Replying To avonali:  "Question for Tyrone fans. Is it not the case that the whole squad would have been vaccinated by now? If so, this basically means that all sporting fixtures going forward are apt to be postponed or cancelled. This is very worrying for all of us.
Is this how it's going to be for the foreseeable??? Half empty stadia, squads having to pull out of matches, our sports calendars decimated etc etc.??? That's an appalling prospect.
The vaccine has not been the silver bullet we all thought it would be."
I heard from a friend in Fermanagh that the uptake in vaccines among young people is much slower up north than down south but I've no info on Tyrone players. Maybe some Tyrone posters might know a little more. Anyway hopefully all will be OK.

Don't know full story but , is it the rule that if your pinged by the app that you've been in contact with someone with Covid, you have to isolate no matter what. I don't know. There's that many new rules who knows.

Question for ye, if the game is postponed for Tyrone which I think it should to be fair, then what happens if the Kerry panel gets Covid a few days before the semifinal does the game get postponed again?

The final would go into September...the third Sunday. Sure, Kerry would love that. It's a date that is etched deeply into their pysche.

I don't know. The rules might be different up North. I genuinely don't know Avon.

Again I don't know Saynoyhing. I was a close contact last February. I got a phone call to isolate for 14 days I think. Anyway got a phone call after 3 days saying I was good to go again as it was a false result. Not sure of the proper protocol.

Little enough football to watch and was looking forward to this. Hope it can be sorted. Think I can mind Tyrone losing out on a semi final of league the time of the mad cow stuff.

What does it matter if they are vaccinated or not? The vaccine doesn't stop one contracting the virus. It weakens the symptoms as far as I'm aware.

In fairness every team should get the same treatment , so yes, need to do whatever it takes. Last years All-Ireland was at Christmas time. Some people mightn't like it but teams don't want a walkover either.

Unfortunate that Tyrone have been hit with a Covid outbreak. Under no circumstances should they be castigated or blamed in any way. This virus, particularly the current virulent strain, is turning up everywhere. We should all get behind Tyrone and give them as much support and empathy that we can.

Yes I agree with you 100% saynothing but this is the gaa we're talking about and remember what they did to Sligo last year in the Connacht championship, they weren't very accommodating at that time.

There is no "silver bullet."

It is a relatively harmless virus that has become less virulent and is mostly likely going to be endemic, like the flu which has also survived vaccines and regularly mutates to become briefly more virulent.

We are going to have to live with it. Like the flu it overwhelmingly affects the very elderly and has minimal impact on anyone under the age of 60. I'm not a kick in the arse away from 60 myself so I'm not dismissing us, but elderly people get sick. Fact of life. Used to be flu, now it's Covid.

It is quite frankly absurd that entire societies be placed in what you are probably right about being another of a potentially unending series of restrictions.

Vast majority of sports people across the globe have only been tested positive as a consequence of contact tracing. In other words, they don't even know they have it! As anyone who has played even moderate club in past 20 years knows, there is no way anyone could train the way players do now with even a mild flu.

Getting to be farcical.

Walkover would be atrocious, if kerry were to win the all Ireland it would leave an asterisk beside their achievement too ,, just postpone it for a week or two

It won't be a Kerry decision Galway9801, it's got nothing to do with us except we're the team down to play Tyrone.

Does the fact that Sligo weren't given the opportunity to play ye in the Connacht semifinal due to Covid put Mayos Connacht championship win asterisk and also dublins allireland win aterisk?

Saying all that I do hope the gaa do the right thing here and give Tyrone the time they need unlike what they did to Sligo last year.

Many recent studies show that because vaccinated people develop a weaker infection they are much less likely to pass on the virus.
It certainly does matter whether they are vaccinated or not. Is this not why those wishing to dine inside an establishment must furnish evidence of vaccination ??
My point is that if a squad of players were vaccinated then would be much less chance of the virus spreading.

From what I can see Barney, you're right Covid is here to stay. But mass vaccination reduces its transmissibility and consequently slows down the rate of mutation of the which is what they are so worried about. The thing is: will we ever see a fully packed Croke Park in the next few years??
Long Covid with young people is a real problem too.
I think the GAA need to accommodate Tyrone properly and postpone the fixture.

Listen that's no point speculating where county teams are fully vaccinated or not or turn this into a COVID debate.

Fact is COVID has spread amongst the Tyrone panel and they are at a clear disadvantage though no fault of their own. As KingdomBoy and others have said are-fixture, if possible, should be offered if Tyrone are missing a bunch of players.

I would nt like to get a walkover. Louth won all ireland in 1910 v Kerry by walkover. Kerry refused to player over some railway dispute
