Replying To preddan:  "what about 1998, beaten by offaly by a last minute goal, and with all the 1798 anniversary i think wexford were looking to give it a serious crack that year and looked better than offaly that day and offaly went on and won the AI"
Most of the players involved still mention that one as the most painful.

They had the pike on the Jersey and everything

Disastrous stuff from Wexford management. They were four points up with less than five minutes to go and John O'Connor was handing Eamon Morrissey his **** on a plate. Morrissey switched into Full Forward on the much slower Ger Cushe, and was allowed to get get four points in a row and the Wexford management never moved O'Connor back over on him. If ever a match was totally lost on the line that was it.
Going back to Wexford that night, in a pub, I mentioned it to a group of Wexford Supporters how the switch might have been made. One of them derisively said 'and you saw that at the time'. I simply said 'a blind man going by on a galloping horse would see that should have been done'.

Replying To katser:  "They were brilliant teams Offaly '94 and Wexford '96 who fully deserved their All Irelands.....I was absolutely delighted both won. John Troy and Martin Story were my favourite hurlers of that time hence both Centre Forwards....I'd record their matches and watch their little tricks, flicks and movement on the video!
Not only were they brilliant individuals but they were great for setting up scores for others."
have to agree cathy offaly and wexford were great wins but the one that stands out to me is my own county in 2018 .....to see the delight and celebrations of the limerick players was something else. but sport can be cruel and galway players just distraught .....there is even a poster on a gaa forum who hasnt got over it yet......4 yrs later.

Lots of talk about 1996 so here are a few memories of it:

Went as far as to book a train ticket 20 minutes before full time.

Will genuinely haunt me forever.

Remember when the whistle blue just thinking no this isn't right... They made a mistake.. This is our year"
It still haunts me as a supporter. Limerick were better than us that year but Kilkenny had done us a huge favour. I thought our name was on it and if nothing else but to experience the pageantry and build up to a final. The hype would have been unreal, win lose or draw.
Missed opportunity unfortunately. Anyway, we must move on.

True too Preddan. Unfortunately the backdoor only extended to beaten finalists then. In fairness to Offaly they grabbed that chance with both hands....

Mad too. I'm always happy when teams outside the big 3 win. It is usually the end of a long drought! Certainly wouldn't be bitter if we won it this year and say Waterford beat us in the final next year.

It was poetry in motion, nobody panicked, the pass at the end to Eamonn Morrisey from shiner Brennan was top drawer. It was a super game of hurling all round.

Good read there slayer, thanks for sharing and a nice release from studying.

One thing I saw before was that Tom Ryan said Gary Kirby's finger was cut? I will dig out the the article. I know the opinions will be different, Gary Kirby was stupid to pull back over his head like that. I wouldn't pull like that under a dropping ball in a million years and every centre back ever is going to pull on that ball.

My manager in work is a Limerick man and there is another Limerick man in our place. They both think they would trade some of the success being enjoyed for either a win in 94 or 96. But both also felt that in 94 they felt they were robbed but in 96 they felt they just were not good enough and lost to an inferior but better prepared team.

Jealous reading of other's past glories.

My older memories of Dublin are very modest:

Drawing with the Cats in league in 1976.

Beating Wexford in Leinster semi final in 1990.

Beating Cats in Walsh Cup final in 2003.

All pre- 2008 of course and some great days since. Wonder sometimes if we'll ever see a final.

Actually I think it was Adrian Ronan instead who gave that final pass.

I'll get back to 2022,very surprised with how strong limerick have gone..I expected at least 3,think kiely is saying we are here to win..Clare also very strong, not a hope jack Browne starts at midfield..expecting an almighry tussle with plenty of controversy, can't go against my own, limerick by 2 points..can't figure out cork team, same starting 1-8,Meade comes in,players are moved around but still looks like same oroblems exist..if Bennett,Hutchinson and kiely get enough ball,Waterford win..feel sorry for Shane kingston, scape goat again..I'm sure he can't wait for new management..in leinster I expect cats to have to much for Dublin..the othe 2 games have to go the way of Galway and Wexford..looking forward to a great weekend..

I was the same regarding limerick's strength. Serious team. Like you say, would have thought the likes of Gillane and maybe finn/nash in the backline would be benched. In would come Boylan and English. Extremely strong team all things considered. While still missing lynch, clare are missing Ian Galvin so quite even should be a great battle. I suppose have to think by my reckoning, if we lose by Clare by more than 6 and waterford pip them in Ennis then we lose out of a munster final spot. It's not really extraordinary circumstances even though at this point the odds are in our favour.
I back waterford to do a job on cork. I think they will win by 8. I don't think cork are playing for their management. To be honest they should have shown fire against us on their home patch and then to play the way they did against clare showed serious lack of bite in them. Perhaps too young. And maybe got too much respect because they got all the way to the final last year. They do have serious talent but their work ethic has been appalling.

Agree with CTGAA10. A very strong Limerick team and I think it was picked to win. Looks like the management feel the best road is to win and make it to the Munster Final then enjoy the break until then.

Fair play to Westmeath but Wexford are in big trouble now. If they can somehow win in Kilkenny will it be enough?

Shambolic Wexford....that draw tonight v Westmeath almost completely distroys my outright prediction that Wexford would finish 3rd...unless they beat Kilkenny!!!!
Thanks Wexford for nothing......because their goes my Outright prediction from the start of Galway 1st, Kilkenny 2nd, Wexford 3rd...

I'll probably put the willys up our football folk but that Dublin hurling team is crying out for Con O'Callaghan.

Can't believe Wexford could not beat Westmeath this evening..... We will probably hammer the daylights out of Dublin next weekend and they will still qualify for Quarter Finals..... I give Up!!
