Celebrations in 1996 were definitely in The Grand Hotel in Malahide. Was lucky enough to be there myself for some of them.

I stand corrected then. I was in the Stillorgan Park which was bursting with Wexford fans. I'd earlier been in the premium level bar at Croke Park with the team and the cup so must have confused it. My old brain ain't what it used to be.

Hard to believe we haven't been in an All Ireland since.

1968 - 1996 = 28 year gap

1996 - 2023 = 27 year gap

1 All Ireland Senior Hurling title in 54 years.

So 2024 is our year! What's even worse is that we've not been to a final since 1996. Only 8-9 teams play this game at a high level. That's the biggest embarrassment.

Did they in fact win two Intermediate (or Junior titles) in that time?

Could be worse.

It's poor stuff really when you think of it.

In that regard Wexford and Dublin would at the bottom of the 9 hurling counties.

Not near good enough for a county who loves their hurling like we do

2009-2012 was really the pits, we've actually recovered well enough from that bleak period given how low we were are at that point, bit like Welsh rugby at the moment that was a case of years of mismanagement really coming up to roost. Hopefully we'll never sink that far again.

Just to show you can prove anything with statistics......

Wexford is the most successful in recent decades of all the main hurling counties. We're the only ones with a 100% records in All-Ireland Finals over the past 40 years.

The Kerry hurlers are even better again so.

They have a 100% record in All Ireland finals
since beating Wexford in 1891.

1891 All Ireland senior hurling final
Kerry 2-3 1-5 Wexford
Venue : Clonturk Park, Dublin
Attendance: 2,000

Outside of the big 3 everyone else has had bigger gaps than us in my lifetime. Waterford and Dublins are still ongoing they haven't won one since a long time before I was born and I'm no spring chicken. Limericks was 40 + years. Up until 2018 like us they'd only won one in my lifetime. Galway had a gap around 10 years more than our current one when they won in 2017. When Clare won in 1995 it ended a gap that stretched back to around when my grandfather was born.

Wexford won 2 of each since 1968

Not at all. Every other county bar the big 3 has had longer droughts in my lifetime.

I still wear my replica Jersey from that period to games. Maybe I should stop doing that: D

Yeah we won the all Ireland junior title in '92 and I think the other was around '85…?

Was only thinking the other day, we're the only traditional hurling county not to contest a senior final this century, unless you count antrim.

I don't normally count Dublin for the simple reason that only one Dublin born man has ever won Liam Mccarthy.

This team could win another leinster.

Think we're pretty far off an all Ireland to be honest.
