Replying To Monaghanfan123:  "Issue not with Mulligan as I believe he rejoined the panel this season and then got dropped before Christmas. I've heard a few players weren't too happy with the decision too. Strange as right when Vinnie says he's looking for young players when a willing young player like that has been forced out of the panel."
Its v strange if he has been dropped. Fair enough if mgmt just don't rate him at inter county level for whatever reason but be a shame and a bad sign if its a carry over from his leaving the squad last year when Vinnie was part of the mgmt set up.

It was a bodyfat issue, stupid to be dropped from the squad because of an issue like that in December..

Seems personal especially when preseason is all abt getting fitter. Vinny looking for a particular type of player it seems

Sounds more like a scapegoat for a new management team to flex their muscles. Pity it came at the expense of a young player with buckets of potential who will undoubtably never wear a Monaghan jersey again

Likewise heard this was the issue. Hopefully not though.

Is this not the mgmt job to get these numbers down with the expert coaches they have and get him in his best possible shape? At the end of the day its Dec/Jan.. Who is in their best shape then??

Seems like it cld b something carried over especially when he was dropped before a ball was kicked. And isn't preseason a time to work on issues like body fat n fitness.

Player welfare not too high up in Monaghan managements agenda. Waste of a talent especially when Monaghan needs young players to come through

Michael looks like a different player to the one that I've seen before.. he was outpacing Down players.. any player who makes that improvement deserves consideration..

Micheal will never be intercounty midfield standard, this isn't a debate.

any word on when competitions will start? Given the new all-ireland system, it won't allow much time for league.

The great and powerful Oz has spoken!

Michael is a big mobile lad, with great hands and good feet - he can do a job for a manager with an imagination. The really great managers can see a player doing a specific job, where the mediocre managers just play the players that they are told are good. Big Mick might not be all things to all men, but Vinny might have a job in mind for him..

All these statements are questionable. Mobility is not his strong point, big yes. Great manager has to be seen I'm afraid

Point is: is there better younger players with better prospects than mc carville within the county that are worth a run?

I don't think that is the point, Micheal has qualities but he does not have intercounty midfielder qualities, few do. Mobility is the one underline quality needed for that position, he has not got "mobility" he can't move at any exceptional pace and cannot sustain it either.

Mickod is absolutely clueless, he just likes the sound of his own voice.

I presume that you were at the Match in Blaney to see the change in Michael's body shape and mobility?
Anyways Vinny is giving him a chance so I'll leave it to the Expert.

He was 3rd choice midfielder against Down, Wilson n Leonard picked up injuries on the night. So a panel player at best I'm afraid

I'm not saying he's the second coming of Darren Hughes, but I'm not coming online to run him down either - I'm saying give the lad a chance, Vinny is obviously seeing something in training that we don't get to see.

In the grander scheme of things I'm only trying to contribute a sense of positivity towards the new county setup this year, Unlike yourself who takes every opportunity to take shots at the new manager and players every opportunity you get like a petulant child who didn't get his way or, some jilted lover..

If I remember correctly McCarville played in the underdogs a few years ago. I think he came on as a sub. He was the only player who actually looked intercounty level in that group so I was surprised that he didn't play a huge amount since. I think he is definitely worth a try out.

David Garland too is worth a few games to see if he grab a place regardless of lack of physique, especially as there is still a player getting game time that should be well past their final chance by now.

It's also good to see O'Hanlon back too, and Lavelle who was a big championship miss last year.

No doubt Mc Carville is a decent player but is there players within the county who have stood out more for their club and are worth giving a try ahead of him ?

Hes not the only one, there are a few others who you'd wonder how they are still there or got a call up.
