How ridiculous is it that Kerry will play in Leinster if they are promoted? An absolute joke if you ask me

It is.

Listening to jamesie ó connor on the matt Cooper show yesterday evening on the way home from work. They spoke about the upcoming hurling games on this weekend . They picked winners in kilkenny, Limerick and Clare to beat Dublin, tipperary and wexford. It was amazing that they spoke about the next round of qualfierers and that Waterford would be lying in wait for some of the losers. So they never mentioned Waterford v Laois it wasn't worth a mention basically Laois dont exist and it's a forgone conclusion. OK it probably is but very insulting not to even warrant a mention even in passing.

Agree. And they again said Wexford were responsible for identifying close contacts from the league match which again is totally wrong. The hse did that.

It will make me very happy if both Wexford and Laois win.

Totally disagree. It is not at all ridiculous. Why put them in Munster when they would get hammered by every other team in it? It would do nothing for the development of the game in Kerry and would probably set It back years. In Leinster they would play a couple of teams that would be close to their level ie Laois, Antrim and even if they were to play one of the "big" teams, at least they wouldn't be weighed down by tradition and be already beaten before they take the field, they'd be able to give it their best shot against a team outside their region.

People shouldn't get so hung up on geography. The term "Leinster hurling championship" is achronistic in geographical terms but the needs of the game are more important than any geography. The Tour de France started in Ireland one year and stages of it have gone through Spain, Belgium, Germany etc. Derry City play in the League of Ireland. And achronistic terms are not just a GAA thing... rugby has it's "Triple Crown" even though 3/4 of this island is not part of the United Kingdom.

It is, and ironic that it will be the Westies again who lose out to this committee nonsense.

Dublin and Westmeath were on similar level in 2005. We won 2nd division and were promoted, they beat us in championship.

Then, because of the changes to league and championship, Westmeath were effectively denied promotion or the possibility of being promoted for the next few years.

And to put the tin hat on it, they brought Antrim in to replace them!

No harm to Kerry whose hurlers I have great respect for but would really like to Westies win today.

That's all fine and well but Kerry would be depriving a Leinster team of competing in their own provincial championship ie Westmeath who they play today in the final and a team on a similar level to them. Don't forget they were beaten last weekend by Meath as well

Don't think I've seen a poorer performance from a Wexford team and only 20 minutes gone. Ok, got the goal but all over the shop and Clare destroying them.

Youre back to geography again. If you want to have your "pure" Leinster championship then Galway and Antrim need to be dropped from it as well cos they are keeping out Westmeath/ Offaly/ Carlow as much as Kerry would. Then you can go back to your lopsided but pure Leinster championship with Kilkenny dominating and Wexford and sometimes Dublin playing them in the final. Munster would continue with its competitive round robin but a round robin in Leinster would be such a yawn as the end result would be very predictable.
The best way of getting your "pure" Leinster championship back is to break the link between provincial championships and the Liam McCarthy Cup. Run the provincial championships as separate competitions and have an open draw for the McCarthy Cup. You would probably get 100% support from Galway for that but I don't think the Munster counties would go for it. In the meantime, in the imperfect reality that we have, the only place for Kerry to be is in the Leinster championship if they win today.

Margin down to 5 at the break. Good second quarter by Wexford.

Yes, that's a better looking score line alright at half time.
Really not sure though how they were that slack in first 20.
You couldn't even say they were pacing themselves because they had no game plan at all and don't think Clare are world beaters either.

Probably the end of Davy with wexford, tense at the end but clare lead from start to finish, wexford clawed an 11 point point defecit back to 3 at one stage but the better team won,

Again all fine but we could have a team from all the provinces in Leinster next year. Is that satisfactory to you? We all know there'll be no open draw anytime soon

Just out of the laois v Waterford game and to be honest Laois left this game behind them. I know Bennett missed a few long range frees late on but Laois were very wasteful in the middle period of the first half and this is where the game was lost. They pulled back an 8 point deficit at half time to lead by one late in the game but a terrible slip let Waterford in for a soft goal. Make no mistake this was a serious display by Laois its a pity we didn't have the power on the bench Waterford did on such a warm day. Proud of the lads and its a testament to the senior players in the team to tell the manager before the antrim game that they were very unhappy with the tactics and that they wanted to play a different game and man up and boy look at the difference. They players are not far away let's hope they can build on this and the county board step into line and back the team. Great effort Laois

Hard luck to Laois today, they put in a huge performance, and just came up short. You have a lot of good players Richard K. Ignore Jamesie O' Connor's arrogant dismissal of your lads yesterday.
