everyone is entitled to their say but who knows whats ahead of us......anyone saying there will be no sport in 2020 is just guessing. its only the 21st of april and i know things don't look good at the moment , but there could be changes that we didn't see coming as the year goes on we could be looking at a totally different scenario on august 1st or sept the 1st...at present sporting prospects don't look great but who knows what twist and turns this virus could take as the year goes on.

Like closing the barn door after the horse breaks out. Sigh. I haven't seen numbers out of the North yet. Have you?

With the new recommendations, I think it's fair to say that's it for football this year (and hurling)

That's curtains for Inter County Football after today's announcement. If anything it's made the GAA decision easier now. It will be club football or nothing later in year. At least county lads can back off now and close out the uncertainty .

Was never going to happen with current rate of deaths and it almost May.

Why what new recommendations were announced today royaldunne? I watched the news at 1 and I heard nothing.

Ban on mass gatherings in excess of 5,000 people won't be lifted until at least September.

Oh fair enough just sitting down to the news, so you can 5000 people at events but no more?

Kerry usually don't more than 5,000 supporters before September anyways, so they should be grand!!

And that I wouldn't be surprised will remain in place until September 2021 at least, possibly longer as it'll take that long for a widespread availability of a vaccine. A vaccine is now seemingly the only hope of a return to anything like normal. Why am I so pessimistic, well because of today's UEFA meeting which discussed the possibility of Euro 2020, now 2021, becoming Euro 2022 and being played in Summer 2022 with the World Cup that November. If UEFA are now discussing this as a possibility then whatever they are hearing from their Swiss neighbours in the WHO must be extremely pessimistic.

Of course there will be sport but more than likely not gaa.
Tennis golf already have nod without crowds
Darts if u can call it a sport will be back.
Soccer professional has to be back to pay players out of TV money been withheld.
Nfl baseball nba wlll all be played cause of money involved there will be a way found of getting them on.
Horseracing greyhounds will be back.
But there won't be crowds
Gaa ain't high enough up the money ladder for players managers physios referees to risk themselves or money to be invested to test each player before each game.

5,000 people?!? I wonder why they settled on that number when they also encourage Social Distancing.

Them big events Olympics, euros, world cups are major fan events, where purpose built Stadia have been built at huge costs so as to win the rights to hold them.
If you build them and theres no fans allowed your not alone a laughing stock but out millions possibly billions will the crowds be that care free and willing to fill these money monster stadiums by summer 2021.
I doubt Joe soap is willing to invest in 5 to 20 grand to attend a Olympics unless there guaranteed its safe to go to and definitely on.

Pick the top 16 teams in the country, open draw knockout from that to decide the All Ireland football 2020, all games on RTE,
you could do the same with hurling, 8 teams likely be enough in hurling though.

There's no way its just going to disappear by August. There will still be sporadic outbreaks. If the GAA decided to start to run a championship, and 1 player on 1 team gets the virus, what happens then? That team and the teams they have played go into lockdown and the championship grinds to a halt again. That's all it would take.

Thank God there was no word of social distancing when you'd be asking a doll out for a slow dance years ago, what a sh*t world it is now.
