It's funny how the atmosphere in front of 21k in thurles is infinitely better than 33k in croker. It's honestly the worst venue in the country for matches under 40k.

Would have loved to been in thurlas today and likewise limerick in 2 weeks. Great day.

What was the attendance up in Derry? Seemed a decent crowd too.

Because its all in your mind jack Goff you have a thing against Croke park unless its full
And you have a thing against the Leinster championship in football in general it seems these days.
The comment on hoping Meath don't make a Leinster final and Dublin hammer Westmeath/ Wexford or Wicklow in there place proves your obsessed with degrading the competition.
The reason the atmosphere was different was because you had a completely one sided game in croker with 99% of the crowd from one team and in thurles you had a much more level crowd and a tight game on the pitch.
It ain't rocket science. Dublin played mayo in league last year and atmosphere was brilliant, only 22thousand were in croker that night but the match was ebbing so made for great atmosphere.

Hill if you put that 21k and the match into croker the atmosphere would have been 10 times worse.

Again croker is the worst venue in the country for these lower attended matches.

If meath make the leinster semi vs wexford or westmeath I'd do anything to play it on tullamore or portlaoise.

I'm 100% with Jack on this one. Croker has an awful atmosphere when only half full or less, it has an echoey feel and the streams of empty seats looks horrible aswell. It's an even worse atmosphere watching on tv when it is only half full. Ok, Croker has an unbelievable atmosphere when its full or with 60k plus, but apart from this the GAA need to stop playing these games in Croker. As Jack said, if Meath beat Wicklow on Sunday, I would much rather the semi-final to be in PortLaoise or Tullamore as opposed to a double header with the Dubs playing after. There does be only 20k at most at the first semi final that doesn't involve Dublin and that would suit a smaller provincial venue perfectly. The suggestion of building a smaller modern 40k stadium somewhere in Leinster if definitely a good idea, would suit league finals, and All Ireland quarter finals down to the ground

Lucky the Dubs and Galway crowd didnt stay for the football in Tullamore Sat night as it was jammed more than the attendence given its a nice ground but just too small for big attendences like that and a night mare to park and get in and out of!

There was loads of space in the stand and terrace behind the goal. Could have easily taken more as seen in the Kilkenny v Galway last year.

10.5k at the down Derry match. Not good but not bad. It's telling though that this will be the second lowest attendance of this championship.

It's in as good a shape as ever !

Theyre definitely looked to be a lot more than 10,500 at the Derry v Down match yesterday.Given
that the stands and far side was completely full, the only significant space was at the goal end.
1/3 full.Either that or the Celtic Park capacity of 22,000 is greatly exaggerated. The ground was
not less than half full thats for sure.

There were 10,500 paying supporters at the match yesterday. I don't think this figure includes under 16's who gained entry free of charge? I could be wrong, but this is my understanding. I would say there was between 13k-15k at the match.

Yeah i would have put it around 14,000 to 15,000 Mourne Army.

It seems strange not to include all the people at a match in
the attendance. The GAA seems remarkably poor at giving
accurate attendances in comparison to the English Premier
league for example.

There was 17,000 at the Derry vs. Donegal game last year and it was packed to the rafters. I think 17,000-18,000 is about the capacity and there probably was right around 11,000 there yesterday.

jack goff tullamore was 90 full on saturday and was flat atmosphere

and it was like a graveyard

Hill16man you are spoofing and you know it. There was a double header and most fans only came for their match . The atmosphere was actually decent especially the hurling considering it was an anililation .

And thurlas last year couldn't have had two worst matches. Both losers hammered out the gate. If the matches were good the atmosphere would have been great. Like it was for cork v waterford with half that attendance.

Last close match for Dublin was v Laois in leinster recently. They led by 2 at half time. I was at it and I think the attendance was 40k. It was like being in a graveyard .

i was there i think i would have far better idea, why would i spoof it was a dublin match and im from dublin
your hilarious man.
the atmosphere was non existent for the hurling ask anybody who was there
the football brightened up a bit in last 10 mins when kildare came back.
awh finally the penny drops with you thats what im saying all along what happens on the pitch
dictates if the atmpshere will be goos or not
its not the ground or the size of it.
we won that game against laois by what 11 points wasnt it yeah you hunt with the hare and run with the hound
its an excuse in thurles and other grounds when the game is one sided but croker or dublin footballers and its not allowed
your some boyo for pulling things to your own way
what the thinker thinks the prover proves
your a model for that theory.

I was in thurlas for the match. The atmosphere was actually decent as a neutral . Much better than the equal scenario of a hammering in Croke Park as seen with the Longford match .

Yes the match makes a difference but a good match between two teams in thurles in munster in front of 30k would dwarf something similar in Dublin.

Case in point Dublin v Laois in front of over 40k. For over 50mins it was a very competitive match. Yet the atmosphere reflected what you'd get in a challenge match. Was like being at a funeral.

You cant spin this. Your just wrong. Croker is dire for sub 40k matches and it's getting worse by the year.

20, 254 in Salthill for Galway Mayo. Ground can hold 34, 000 so much bigger than official attendance. I would say all the free kids made it a 25, 000 attendance at least. Knew Mayo had big support but the Galway public turned out in force as well going by jersies etc.
