Look at Kilkenny, tradition, structures and personnel in place and the finance and county board with cop on. Small population, a lot of success.
That's why so many counties go nowhere and likely never will.
Look at Cork also, plenty of resources but haven't won an All Ireland for 16 year."
Kilkenny concentrate on hurling. They don't give a toss about football. I know here in Wexford the hurlers are dual players for their clubs

As a football follower primarily, I am just wondering what are the hurling fans thoughts on the Carey "tackle" on Boland. One report describes it a "helmet to helmet" tackle, more politically correct than calling it a head-butt I suppose? Is this another aspect of hurling that needs to be ignored to protect the manliness of the game. Not a word about it in Rte's post match analysis.

Sure the GAA can't help, its just down to the fact of the draw of the big ball. Imagine Kilkenny were deprived the upcoming talents of Adrian Mullen and Eoin Cody if they decieded to concentrate on football.

If he did it on purpose he s a bit crazy cos he could have damaged himself too. However it was very dangerous play in my book and a straight red card.

What a difference a day makes. Dublin had a bad day yesterday against a very good Kilkenny team. Are we forgetting Dublin had a deserved win over Galway (the team that were tipped to overthrow Limerick). Dublin are still in the championship.

Was thinking the same myself, it looked intentional to me dont think it could be overlooked as accidental. But there you go.

Congratulations to Westmeath yesterday on their deserved Joe McDonagh win.

One of the commentators said Carey thought the Dublin player was going duck. It was accidental. Think about it, why would any player want to headbutt another deliberately when they are both wearing helmets. The perpetrator is just as likely to get hurt.

More concerning was the two shoulders to head tackles by Dublin players within minutes of the start of the second half, which the ref didn't even give a free for. They may have been accidental, but there should still be at least have a free awarded. Dublin seemed to be really psyched up at the start of the second half and were really going in hard on every tackle, the second shoulder to head tackle was what led to the little melee.

It was discussed at length on this forum a month or so ago, but I think the GAA needs to look at the shoulder charge tackle before someone gets seriously hurt. The game is a lot faster nowadays, and a mistimed or directed shoulder can cause serious injury.

No one can do anything about that in fairness. Great win for Westmeath yesterday, really entertaining game.

Let alone to Austin Gleeson. He probable will be on goal next time. Shane Bennett is and was always a goal scorer. This nonsense that in todays game players can play anywhere. Maybe one in a hundred can. Put Gleeson full forward with Hutchison and Shane Bennett on each side of him. You can vary the game from low into the corners to Gleeson fielding it. You still have Patrick Curran and Stephen Bennett. They seemed to have opted for more long high ball yesterday. Limerick, Tipp, Kilkenny would mop these up with the players they have. Maybe Liam is trying to get them going or back to where they were last year but time is running out.
When you see how shaky the backs are at times it is hard to believe two time all star Noel Connors would not be a huge improvement.

Personally I have no idea what Carey thought and I doubt your commentator does either, it looked an intentional action and dangerous. Sure any player can take a swing if "I thought he was going to duck" is a defence. "I hit him on the head because he didn't duck" bizarre.

I thought Kilkenny were average yesterday, still reliant on TJ Reid. Dublin matched them in first period, but had too many wides. Not many clear goal chances in the game, apart from iffy penalty.

The Connors situation is interesting, Cahill didn't even give him a chance, just cut him loose. You'd imagine he would add something to that defense. His lack of pace would be a worry though.

That's what I'm saying Cockney. He would be crazy if he did it on purpose. However it was dangerous so a red for me. Yes the ref let other vad challenges go unpunished too.

The 2 big calls went Limericks way. Gillane should have seen red for striking and Seamus Kennedy should have seen red for his high tackle on Padraig Maher. Very poor by referee and his officials. Kennedys tackle was the worse of the 2.
