The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches

Replying To Trump2020:  "Amen. Big credit due to the people that are doing the right thing and taking precautions enabling these great matches to go on. Though I am mostly a Hurling fan how could you not be excited for Tipp and Cavan in FOOTBALL which might never have been allowed to happen due to the virus."
But how did it help Tipp and Cavan get there? Time of year but you can have winter days during the summer and both finals were played on dry days against two teams that were hot favorites to win. Is it the lack of a crowd and therefore the lack of pressure on the players which you could say may have the opposite effect on the outsiders and top dogs. In Hurling Waterford are in the Final a situation even the most optimistic Waterford supporter couldn't have seen happening based on last year. Perhaps some players teams thrive without the pressure of the public and some feed off it. It could also be that hunger no matter what year it is counts for a lot.

No it didn't help them get there, their hard work did but I was saying if the season didn't happen then the great Tipp/Cavan victories wouldn't have happened either.

Our all knowing Minister for health just now on radio 1 saying nephet, the public health organisation that worries if we're not worried, is now worried that if Tipp, Cavan or Mayo win Sam, the celebrations will lead to a new early lockdown, they may instruct the GAA to declare Dublin champions!

Does Donnelly even understand the GAA? The GAA aren't responsible for what people do outside their grounds.

The grounds are empty, the cups are taken back after the presentation and there will be no home comings.

That said if for example you had a Waterford/Mayo win, there will be celebrations. There will be an outpouring of emotion that will spill out onto the streets.

Deffo Mayo, Cavan, Tipp or Waterford wins would be celebrated and rightly so, criticism would follow of course, would it really affect the overall course of covid in Ireland, I don't think so.

Heard that too. I think the GAA community are playing their part in this prolonged lockdown.
The Minister should ask the NPHET junta to come up with another strategy.

I think the politicians should organise another golf outing in galway to discuss this and think it over

Either way, I'm not exactly disagreeing with you. But if we can save 1000s of unnecessary deaths, I think we should."
you were right. Sorry cavan man ,best of luck against the dubs :)

No one wants deaths, we all just want the best for this country, myself included. I think you were right about most of what you said.

Multiple English stadiums bringing a few fans back in the stadium tonight..
Surely the All Ireland final should have an allocated amount of ticket's for fans.
Don't see how 2,000/500 fans should be an issue given we now have a vaccine on the way and we have an idea where
we are at with the Covid-19 and are in a position to deal with it.

Ireland isnt the UK. Dont think we should be following anything the Brits have done through covid.
What fans would you allow attend? How do you determine who gets tickets?

They are in a far worse position than Ireland.
Its not all about the Brits lad , multiple countries around Europe are slowly reopening the gates for sporting events now.
Seeing that its a final they should get a few in for it albeit a small figure like i quoted , and it should be manageable.

Season ticket holders from respective counties could get put in a open draw, with a covid-19 test done prior to entry.
Mobile screener on the day to ensure all selected haven't contracted any symptoms..
800 each county , 400 towards the fat-cats-media teams -Finalist teams .

Why would you start bringing a select few fans to a match after coming so far without them? Who's going to pay for these tests your talking about, mobile screeners on the day , make the draws, are fans who traveled all over after their team different to season ticket holders. Unreal. GAA don't have to follow what they do over the water.

If someone is willing to pay for a ticket and their test I see no problem with a safe number of them attending the final.

They should give priority to some season ticket holders from participating counties working in healthcare and front line services and, if it was possible, to some elderly people with season tickets. The rest in a lottery for season ticket holders. Forget the moneymaking aspect to it, will gain a bit from TV. Just show a bit of gratitude that those who got us through the dark days. They're class.

Happy Christmas everyone from Mrs and Mr Green and Red and the family!

Attending games is deemed too risky.

So your answer is to let the elderly and healthcare workers attend??

We'll have TV cameras in there. And we can all watch it from the safety of our living rooms.

As cavanman47 says we cant really let elderly people or people working in healthcare/front line services as they are most likely to be working with people who have been diagnosed with covid. How does that make sense?

We shouldnt be having people attend these games. anyway.
