Eh there are actually stats to prove they have improved as the two boys spoke about on the Sunday Game last night.

Would it be OK if the referee for this game was from Galway and living in Castlebar? Aibrean (Kerry) - Posts: 366 - 05/08/2019 11:45:48 2221048 Link 6 |

Who have they played though? Roscommon were much better, zoned in, the night they beat us. Tyrone junior team. Cork relegated from division 2. We've not played a decent championship game since 2017 admittedly but Dublin's route to the semi finals hasn't been that challenging.

First off its a great draw and im really looking forward to the occasion. Brilliant set of fans and a credit to their county, it will be full of color and passion and Dublin Vs Mayo has proven the premier fixture in the GAA in the last decade. The appetite is whetted. I think Mayo will win by 2. Any team that wins a close one playing badly is the one to fear. Dublin will not get the 5 in a row. maroondiesel (Mayo) - Posts: 1288 - 05/08/2019 12:33:21 2221077 Link 0 |

The day is coming when things just don't go right for Dublin, In order for the universe to be in balance they will have an off day where for no particular reason or due to an accumulation of a few things don't click. Now if there is quality in the team they are playing that day and enough hunger to seize the opportunity then maybe just maybe that team might win. When that day comes I would back mayo to seize that chance Mickhiggins (Galway) - Posts: 52 - 05/08/2019 12:48:29 2221084 Link 0 |

Good post and I hope your right and we can keep it tight. I fear though what Dublin might do to us.

Merely pointing out to the OP that there are stats to prove Dublin have improved. How do you know Roscommon were much better the night they beat you? Surely as championship goes on teams improve? Anyway we will know soon enough. Cant wait.

You could also say that Donegal were very poor at the weekend and Mayo have only played one good team so far, Kerry, and we all know what happened there. You can only beat what's in front of you. This lark of peaking runs and not being tested is makey up material by journos. If you're good enough you're good enough. No amount of testing and peaking runs will make you good enough. Talent and experience are the keys. Dublin and Mayo have both going into this game.

The question isn't if Mayo are good enough. They are. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 2052 - 05/08/2019 14:13:57 2221129 Link 0 |

So Mayo are good enough but haven't got up to Dublin's scoring percentages since 2012?. You might be onto something there. Dec82 (Clare) - Posts: 242 - 05/08/2019 14:49:27 2221148 Link 1 |

Bit harsh on us there I would have thought- Galway and Donegal are both decent sides and we beat them this championship season. It's true that we have been struggling through a lot of games in the last three seasons though, we don't blow teams away like the Dubs do. Irrespective of what happens on Saturday, I think this has been a decent first season back for Horan, given that we won the NFL for the first time in nearly two decades and had a good run through the qualifiers in very testing circumstances. He has also blooded several new players (and a returning one in the form of Darren Coen) this season, which has been one of the common criticisms of several Mayo management teams in the media over the past number of seasons. The obvious down side has been the failure to win Connacht again, but looking at the results of the games between Mayo, Galway and Roscommon over the past year or so, I don't see much in it and it's far from unattainable to win Nestor back again next season. But that is utterly dependent on creating scoring chances and getting into good positions to score - and that is one thing Dublin are very good at. WE have a powerful, mobile middle 8 who can transition the ball quickly to our scoring forwards. Dublin players also don't tend to do Holy Mary half chances. The ball is patiently retained and recycled until it's given to somebody in a good scoring position. That's why their stats are so good in this respect. It's not that they have lethal sharpshooters who can score from 30-40 yard -with the exception Diarmuid Connolly of course.

A lot is in Mayo's favor this time. They are able to call on a full squad of players for the first time this year. They are playing with a huge hunger and don't give players a second on the ball, without being tackled. COC is back to his best and fittest first time in 3 years. AOS is fitter than ever. giveitlong (Galway) - Posts: 1341 - 05/08/2019 16:18:40 2221198 Link 0 |
