Cavan’s 2025 prospects have been boosted by Gearoid McKiernan’s return to the fold.
The 34-year-old former captain didn’t feature in 2024, but it’s now widely reported that he has returned after a series of impressive displays for his club Cavan Gaels in their run to this year’s county SFC semi-finals. McKiernan was Cavan’s talisman for much of the past decade, first coming to national prominence as skipper of the Breffni County side that reached the All-Ireland U21FC final in 2011. He was also to the fore when Cavan lifted the Anglo-Celt Cup in 2020.
McKiernan is one of 13 new additions to Cavan boss Raymond Galligan’s training panel which is also notable for the inclusion of goalkeeper Nevin O’Donnell, who has transferred back from Leitrim.
