Wexford Hurling 2025

Two questions:

Does head to head come in to play in the league? Our scoring difference still has a fair dent in it.

If you were management would you stick or twist with the team for next Saturday? Don't think any injuries were picked up yesterday thankfully and hoping common sense prevails with the red card.

Id give Cian Byrne a break anyway, red card or not. ROC has hardly hit a ball this year yet so could do with a good run out.

Two answers:

1 - Yes, it does.
2 - Stick.

Great result to wake up to on a Monday morning, not a full strength Clare team but lots for Wexford to come back as well?
I hate the thought of shadow boxing in the league, go out to win the game v Galway and sow a seed of doubt for April and keep Galway in relegation potential. The game on Saturday will have no bearing on the Leinster Championship game. But staying up will matter big time for Wexford next season. So its a big enough game to win if we can.
But anyway, with the level of analysis on teams now you fool nobody holding anything back or naming a dummy team.
But well done to the team on Sunday.

Replying To Bon:  "That's because Chin is a top class player surrounded by a lot of average players, he'd make any team in Ireland. You take rory o Connor out of the that wexford team and the gap between chin and the rest of the players is big. He's also the heart and soul of that team too imo."
Damien Reck is the best hurler in Wexford.

Replying To Past hurler:  "Hearne was our most consistent player last year too.

His engine to get up and down the field is phenomenal and a great hurler.

If Wexford beat Galway this weekend, it's put ourselves and Galway on 4pts each and we'd have them on head to head.

Galway's other results v Limerick & Cork would determine if we stay up or not and our last game v Limerick too."
I agree about hearne. He's becoming really really important for us in the same way Paul Morris was. Never setting the world alight but you know you're getting 100% at the same levels every day.

There's no head to head. It's scoring difference then goals for, then goals conceded. If they're all equal it's a playoff so we need

1. A result from both games (hard to imagine)

2. Beat Galway by 20 odd points, scoring maybe 6 goals and hope they don't get anything out of their remaining games (equally hard to imagine).

Both are equally hard to imagine but we have a fightings chance after yesterday which is something.

Damien Reck is massive for us. As is Liam Ryan.

Clare could win their last 3. Cork only have 3 points so far, as do Limerick. Kilkenny only have 4 either but do have the head to head on us. Nothing set in stone yet.

Replying To Timbertony:  "Think there could be a bit of shadow boxing with Galway next Saturday. Do both teams really want to be showing their full hand? That's why it was critical to perform in Ennis yesterday, we simply had to. If we get some game time into likes of Rory, Shane Reck and Molloy and are competitive, that will be enough. Galway seem to have made big changes to their squad this year."
Only for the 1st game did they play an experimental side. The last 2 games they had 10 or so regulars starting including most of their best players.
I'm not sure shadow boxing is the right way to put it, as I don't think either team will have all their best players available, and certainly not fully up to championship speed even if they are available.

Replying To ElGranSenor:  "Good chance that over 40% of our staring team come Championship will be U23

Or at least that's what I hope will be the case

Big issue for us right now is not that the U23s in the county aren't good enough but rather that I don't think our best team involves anyone between the age of 24 and 26

And that's the age-group who need to backbone any senior inter-county team, Cork and Tipperary were the ones who were dominating U20 between 2019 and 2021, they're the ones who should be dominating at senior level now"
Hearne, Damien Reck and Rory are in that age group aren't they? Dwyer too.

Head to head only if 2 teams tied.

Rory was playing with the Martins up to around December, then played against Cork.

Great to get that win and more importantly a better team performance . Still does nt excuse the apathy shown in the other games .
I ll always support wexford i may not go to all games unfortunately due to work etc I ll try to keep helping the younger generations too . but there has to be more pride , more heart , more determination shown by anyone that puts on that jersey every time they go out. Be it league a mundane practice match oland especially championship .
The performance directly affects all of us in our everyday lives .
We live , breathe/ and bleed Wexford .
When we do well we walk that bit taller chest out smile on our faces .
When we go down without a fight it leaves us with a hollow empty feeling , dejected and unsure of ourselves .
That's what it means . That's what I feel i can't speak for others .
If we go down, we go down fighting together .
let this be our turning point and give it 100% from now in every game .
That's all I ask anyway.

Well done to Richie Lawlor, Lee Chin and Seamus Casey on getting selected for the GAA hurling TOTW. Lee Chin also nominated for POTW.

It was as close to Clare's strongest team as was available to them. I'd argue we were as understrength or perhaps more.
