McGrath was never getting the job.

Excellent player who owes the set up nothing. What a man to come back from 2 ACLs and play with the heart and skill he played with. He will be sorely missed but some of the other lads are going to need to step up either way. Hopefully he enjoys his trip.

I've heard that dee and mogie are both finished. Although heard the same about mogie last year. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3228 - 18/08/2023 10:44:32 2501118 Link 0 |

Best of luck to Keith Rossiter. Hope he's the man to improve our fortunes next year. Vital that he gets a top class management team in there with him HurlingBuzz (Wexford) - Posts: 528 - 18/08/2023 12:12:32 2501143 Link 0 |
Really hope Rossiter can step up. He seems a nice fella and in fairness started 9 lads from non senior clubs with the u20s this year. He will look for our best hurlers. Only worry I'd have is he never got the lads to win the close games in the 2 Leinster finals. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 14127 - 18/08/2023 12:17:01 2501145 Link 0 |
Just heard a rumour of Anthony Cunningham coming in as coach. Great job if true.

Brendan Furlong speculating Frank Flannery, heard David Franks and Joe Kearns myself.

Frank Flannery mentioned in the Irish independent which is not surprising considering their past oulart connection

Agree these lads owe us nothing BUT its still hard to see them go and they will be a big loss. Chin may go too and that would be a MASSIVE blow, Keith needs a core of experienced players to build around. We have to give Rossi space now, give him our unquestioned support and best wishes. It's a tough gig. A really classy player, top lad from a great family, good luck to him and Up Wexford. wexford2012 (Wexford) - Posts: 88 - 18/08/2023 13:59:59 2501173 Link 0 |
Great that we are keeping it local, would always be an advocate of it being the better approach in the long-run. I know its policy in Kilkenny and other counties, but two examples of it definitely reaping rewards in football this year are in Monaghan and Down (with ex-players of a similar age profile to Keith). beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1460 - 18/08/2023 14:23:39 2501185 Link 0 |
Best of luck to rossiter and his management..I'd love to see Wexford back competing for Leinster and all Ireland honours on a constant basis..it's the right way to go aswell having one of yere own.. CTGAA10 (Limerick) - Posts: 2404 - 18/08/2023 15:40:53 2501206 Link 0 |
Frank Flannery & David Franks are both definitely coming in as coaches.

I wish him luck but the appointment is a bit underwhelming if I'm honest. Seems like there wasn't all the interest in the job that we thought there would be…Brennan, Herity etc. and now the Co Board have foisted the job onto someone who may not even want it and certainly doesn't have the experience. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong. He definitely needs a really good back room team and not just his mates from oulart

What makes you think that he didn't want the job? I'm sure he has a mind of his own and I would be pretty sure the county board didn't put a gun to his head. Maybe he applied for the position or maybe he was contacted by the committee. I simply don't know but if he wasn't interested all he had to say was " thanks but no thanks" I honestly believe he said yes because he is passionate about Wexford hurling and as I said in an earlier post would put his heart and soul into it. Has he got the experience? well yes and no. Remember he worked with Davy as a backs coach and selector for five years. He managed our u20s for the last two years. Not winning trophys but he came close. He hasn't got senior intercounty management experience but I think that would be overcome in time. Even if we had got a seasoned manager with experience he may not have been the answer to our problems. There is no quick fix or magic wand it's going to be a gradual process. I feel Rossi will get the best out of the lads at his disposal. I'm fairly certain he will get guys to commit that wouldn't before. Therefore the panel will hopefully grow stronger and ultimately bring success yes in my opinion Keith is a good appointment. Time will tell of course as it always does so let's get behind him and wish him well . Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 386 - 19/08/2023 09:52:22 2501267 Link 0 |
Delighted with the appointment, if a Wexford man was getting it he was the obvious choice, I'd imagine he'll know every player in Wexford, players born 2002/03 will be massive for our future so hopefully the lads who didn't commit this year in that age bracket will under Rossi especially after playing u20 for him. Well, here are the players I'd ask to be in the squad if I were in Keith's shoes (Not necessarily the players who'll commit and not necessarily in order of preference). I could have forgotten a few by mistake too.... ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 358 - 19/08/2023 10:38:48 2501274 Link 0 |
