Tailteann Cup 2022

In my opinion if you asked the players if they could play in small stadium with 10/15k in attendance compared to a empty Croke park they would choose the small stadium all day long because it would make them feel important. Look at the minor hurling final between Laois and Offaly them young lads felt important that night and will never forget that game.

Then again I can understand that getting to play in Croke park as a player is dream of every young lad!

Having Offaly v Westmeath a home venue, would make more sense for both counties, and Cavan v Sligo could toss for home venue. That won't happen, an expensive day out, with fuel costs and meals etc, for supporters.

The lower hurling tiers want their day out in Croke Park. The semi-finals in Croke Park and on TV is a nod to the respect being shown to this new tournament. The 2022 Tailteann Cup winner will be the first county to secure qualification for the 2023 Sam Maguire 16 group stage. Massive reward!

Replying To eoinog:  "Sorry, competition isn't for you.
It's for the players.
They have embraced it and one of the big selling points was that the semi final and finals would be in Croke Park.
Nicky Rackard, Joe Mc Donagh All Ireland Club finals should all be in neutral venue so as they don't have many followers.
Big furore a few weeks ago when U.21 football was in neutral venue.
When the players come out and say we don't want to play in Croke Park. It's too big , then the GAA will look into it"
But playing in Croke park is nothing special anymore. It's been totally diluted, you don't even have to be much good to get to play there.
Nothing magical about playing on front of 65/70 000 empty seats.

It's much like the FA cup since they moved the semi finals to Wembley. It took away from the the whole idea of making it there for the final.

I have yet to hear any player or manager say we don't want to play in Croke Park.

It was just a selling ply for the Tialteann Cup to help get more teams to buy into it…. I doubt semifinals will ever be played there again….

Well yeah, Cavan are odds on favourites.

The only risk there was ever going to be was whether we treated it like we treated the league over the past 4 years or we treated it like a championship.

Only Dublin, Donegal and Tyrone have beaten us in championship football in the last 5 seasons. So it would be a shock if we don't win this out, even allowing for the blooding of 2 or 3 u20s as has happened so far.

the major flaw in tailtean cup is that no team got a second chance that lost in sam maguire they got second chance it seems unfair to me it was just straight knockout

It's not just the Tailteann Cup it's the wider obsession with having as many games as possible in Croke Park.

Every team got a 1st chance in their provincial championship, and every team got a 2nd chance.
It's just that teams in Div 1+2 got their 2nd chance in the AI SFC and teams in Div 3+4 got their 2nd chance in the Tailteann Cup.

I'm not being arrogant at all.

We're odds on favourites with every bookie. That's me just stating a fact.

I know but my point was that by playing so many fixtures there the place has just completely lost its aura imo.
And besides, as much as I appreciate the sacrifices our footballers and hurlers make, you shouldn't get to play at Croker just because you want to. It should be earned, and hard earned at that.

Sure only Galway or Mayo beat us.

Westmeath v Cavan is a strong possibility for the inaugural final. Both are well capable of promotion to Division 2 next year and to be challenging each other to stay there the year after. Has the potential to be an interesting rivalry over the next few years. Offaly and Sligo of course will have a lot to say about this.
