I think penalties are far better than a golden score tbh. With penalties, at least both teams have chances with their takers and keeper. It's not the best option, but which is? We all know what we're in for if we play 90 odd mins and they're still not separated.

As a dub living in Sligo, I would have a bias, watching the game on Gaago my first reaction to the goal was "square ball" but no replays on Gaago so hopefully we will see tonight, however to say nowhere near square ball is definitely wrong, if it wasn't it was certainly close. Tough for Leitrim to lose on penos. If Sligo lost they would be kicking themselves, had more than enough chances to win comfortably.

I'd have 45s before penalties and as i already said there was time. The semi finals of this B All Ireland aren't on until two weeks so a replay could have been played next weekend.

Cavan are probably favourites? Cavan should win this without breaking sweat and if they don't it will be disastrous for them.

Sligo had ball over bar last kick of normal time. Don't know how it wasn't spotted. Blatantly obvious seen it from my seat at back off stand in diagonal line with Reilly and Leitrim people behind the goals were saying it was over while the penalties were on.

Westmeath v Offaly, and Sligo v Cavan. No surprises there. North and South were kept apart the whole way through. Will be a good day of football on the 19th in Croker Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2466 - 06/06/2022 08:37:50 2422636 Link 0 |
what ? why ? We were a div 4 team.. offally were playing in Div 2 s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 06/06/2022 08:39:47 2422638 Link 0 |
maybe fair-play rules. team with the fewest black, yellow reds wins.. maybe have a look over the video and change any obvious mistakes by the officials. maybe give it to the team who took the lead first. maybe give it to the team who were ahead by the biggest margin during the game or maybe put it to a public vote

Well after watching that last night, umpires got square ball call badly wrong, asleep at the wheel, not good enough

Nowhere near good enough. I saw it myself, and he waited outside for the ball. How they got this wrong I don't know, a goal in extra time would have won it for Leitrim.

I know it's a big day out for Sligo, Offaly and Cavan fans but as a Westmeath supporter i find it hard to see more than 20k people at these semis in Croke Park while they are being shown on RTE. Temple56 (Westmeath) - Posts: 547 - 06/06/2022 10:54:41 2422694 Link 1 |
So Sligo and Cavan are local ??? I would have thought Cavan and Westmeath were local ?? Actually Cavan and Offaly aren't too far apart either. Cavan v Carlow would be a lot better or Sligo v Wexford. That would be great also. Oh feck I forgot Carlow and Wexford weren't in the draw. Very silly of the GAA. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2100 - 06/06/2022 11:15:07 2422707 Link 0 |
I admire your optimism Temple, there certainly won't be near 20k in attendance at same time, fixtures will be 2.5 hours apart to allow for extra time, can't see supporters of Westmeath heading in for first match. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2152 - 06/06/2022 11:16:49 2422708 Link 0 |
It was always the selling point I suppose, get to a semi and you get Croker. Both games there and both on TV. Remains to be seen how it goes I suppose

Sorry, competition isn't for you. It's for the players. They have embraced it and one of the big selling points was that the semi final and finals would be in Croke Park. Nicky Rackard, Joe Mc Donagh All Ireland Club finals should all be in neutral venue so as they don't have many followers. Big furore a few weeks ago when U.21 football was in neutral venue. When the players come out and say we don't want to play in Croke Park. It's too big , then the GAA will look into it eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2100 - 06/06/2022 11:20:54 2422711 Link 0 |
The players will definitely want to play in Croke Park. I think the argument of the smaller stadium and atmosphere is more for the Sam Maguire qualifiers. Reason being those teams have more than likely had their day at Croke Park over the last few years. The division 3 and 4 players have in the main not step foot in there in recent years so this opportunity is one which would never have been realistic before. I saw first hand the joy it brought the Antrim hurlers and supporters at the weekend and only 20% capacity at most. AntrimJim (Antrim) - Posts: 39 - 06/06/2022 12:43:46 2422748 Link 1 |
