Kerry Vs Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

thought I might start this thread. surprised to see one wasnt here already.

What's the thoughts guys, media and general opinion is that Tyrone will frustrate Kerry and then lose by 3-5 points?

After the league game I thought well Tyrone learnt plenty from that game, but what did Kerry learn. Tyrone have changed how they play defensively completely since that game and ditched the man to man 6 on 6 . I feel like Kerry are still playing the same way went man to man marking and I don't think the same tactic they employed in Killarney will provide the same 6 goals.. However they are quite capable of 17+ points in Croke Park and have a reliable free kick taker (Something Tyrone still don't have over 30 metres)

Anyway, despite that feel confident enough about the game, everyone is writing Tyrone off and its exactly what they want. The last championship meeting between them 2019 semi was a game Tyrone should have won and both teams have added good players since.

Head and Heart says Tyrone by 2

As much as I admire your optimism I really don't share it. Tyrone defo have improved and they impressed in Ulster. However, the gap between Tyrone and the other 3 teams in semis is quite substantial! I totally agree with you in freetaking - it astounds me that inter county players cant put the ball over the bar from 40 metres - our minor team can easily despatch those! Why can't someone kick them from the ground? Also, think that Tyrone team have a few passengers and not enough elite forwards - think this will end up a high scoring match and if that's the case only one winner - Kerrry!

Heart says Tyrone. Head says Kerry. But I dont think there will be much in it if both teams play their best championship games. And if 1 or other is a little off their usual pace then they will lose. Hope I'm wrong but Kerry to win by 2. And 3 or less goals in the game.

The Gap is quite substantial. I am just wondering what the basis is for that argument? Tyrone played 2 div 1 sides and the outgoing Ulster Champions in Ulster. Surely that's a higher standard than what the other 3 have played so far in the championship..

Also can you name the passengers? they don't play a front scoring 6 , but neither do anyone these days. They have a mobile 8 around midfield that are all comfortable on the ball and can take a score when needed (Harte/Sludden/McGeary/McCann/Meyler).

Your view though, I accept, is not isolated, but in fairness in relation to another thread on here, "No-one likes us but we don't care"

There's a gap there but only between the top 2. Why people keep blowing up Mayo I never know. Not enough elite forwards, to me that's were their strength lies. If Donnelly, Harte,Sludden have good games they won't be far away.

Tyrone have really impressed me this year and I think it was very important for the new management team to achieve a few milestone goals in their first year.

Staying in division 1 and winning a first Ulster title in 4 years was a great start. Also the fact that we beat last years Ulster champions, Donegal and Monaghan was a bonus. Brian and Fergal should be given at least 3-4 years to really develop this side.

In saying that, I don't think we are currently at the same level as Kerry who seem to have improved significantly over the past 2 years.

I hope this is a competitive game and I think we will stay with Kerry for 50-60min but unfortunately it looks like a 4-5 point defeat.

Wally Kerry will give up goal chances we always do its wether or not yer lads will take em is the thing.

I don't think we're that much ahead of ye or if we are really ahead of ye but we'll find out in 10 days time I suppose.

That league game between the 2 teams meant nothing as Tyrone were trying out a few different things and like conman says Tyrone learnt more than we did.

Bar Cavan ye have played all div1 teams whereas we have played nó div 1 team since the league.

I think this game is 50/50.

Can't see Kerry beaten here. A comfortable win.

Could get messy for Tyrone if Kerry are in the mood.

Would say kerry will win with 4-6 points to spare. Under new management tyrone have done very well but they are behind kerry.

I had to laugh at eamonn saying that he's 90% sure that on the day of the kerry league game, tyrone had done a heavy gym session then were spotted doing runs in a national park all before the league game. I know he's trying to down play kerry chances but come on, a full gym session, laps and a 70 min league game would be more than enough for a full time professional never mind an amateur sport. Sure I think tyrone only travelled down on the morning of that game. They done well to fit all that in one day lol.

When was the last time Tyrone beat one of the big teams outside of Ulster in knock out championship football? I think that sums up the task ahead of them, I read a lot about the change in management insofar as many felt a new management was all that was required to start genuinely competing and winning All Ireland's again; it is one interesting aspect of this game to see how they do.

Tyrone will bring relentness workrate, conditioning and will do all they can to make Kerry's afternoon very uncomfortable, I recall Tyrone's performance in the U21 All Ireland Final under the same management team and I'd expect that same mindset in this semi final which will make it difficult for Kerry.

Whilst Tyrone rightfully believe they were unlucky not to beat Kerry in the 2019 semi final and have dangerous forward's, this is two years on, this Kerry set up have been building and are a different opposition. Cork got at them last season so it is possible especially with the tactics I expect Tyrone to use, but even with those tactics this is a Kerry team about to take over Dublin and I expect a big statement and comfortable win here.

Kerry by 8 plus

Mayo are in our 10th semi final in 11 years. Consistently is why we're are at the business end most year. Tyrone have impressed me though. Your argument on forwards may be correct....if we had Cillian fit I would give us a great chance but I just don't see where the bulk of our scores are going to come from v Dublin.

For me it's a Dublin v Kerry final sadly...hopefully we might get a Mayo v Tyrone final in the next 2-3 years.

The unknown factor is whether Kerry will get the jibbers when they see the Red Hand in a big game again? I know they've beaten them well last couple of times, but more pressure on Kerry this year, and Dooher and Logan be the boys to know where to get at them

Tyrone, along with current Dubs have joined Down of the 60s as the three sides that have really gotten the psychological upper hand on Kerry.

Kerry might have the wherewithal to make that count for little this time, but if Tyrone can keep it close, the old demons might start to nag away!

It's about 65-35 in favor of Kerry. Of course the Kerry posters will try to big up Tyrone like they always do, and have done already this year with Cork, Clare and even poor Tipperary. But nobody in this day and age is buying their ould guff. That might have worked back in the Micko era, but that is not how things work in the present day. They're as see through as Macy's window.

Tyrone did a right good job on the Monaghan kick out particularly in the first half. The Monaghan kick out is strong and it doesn't look to be an area of strength for Kerry so Tyrone are bound to target it very hard. Morgan covering the space on the 45 was very clever.

Kerry are likely to push up hard on the Tyrone kick out as well though not sure their keeper will do a full Morgan on it.

I think Kerry keep their forward press going and put pressure on Tyrone all over the field. They are committed to playing to their offensive strength and hope they don't lose the bottle to keep doing so.

I suspect Tyrone won't be wanting Maurice Deegan as ref. He did them very few favours in the 2019 semi. The covid challenge though will probably still affect Tyrone over the next few weeks and they won't be ideal

Overall Kerry have better players than Tyrone, are playing very confidently and should win handy. If they don't win the kingdom will be up in arms.
