Christ this reporter is setting the bar very low if that is considered a reason as to why he is in contention!!"
Brilliant post!

Former Waterford manager Derek McGrath has been linked with the race for the vacant Wexford position.

McGrath is understood to be one of the figures under consideration for the job along with former Wexford inter-county hurler and U20 hurling manager Keith Rossiter to fill the position vacated following the decision of the county board not to extend the term of Darragh Egan.

Rossiter was considered the favourite for the role last week but it has since emerged that McGrath is now very much in the running to return to inter-county management.

The schoolteacher has spoken with members of the special committee set up by the county board following last Sunday's county senior hurling semi-finals.

McGrath has been involved in the Wexford club scene over the past two seasons having being coach to Lee Chin's Faythe Harriers, a factor that saw him come very much into contention having helped the club avoid relegation over his term as coach.

However, Oulart-the-Ballagh clubman Rossiter has many admirers in the county, coupled with the fact there is much pressure to have a Wexford man appointed to the helm of senior hurling affairs.

However, McGrath is now looked upon as a serious contender giving his inter-county management experience with Waterford, while more recently being involved with Laois minors.

In contrast, Rossiter has yet to sample the pressure which such a position brings.

Wexford are striving to have a manager in place and it is hoped that an announcement could be possible before Sunday's county senior hurling final."
I think most of us would love Keith Rossiter to be given a chance rather than Derek McGrath

Inter county management teams are now about more than 1 man. The coach is as important as the manager in most setups now.
But no matter who Wexford appoint, if players can't or won't commit then it will be the same result with a different punch bag.

Rumour running round Clare, hotbed of rumours it has to be said, is that Lee Chin is retiring from intercounty. Hopefully that's utter #####!

We will likely be down some due to travelling though. I couldn't in all conscience tell a lad in his 20s that he shouldn't broaden his horizons though.

If Mcgrath has withdrawn that means he was told he didn't get the job... He's getting it in before they announce their man.

I'd be pretty sure Lee Chin would issue a statement to that effect if its true. As Paul Morris and Harry Kehoe did.

Im hoping we can keep this years panel together aswell as adding lads like like Cian Molloy, Jack Cullen , Aj Redmond and Conor Mahoney who have plenty of potential. Also some of this years under 20s with huge potential we need all our best young players to commit.

I'm nearly certain that unfortunately we won't have everyone next year that we had this year. At the same time it's something that affects every county. Hurling is something you can do when you have a young family. A years travelling and seeing the world isn't.
Also there will always be lads with skill to burn but cant or won't commit to the rigours of intercounty. Life is all about choices.

Id be amazed if we have everyone too. The likes of Matt O Hanlon, Dee , Lee Chin & Liam Og have been fantastic servants and I nobody can hold anything against them if they decided to give all their efforts to their club. All these lads still have a huge amount to offer though

People are talking about the lads like they are past it. OK Matthew O Hanlon has missed alot of the championship with injury, but he was excellent the 2nd half the last day. And the other 3 lads were all candidates for club hurler of the year. And they are all only between 30 and 32. I'd be fully hoping all 4 will be involved next year, and the year after too.
