Why should it matter if Dublin fans don't turn up? As has been said on other threads if you don't like the way the game is being played then don't go. Who would want to go to a glorified exhibition game anyway, far better on offer in my local club. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4942 - 13/04/2015 11:36:11 1713628 Link 0 |
Hill16no1man, wasn't complaining about the Dubs playing in Croker the whole time, I'm basically complaining about the GAA playing too many games in Croker. Games alone that draw anything under 50,000 should not be played in Croker. Atmosphere is horrible. The AI semi final replay last year was a great advertisement for the game, almost 40,000 packed into Limerick with a cracking atmosphere and no massive sections empty like we see in Croker time and time again. And another thing, Dublin has a population of 1.2 million, how exactly do they not draw bigger crowds with a population like that? Its not as if they are struggling, they are possibly the most entertaining team in the country. I don't know how big of a role the GAA plays in Dublin but with a population like that I think they should be filling Croker for All Ireland quarters and Leinster finals aswell PoppinPoints (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 13/04/2015 18:01:52 1713842 Link 0 |
17,559 in thurles for waterford v cork final today hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 03/05/2015 20:13:01 1720031 Link 0 |
Agree with alot of that poppinants. The Mayo kerry was replay was a great success last year, and I would have far preferred to have been in the crowd in limerick, than in the crowd in Croker a week beforehand. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 03/05/2015 20:41:11 1720035 Link 0 |
17,500 is a poor crowd for a NHL final - it looked like Waterford outnumbered Cork today cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1685 - 03/05/2015 21:15:39 1720049 Link 0 |
I wonder will posters be calling for the hurling final to be taken out of thurles with attendances like today of only a third of the ground full hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 03/05/2015 21:36:35 1720059 Link 0 |
some clowns on this thread the days of full league final for hurling are long gone demographics and economic emigration are a huge part to play..Cork outnumbered us by 2 or 3 to 1 but you would expect that considering there size of their county and ours..cork hurling support has always been huge football counties wouldnt know..dubs have some cheek talking about attendances when they have all the populations all the money..come to waterford we have the highest unemployment in Ireland and one of the smallest counties and we still bring a good crowd plenty of colour and great craic but i wouldnt expect the dutch gold football crowd to know that like they know nothing about cork hurling supporters UptheDeise (Waterford) - Posts: 225 - 03/05/2015 21:47:13 1720064 Link 0 |
And poppinpoints there was 35 thousand in a 50 thousand stadium for that semi final replay hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 03/05/2015 21:47:17 1720065 Link 0 |
Hill16, I disagree with the stats there, just look up the highlights of the game on youtube and tell me how was there any way of fitting in another 15 thousand people. the stadium looks already packed PoppinPoints (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 04/05/2015 11:15:48 1720089 Link 0 |
The max that could have fitted into Limerick last year for the AI semi-final was probably another 500-1000 people. Not a hope could 15,000 more could fit in. There was no part of the stadium that looked even partially empty. PK57 (Louth) - Posts: 1657 - 04/05/2015 11:52:12 1720107 Link 0 |
They were the Gaa attendance figures not mine so why would they want to give lower attendance for a game they were getting heat for in the first place if anything they would inflate the attendance to try suggest it was a success. hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 04/05/2015 12:48:09 1720127 Link 0 |
Hill16no1man, look up the replay last year. Does the Gaelic grounds really hold 50,000? Was that the actual attendence? There is not a hope that 15000 more people could have fitted in. The stadium was jammed. The difference with the game yesterday and the Football league final was that the GAA decided to drag cork up to Croker to play. Then you have everyone blaming cork for a poor attendence. It should have been played in a neutral ground with a neutral proximity and yes, a smaller sizes ground. It only makes sense PoppinPoints (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 04/05/2015 17:34:54 1720183 Link 0 |

I agree with hill16no1man here. I remember 45 / 50k being the norm for Cork Kerry Munster finals during the Jackie Charlon era when soccer was booming and then subsequently the arrival of the back door crowds dropped away to around the 25 / 30k. If you are watching on TV you wouldn't notice a huge amount of free space. On a terrace if you have people on every third step as opposed to every step it still looks fairly full on the box. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 353 - 06/05/2015 09:34:18 1720703 Link 0 |

Galway hurlers not really- Depends on if they are winning. A winning team brings out the fans it is as simple as that. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2565 - 17/05/2015 20:19:48 1724706 Link 0 |
