Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "Why can't a team just be better than another team? They've won 6in a row for goodness sake, of course they're just the better side. Why does this crookedly insulting 'wanted it more' have to rear it's often ugly & inappropriate head? You've some 'experts' saying Clifford lost his 'A Game' because he tried too hard, wanted it too much etc. Then you're asking us to believe that Kerry didn't want it badly enough? I didn't see an issue with Kerry's hunger and desire to win the game. They lost to the better side. Kerry had the chances over both halves to have possibly won too, but that's into the realms of cuda wuda shuda. The better team won, no need to delve into any 'wanted it more' bs on this particular occasion imo."
Of course Kerry wanted it badly and this one hurt. I posted a couple of years ago to Dublin posters than we they lose they will take it badly and be more hungry afterwards. Some did nt understand saying we happy with our lot! It does nt work like that. Winners are greedy. The more you win the harder you take a loss and the hunger becomes insatiable again. Some here probably can't understand the Dubs being over the moon with this one. I certainly do! You could see this win meant more to them than many others. Fair play to them!

Replying To Onion_Sack:  "Jimbo! You're a Ballymun Kickhams man aren't you? What's the craic up there with the medal count at this stage with the current crop? Excluding the lads from the 80s, It's through the roof at this stage. (Does Philly play at any level at this stage?)

Jamsie 9
Deano 8
Philly 8
Big Smallie 7
Little Smallie 4?
Commerford 4/5?
Davy Byrne 1/2?

Any sneaky ones up there that went under the radar? Ted Furman?

The only other club side I can think of that came not even close would be Austin Stacks 70/80s? About half that haul!"
That's a great haul from Ballymun K alright. I don't have figures but I know Austin Stacks club have the most senior all ireland football medals.I would say Ballymun up there well on the leader board now also.

Replying To Onion_Sack:  "I would hope tradition was upheld jimbo and the losing manager paid a visit to the Victor's dressing room to congratulate them! Can anyone confirm it still happens?"
I don't know if it still happens since the fans are banned from the field but I did see Jack Ó Connor going around to different Dublin players shaking their hands and congratulating them. I actually saw him run after one player to tap him on the shoulder to shake his hand as the player was heading for the presentation.

Interesting end of season stats:-

Top Scorers overall were-
Shane McGuigan 2-52
D. Clifford 5.42

Top Scorers from play were-
Colm Basquel 5-17 (surprised at this tbh). I think this just might squeeze Collie into All Star contention.
D. Clifford 3-21
Con O'C. 2-23

I know the dust has hardly settled but how many Dublin players are in with a serious shout for an All Star.

Hopefully Cormac gets his first. Finished with 0-26

Mick Fitz - cert
Jamesie - cert
Fento - cert

Collie
Clucko in with a chance
I thought Lee Gannon had a super season also.
Mannion perhaps.?

They wont all get one but cant see anyone else from our team in contention.???

Buffon of Italy has retired aged 45. Plenty of time yet for Stephen Cluxton . He's only 41.

Agree with most. Mick Fitz James Mccarthy Brian Fenton more or less certs. Lee Gannon Cluxton have a great chance and one of Costello or Basquel will get one I'd say. I doubt Mannion as he did nt play enough but motm in a final might sway it.

Costello deserves one.
James with POTY will automatically get one I think
Fitzy deserves one.
Fento has been top 2 in midfield all year.
Clucko only conceded one (disputed) goal all year, his distribution was immaculate and he scored 2 pressure points in the AI final. Hard to see another keeper getting it.
Mannion had a good year for sure. Good candidate
Difficult to see where others will come from. Collie had 2 or 3 decent games. Lee has been good. Ciaran unusually quiet by his standards.
They may get 5 or 6.

I have a feeling Cormac will get one ahead on Collie tbh, even though Collie was the top scorer from play in the football championship.

I know very debatable but I hope Jamesie gets POTY

Jack gets an unfair press. He is what you see, He obviously takes defeat badly and while he doesn't hide it i can't honestly say I've ever seen him do or say anything that might be construed as disrespectful of the opposition. Even his commiseration with Kilkenny last year was interpreted by some who know neither as some sort of insult. You can't win!

I'm sure at the end of the day he hates being beaten by Dublin, just as Heffo hated being beaten by Kerry. It hurts, and it should, and it shows, I was listening to him doing an interview on RnaG a week or so before the match and he was clearly just as infused with the history and lore or the rivalry as anyone else. He's not going to be dancing around with a stupid smile on his face after losing one!

Agree Joxer it will be 5 or 6.

If I was a betting man I would be on:
Clucko
Mick Fitz
Jamesie
Fento
Cormac - (never got one before which I think could be a factor also tbh. They seem to balance things up a lot with their choices)

with Mannion and Collie just missing out.

The last few games he has been excellent - good shout there..
Missed the early part of the season travelling but when he got up to the pace of it again when he returned, he was really good for us.

Biggest complement i could pay him, is he pulled of a Cian O'Sullivan year pal.

Think he's like McCarthy around 2013, doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

One of our best and absolute quality.

Would like to see that from play stat if the "advanced mark" was taken out - that's not scoring from play in my book - even if its counted as.

From a Dublin pov, defo Con left 2 easy marks behind him on Sunday and should really have scored with that rocket that came back off the crossbar. He could have finished 2nd top scorer from play.

To finish 3rd in that regard, after what I considered just an ok year, based on his standards, was pleasantly surprising.

The after match review RTE podcast with Tomas O'Shea was very interesting.

He said Mick Fitz did an excellent job on DC.
Felt that Dublin fully deserved the win .

Also, said that this one will hurt the most - he met with some players/friends in Kerry on Monday i think it was, and the thing was, that they couldnt argue with the result and in his words couldnt put any blame on the ref either, which made it harder for them to take. Absolutely no excuses - the Dubs were better.

The impact of Jack, Mannion and Clucko this year was also highlighted.
Along with how Howard played until he got cramp.

The more you think about what Cluxton has done this year since he came back, and 100% kick out success rate in the final along with 2pts - an All Star is very possible for him.
