Laois were savage. Would be some yawn fest if we get back to the top 4 every year dominating.

That has to be the poorest Dublin performance in years. Was at the Leinster semis and the Dublin v Galway match was levels below the Wex v Kk. You just have to wonder where Wexford are at!

The most interesting thing in that 2nd half were the Seagulls flying around and round. Taking over the TV screen. Kilkenny were efficient. Dublin are still 1 or 2 players short and really they need a goal threat. Crazy to see James Owens rehabilitation starting already.. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 17/07/2021 21:07:57 2360842 Link 0 |
I'll tell you where Wexford are at. Out of the 2021 championship.

The bottom line is that Kilkenny have the best Hurlers in the county playing for them. Dublin have some of the best Hurlers playing for the footballers. How can you compete with that?

Kilkenny seemed to be miles ahead of them fitness wise too, no excuse for that.

Population data for counties in the Republic of Ireland is based on preliminary data from census of 2016. Dublin Population: 1,345,402 Kilkenny Population: 99,232 Yeah, how can Dublin compete with that? Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2446 - 17/07/2021 23:34:44 2360890 Link 1 |
Even with the "pandemic" losses, we were never at the races. Jig was up long before that fker decided on another make it up as you go along sin bin. We missed one, they got one. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 2519 - 17/07/2021 23:52:18 2360894 Link 0 |
You compete by applying the Brian Cody approach. Never has he made excuses when fielding a team that could have been stronger. You have who you have. That's your team. Adversity hit all sides. You can navigate or give in..

Laois got the better scores on the day and delighted how they played. Not taking any thing away from them but Waterford were terrible. We are going no where all of a sudden. Completely way off last year. I am not criticizing Liam but players don't have a clue where they are playing. What can he do now ? Who to start the next day ? Where will to play them ? Is Shane Bennett a back or a forward and the same for Kevin Moran. Shaun O Brien is a good ball stopper but kept hitting out the ball to a Laois player. Hutchison would want ladder to get to some of the balls that were rained down on him.

How are Roscommon doing in the hurling?

Hopelessly nonsensical solution. Just telling counties to get on with it essentially. That's been done by the GAA for decades rather than try to make any attempt to help them. Keep up the good work there lad. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 18/07/2021 07:55:17 2360938 Link 0 |
Same as Wexford in the football.

And what percentage of Dublin are exposed to Hurling let alone play it?

I'll never understand how a guy can be shunted up and down from wing back to wing forward and be expected to settle into a position. After all Moran's years of service and they still don't know his best position? Same as bennet

You are forgetting though that it's Dublin we are talking about here, they shouldn't need help with all their funding, resources, huge population, facilities. they couldn't replace the players they were missing yesterday and when o donnell went off it was essentially curtains for them. They don't seem to have really a trusted freetaker either, westmeath as an example had two trusted free takers yesterday starting on the team and another came on late in the game. Dublin are just not showing dividends for the huge funding they get, they don't need help

Is the modern game not more about athletes as oppose hurlers and footballers? Any time I see either a game of hurling or football which is becoming less and less, it is hard to tell who is suppose to be playing where. Between dummy teams, switches and tactics, maybe even the players are confused. I watched the wexford-Clare match yesterday and wexford lost the game in the first 15 minutes when they only scored 1 point but they had no forwards near the clare goals; it was bonkers to see. Managers and coaches plus tactics are destroying the games of hurling and football.

I think you're assuming finance is the answer to all problems. It helps undoubtedly but will not make you winners if you don't have everything else right. Look at Kilkenny, tradition, structures and personnel in place and the finance and county board with cop on. Small population, a lot of success. That's why so many counties go nowhere and likely never will. Look at Cork also, plenty of resources but haven't won an All Ireland for 16 year. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 18/07/2021 10:49:35 2360981 Link 0 |
I was replying to this: Replying To Bon: "The bottom line is that Kilkenny have the best Hurlers in the county playing for them. Dublin have some of the best Hurlers playing for the footballers. How can you compete with that?" I'm not sure how the GAA can help this scenario? Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1415 - 18/07/2021 10:53:33 2360982 Link 1 |
