: Cavan, Offaly, Laois, London

Group 2: Meath, Down, Tipperary, Waterford

Group 3: Limerick, Wicklow, Longford, Carlow

Group 4: Fermanagh, Antrim, Wexford, Leitrim

Cavan and Offaly in Group 1. Meath and Down in Group 2. The 4 semi-final favourites are in two groups. Might profit Fermanagh and Limerick.

Any word yet on what ticket prices GAA are putting on these games?

To try entice crowds to 3 group games, which aren't cut edge do or die championship games would hope GAA don't charge more than 10 euro per game or there could be some very empty grounds with zero atmosphere which be a major negative in developing such a new competition

They should do a €20 ticket to cover each Counties 3 group games in the TC.
A €40 say for the Sam ones.

These competitions are there to make money so I do not see any special deals. There was no special deals for the Super 8's. I can see normal championship rates been applied across the board maybe the TC tickets will be 5 euro cheaper similar to National League.

Have we any ideas where the neutral venues might be or when they'll be released?

Pretty bad draw for Offaly considering. At home to London who they'd be expected to beat anyway and wouldn't draw a crowd. Other games are tough like away in Laois in a local derby. 3rd not guaranteed to go through

Yeah only released fixtures for round one????

Didn't confirm fixtures for 20th/21st May even, yet provincial championship games in April/May near confirmed after draw in October!!

Don't see why did all ireland group draw if not going to confirm fixtures until after provincial finals anyway
