I'd have the dual ranking something like
1. Cork.
2. Dublin.
3. Galway
4. Laois
5. Tipperary
6. Wexford
7. Offaly

Castlebravo you are spot on. Until 2 years ago we had a football and a hurling board, 2 jersies, 2 crests and 2 sponsors. At one point a few years previous to that the hurling jersey was nearly a shade of brown. Ridiculous really. Now we have one county board and the same jersey, crest and sponsor. Unfortunately the old hurling board incurred a serious debt buying land for a centre of excellence that will never happen. As a result the football centre of excellence outside Claregalway is home to the hurlers as well. The debt is a major stumbling block as little funds for resourcing our county teams.

Judging by the support Cork and Donegal have in Croke Park, there was more at the club league game I attended last night. You can hear individual voices in the crowd.

you have to consider that these are 2 counties with a long way to travel to Croke Park, they will have to repeat the trip if their team makes the final, the match is televised, and both have bigger/alternative ambitions this year.

What a shame to see so few people watching two very good teams, take these games out of croker!

Looking at the pace of the game which is miles away from championship, neither team is taking the game too seriously.

Probably explains the small attendance.

As for the individual voices, that seems to be one man, who either has a great set of lungs or is standing close to a mic!!

The GAA must be the only organisation in the world where they continue to play games that only attract a few thousand in an 80,000 seater stadium. Can they ever think? Play this game in a smaller venue and what do we have, a better atmostphere, not this echoey crap we hear when Croker is only about 10% full. The Dublin Monaghan game alone was never going to attract over 25000, why not play that in Breffni in Cavan? Brilliant game by the way but it's a pity the GAA don't promote our games better then watching stadiums with tens of thousands of empty seats

Hard to see the point behind the league semi finals.

The teams are not that bothered, the supporters are not that bothered, & there can't be much money being made, so what's the point?

Hard to believe that Down postponed club games for the Div 2 decider!!

Cork v Donegal should have been played in Salthill, MacHale Park Castlebar or Dr Hyde Park Roscommon not Croke Park, they wouldn't fill a busload, we'll see with Dublin v Monaghan, Dublin have a large support and could have been as a double header in Connacht or a midlands venue

Good job Dublin are still involved or there wouldn't habe been 10,000 there today, corks football support is embarrassing for everyone, is there merit in playing the final in portlaoise, be a novelty for the town & the dubs creating an athmosphere & cork might get 5/600 to travel?

Murrayfield in Edinburgh holds 67,144. The Munster rugby team played there last night in front of 4,818. In comparison 20,000+ in Croke Park today seems very respectable. By the way the atmosphere in Croke Park today was fine. After all you can't beat being there.

Dublin v Cork now, play the game in Portlaoise, Tullamore, Thurles even? Oh but no, play it on Dublins doorstep and blame Cork for a poor attendence, start thinking the GAA

Yep, our football support is terrible. I'm not great myself, I go to most of the home games but apart from a league final I don't ever recall having travelled for an away football league game.

I think the attendance here was doomed because of the hammering the Dubs gave Monaghan in the last round of games. Remember they was close to 15k at that. If that had been a cracker I'd imagine a good portion of that Monaghan crowd would have travelled and It would have brought a few more Dubs out as well. Bare in mind that Dubs support has been beaten down by the most unattractive Spring series ever. No Cork, Kerry or Mayo coming to Croke Park to take them on, 4 ulster teams who were fine tuning their defensive systems.

As mentioned above Cork bring very few. Donegal then have had the taste of Ulster Finals, All Ireland semis and finals in recent years, they are as far away from Croke Park as is possible and with a strong possibility of a long championship run on the cards shelling out for league semi was always going to be big ask of their support. Yesterdays crowd was very predictable.

Where you get big support for league semis is when you have an up and coming team not used of big days, a team on the rise yet to experience big championship days.

I reckon the Dubs will come out for the League final. After Kerry, Mayo and Meath I reckon cork would be their next most attractive opposition. The Rossies should bring a big crowd to the division 2 final. I reckon it's worth the trip, we might even have to commission a third bus down here in Cork!

I have to agree with what a lot of people have been saying here. I have been in Portlaois on a good few occasions and found it a great venue for games.
A double header here I feel would have been a great choice.

poppinpoints you love any chance to have a go dont you man
yesterday was a por attendance yes but clearly expected
as dahyaser points out clear reasons
we had 27500 and 23000 at tyrone and donegal games
most counies wont get that in championship
last time dublin played cork in league final in 2011 there was 36 thousand
and last years league final v derry had just under 40 thousand

Going to play devils advocat here for a second for the sake of balance.

Most counties won't get 23-27,000 at games because most counties dont have even 1/5th of the population we have.

And as always when people bring up population, alot of Dublin fans on here will say, Ah yea but hw many of those are foreign nationals ?

Well i've been to all 4 corners or this island watching Dublin at one time or another and i've always come across foreign nationals in other counties. So that reasoning is lazy as there are foreign nationals all over the place

Fact is, Croke park really is on our doorstep.

Some people like yourself hill may think 23-27,000 is a good attendance, For me its poor. Note... poor.

This is the best Dublin team we are likely to see for a good time in my opinion. You brought it up yourself on many occasions, In recent years we have played some mind blowing football, Yet those two factors are only contributing to filling 1/4 of Croke park for a national semi final.

Thats poor.

That's really, really poor given the success this team has had in recent years, and the fact our population is massive in comparison to other counties.

Personally i despise the league games in Croker.

I'd much rather go down the country for a game, Our best performances so far have been on the road.

wayno your forgetting one big thingthe dublin manager has come out before and after every league game this year
saying the same thing that the league is not our priority the championship is
if the manager comes out saying that
you can have china and india population put together and you still wouldnt fill croke park
ah come now comparing a few thousand in other counties of non nationals to
compare dublins non dub population you would surely get half of our population being non nationals and country people
living and working up here bit of a difference now
