Replying To Fionn: "Just watching Scannal on RTE2 all about the Louth v Meath Leinster Final in 2010. Seeing it all again - it was mental.
Wonder will meath break the Louth curse next Sat night.?" Fionn don't mention the war.

Replying To royaldunne: "Ahh I love the auld O Byrne cup games. Tbh I think I've said this before, I travel to almost every game. I've missed a few since the youngest arrived (I've layed our the reasons before so not getting into it again) but I can't stay away so last year playing cork in pairc ui rinn I left home at 1ish with one of my daughters, got bite to eat, and drove home afterwards arriving at 1 ish in the morning. I don't drink, and gave up the fags 4 years ago. I have one vice left football, in particular Meath football, I go to as many matches as possible, be they minor u20 or senior in obc league and championship. That's why this year is so hard personally having to watch it on tv. But it's better than nothing and it will leave the winter that bit shorter. And should we fail to win on Sunday my thoughts will automatically turn to the first round of obc. It's what I live for after my family" Fair play royaldunne, you be rewarded next Saturday for your support when meath finally beat dublin after ten long years and become the 2020 leinster football champions, will menton and keogan be the first ever joint captains to lift the Delaney cup.

Replying To CiarraiMick: "Let's talk straight. It's great to see Meath improving but still a bit to go against a team like Dublin. Meath are scoring goals yes but scoring them against Kildare and Wicklow a lot different than Dublin. Kerry played against a better Kildare team in 2015 and scored 7 goals. How many did we score against Dubs in final? Answer zero. Also I know I'm splitting hairs but Kildare outscored Meath today but as they say goals win games. I'd love to see Meath back at the top table and secretly Dublin prob do too but I think the Leinster final is a foregone conclusion I'm afraid. The only team so far I have seen that might be able for Dublin are Donegal." Think Meath could well do a Cork type game plan Mick, try to turn this into a battle, a game of percentages, force a bit of luck and take the game into the trenches.
They tried a mass defensive, holding possession strategy last year and it worked but never looked like winning or scoring enough to win it.
They went more toe to toe in the league and did well, but we always had our noses out in front. Think it will be a grind either way.
Meath will be well prepared and competitive, big hits will go in, that's fine we're an experienced and savy bunch and can mix it, win our battles and once done show our quality.
Who knows on any given day, awful conditions, a red card, a bad injury, anything can happen, discipline is key.
I know we racked up a score today, but what pleased me most was the defending front to back, tenacious and hungry in everything from first minute to last, it's that quality that wins you all Ireland's and the hunger was there today.
We have a bit of history to play for next week, I think if we win we go 40 championship games unbeaten (I think), do 10 in a row Leinster Titles and be the first county to do a provincial 10 in a row.
We will be roaring hot favourites next week, rightly so, but we will be cautious, prepare well, we won't fear Meath but we will respect them.

All joking aside, I expect Meath to get closer to us than in recent times, but we'd have to play very poorly to lose this. Whoever wins, Donegal look shit hot and I'd genuinely fear them, not so much Cavan.

Meath need to be racking up at least 20 points to have any chance in this match, so 3/4 goals needed. Dublin will certainly hit it.

Replying To Ollie2: "Htaem I had a disagreement with Young Gael over Bobby Sands and even though he did not agree with me he apologized to me for having a row with me. To me that says something about someone. He did not have to say sorry and fair play to him he did. As the great Royaldunne would say opinions are like farts. Everyone's stinks apart from your own. Anyway congrats to Meath on a great win considering they were six points down at half time. Good luck against the Dubs next Saturday evening." How are you keeping anway Ollie, hope all is well?
He's not a bad lad young_gael, clearly passionate about his football and we need plenty of that in Meath, especially from the younger generation.
Thanks for the well wishes, we'll certainly need plenty of it on the day.

Hon the royal" You're a Div 2 county about to suffer a 15 point plus defeat next Saturday. We'd all like to see a strong Meath like a strong Cork, Galway and more Ulster counties for the good of football. Meath are in the top 12 but sadly a long way from being a "force". There is no evidence Meath will close the gap on the top 3 or 4 anytime soon and will more likely sit around 6th to 12th in the country but I do like the positive narrative from Meath people.

I think to beat Dublin, we need to be ferocious in defense for the whole game, win most of our own kickouts and pressure Dublin's (this has been a real area of weakness for us), drastically improve our supply into the forwards, move the ball much quicker and take plenty of chances up front.
.....also a magic monkey paw which grants wishes wouldn't go astray!

They had success frustrating Dublin in last year's final but the trade off was that they got juiced and weren't much use up front
They'll try and turn us over and counter
Dubs have to be wary not to be running into swarm tackles and just do the right things that they know well. Hold the ball when necessary etc
They want turn over ball and run at Dublin with pace, negate that as much as possible and they won't score enough
It'll be a nip tuck first half but Dublins fitness levels look really good at present. Hard tackling and playing with purpose right up to the final whistle in both games so far while being able to inject quality from the bench
Dublin aren't functioning 100% up front. Con has been quite on the board but doing an awful lot of work. Hopefully he will click again, Kilkenny is doing the heavy scoring. Mannion just coming back in is a big boost.
Think we're missing an out and out goal finisher at present, pity regarding Basquel. I really think he's it.

Replying To Ollie2: "Fionn don't mention the war." Sorry, Ollie...
The ref was so bloody wrong that day.... Didnt even ask the umpires for their view - just told him to raise the green flag... 10yrs on and the hurt is still there for Louth fans and players. Definitely not a Leinster title I would still be going on about and celebrating, if I was a Meath fan... ;o)
It was the aftermath of this game, I think, that was the end of fans allowed onto the pitch to celebrate a victory. I am sure to be corrected if I am wrong on that.

Thanks all for the well wishes and again its not my intention to row with anyone or drag down discussions. I have no hard feelings for anyone here and respect for all. We are all the GAA family and everyone's opinion is important. Ill do better in the future lads.
Back to the football; Im proud of this Meath team. Andy Mc has done a good job in developing this squad of players over the last few years. There are easily 25/30 lads now who can be relied upon to slot into a game day team and do a job, and these guys are talented all-rounders, some still teenagers. We are now in a position to be finishing games with a stronger team than we are starting them with and thats no mean feat.
I thought the game yesterday was a funny old game tbh. Dead atmosphere. Very strange. I rewatched parts of it this morning and I have to be honest I thought Kildare were very off; they were directly at fault for all of the goals. They kicked too many wides. They looked unfit and turgid in my eyes, and as the game went on they started slowing up and losing all the breaks, maybe it was due to the speed of Meath's first 2 goals (within 5 minutes of the start of the 2nd half) that had them demoralised, they were playing in very strange positions. They were very bad at trying to work up goal chances. I just felt like they were poor and I think theyre better than a 5 goal hiding from Meath, add in the fact that JOC is their manager and its very surprising they didnt do more.
Positives for Meath; goals galore. Meath are playing very direct football and theyre clearly targeting goal opportunities. The strength of the bench. Fitness; they were solidly the fitter team yesterday and were much sharper to breaks and much quicker at reacting to the game in front of them. The experience of division one caused this. Confidence; theyll be very satisifed with the manner of the win. Kildare are a valued opposition in Meath and theyre a tough nut to crack on the day as spirited local rivals. Putting 5 goals on them will greatly inspire the team and county, even if it was a relatively poor game, and this Meath team is solidly the best performing Meath team in at least 10 years, again, even if they are still a team on the periphery of the top 4 or 8.
Now for the Leinster final. If I were McEntee id try to empower the players to see this game as a free for all. Its a one-off match now. Getting to the Leinster final was the aim, and they've done it. They havent shot out the lights but 12 goals in two games is eyebrow raising in any code. This game should be an opportunity to throw off any shackles they may have and just go out and seize the day. The Dubs are the one with something to lose here. Theyre expected to win this game with an arm behind their backs and saunter into the all Ireland series, much like Kerry were. Like Cork, if Meath can channel their inner strength and motivation in the right way, then who knows? Theyll be watching footage of Matt Kerrigan, David Beggy and Mick Lyons and Trevor Giles for the week. 87,88,91,96,01, hell maybe even 2010 will come into the conversation and the need to be better than that day. Theyll be hungry to atone for 2019 as well. They'll be hearing about the progress of Graham and theyll be slowly building up emotional energy that the dubs simply wont be. If Meath are to have a prayer, theyll need magic. Maybe im lost in the madness of covid, but what a thought.

Still reckon Dessie is not showing his hand yet though. As you say, Paul and Cormac got game time and I think Con is being told to do a certain job for the moment. That will change.
Best thing for us is that we only played meath a few weeks ago and know what to expect and the fact they are nearly scoring more goals than points is something that hasnt gone un-noticed either. I actually think MDMA could get game time on Sat along with a couple of others, because at this stage of this season they need it.

I think we saw the best of Con in his natural position last year, he's no doubt putting in a big shift at the moment but he's simply not in position to be having the impact he had last year
He was unreal as a primary target man, a beast. listen he's not played much ball at all this year
Hopefully we might see something more alright
But yeah I do find someone with Basquels level of talent not even involved a bit frustrating, sure what do I know..
But watching Dublin butchering goal chances like they did last night is becoming common now
