Replying To Lockjaw:  "Yeah it's a tricky time of year personnel wise. Older lads might be eased back in, some younger lads might be on scholarships with their universities and may not be available plus the club u21 championship could be a factor.

I don't think there's been as much uncertainty in over a decade. Taking the goalkeeping position to start with. Patton is out for a while injured I hear so who is his replacement? Lynch? I don't think he was involved in any football at all since his cameo in the qualifier against Armagh? I'm open to correction on this but I don't think he featured much for Gaoth Dobhair at all in either league or championship after that? So who is next in line?"
I know he came on full forward in a game against NC in the League and would have fought his shadow if given the chance that night.

Really hope John Ross Molloy gets good game time he meant to be an excellent player. As for the lineup that's pretty strong for a first game. Considering there is what 7-8 regulars/subs missing the lads getting a chance over the McKenna cup need to show up to have a chance

Is Pattons injury long term? If so would be a huge loss. One of the best in the business

Replying To Ronanthehammer:  "Thanks it has been so long since we have seen that swagger in the Mournes. The commitment of the Kilcoo boys as of yet has not been confirmed, but if they are to do anything it will be needed. Not just in spirit but in talent. There are at least 5 players from them that would improve the team immensely. There also seems to be a big divide in the main senior teams in Down which I don't know if Laverty can bridge."
Yes the commitment of some of the Kilcoo players has been confirmed, 4 played the other night vMonaghan and i saw 3 others in the stand who are to join the squad this week , I also thing your making mountains out of molehills reguarding rivalery , thats the same in every county, and Laverty has that sorted long ago, but without getting carried away too much getting out of DIV 3 has to be our goal, after that we ll worry about Donegal in C ship

Too early to be talking about championship. We need to be getting at least 3 new lads through but it's not going to be easy. County football is a major step up from being at the game yesterday it would be hard to judge. Caolan Mc colgan is definitely one who could step up but come championship they'll be very few changes to what we had last year. I know from the Ulster final team alone we'll probably be losing.3 maybe 4 of the starting team but I guarantee you they will be replaced by lads who were on the squad last year. We need Oisin gallen fit he would be a plus. Paddy Mc brearty looked sharp but we need new coming through . Lynch done ok in goals . We need to gave paddy carr the respect he deserves its only early days. Good to be back

Caolán McGolgan for me was the bright light from yesterday. He and Jamie Grant definitely have a future at this level.

It would be very hard to judge any of the other debutante on yesterday. There was that many substitutions from both sides that there was absolutely no flow to the game.

Unfortunately for many of those making their bows, I thought they appeared a bit light for senior intercounty football.

Mind you, some of our experienced performers didn't perform too well either. Brendan McCole was taken to the cleaners by a physically dominant Pat Havern. Caolán Ward didn't impose himself on the game in what i thought was an opportunityfor him at Centre Back.. Paddy McBrearty done well enough, but I don't think he will inherit the No 14 on a full time basis.

I'd say Paddy Carr and his team would learn more by being in Convoy on Wednesday evening.

You're right there's no while sense in looking into results at this stage. The players and management are still getting to know each other and it's ultimately more about getting lads out on the field. For instance I don't think Kerry will lose sleep over Cork putting 5 goals in their net. We'll get a better sense of where we're at by the end of the league

It's a bit early to be writing guys off and saying they're not at the required level after a few weeks back training and playing in a team with so many debutants.

Another experimental team named for tomorrow night.

Good to see more emerging young players getting a chance to impress.

One benefit of a completely new man coming in is that he has no loyalties and is willing to give everyone a fair chance.

I think that's what the Mc kenna cup is for giving young lads a chance.. but once league starts it'll be back to the regulars unless some young lad puts up his hand in the next few weeks. I'm hoping for at least 3 or 4 to come through but will it happen that's the question.

It's quite refreshing to see the new mgr a bit more open to the local media and general public.

The naming of teams early before games and hopefully sticking to it is another positive move.

At least he has recognised there is a gap between the county set up and the good people of donegal.

The cloak and dagger and hush hush stuff under previous regime didn't do any favours to unite/connect us all.

Hope this continues deep into the season.

Wee question lad what is the story with a few eunans lads not being available. A man like you in the know might keep the good folk like our selves informed..

I seen Paddy Carrs interview with Donegal Daily, he seems a very open likeable fella and I have a notion he is going to try and get us playing more attacking football,
I wish him all the best it will take time to find the players he wants etc so I'm not expecting anything massive in 2023 but you never know, big game coming up against Kerry soon.
Glad to see he is using the McKenna Cup as it should be used to blood new players, can't judge these lads on one performance either.

Yeah it's not the time of year to be making sweeping statements about which players will cut the mustard or not.
I was just looking at the fixtures there for the league. It's going to be very tough. Obviously we'd all like for Donegal to remain a Division One team. But I'm just wondering if some of you would sacrifice Division One status if it meant we blooded 4 or 5 newcomers.

Are we learning an awful lot by playing our established players in every game with a view to just surviving in Division One? We're never likely to win the League anway. With the great man Murphy stepping away, might we be better off for a year in Division 2 to rebuild under the radar? I know that the League feeds into the Championship now and we'd need to be careful but.

It's funny but now that Michael is gone this really seems like the start of a new era for us, many of us myself included were always hoping Jim would come back to manage us again but that ship has sailed and we are into new waters now,
Really hoping Paddy Carr does well and the county gets fully behind him and his team.
