Rough justice!"
Very true. I'd say a team on 7 points was never relegated before in the history of the league, but you guys in Ireland would know better about that than the man across the water!

The Hurling finals down in Cork are looking like a sell out. Meanwhile will be lucky to see even 10K in Croke Park on Sunday?

Thats because the match in being held beside all four competing counties.

Whereas, in the football
Mayo and Kerry should be in Ennis
Monaghan and Roscommon should be in Breffni Park
Kildare v Offaly and Wexford v Limerick should be a double header in Portlaoise

You would have a bigger combined crowd and better atmosphere at all games.

Bringing them to Corker just looks like a training match.

Another final for Mayo in Croke park, sure they love the place!

Tullamore is around 200km from PUC. Hardly next to it......

Realistically, Wexford won't have a massive support next Saturday anyway, because people here just don't turn out in anywhere near the same numbers for our footballers as they do for our hurlers, no matter how well our footballers are going. This was the case even when we went all the way to an All-Ireland semi-final back in 2008.

But more will go to Croke Park than would go to Portlaoise. And a match in Croke Park means a lot more to our players too than a match in Portlaoise would.

Replying To foreveryoung:  "It will be interesting to see how it pans out. Mickey Harte will be going all out for silverware. He always does. Kildare once again flattered to deceive when they met the other two big guns in division three. I was beginning to believe that they had turned a corner but their too-often soft side resurfaced before the league was over. That in itself is a reason for Kildare to go out hammer and tongs to try to finally win something and allay the everlasting feelings of doubt that haunt their supporters, and prove that they can at least take care of Offaly, a county that has been down in the doldrums for almost 30 years now; a once proud footballing county.

If Kildare don't win this league final, they will have nothing to show once again for another year!"
I agree - Kildare have had a tough job winning games in Croker Park recently and winning something there would show we're moving in the right direction.

But I think the focus is on the Leinster Championship now and getting into final and into the All Ireland series. Rightly or wrongly it's another example where the league final is not seen as a must win game.

As for the attendance in Croke Park - I predict this will be less than attended the game a couple of weeks ago; even with the double header. As other posters have suggested a double header in Portlaoise would probably see a much larger crowd.

There will still be a few of us there! Maybe more than you think! Definitely more than there were of us when I went to Ennis and the Ennis Road the last 2 times the hurlers were away!

Thurles would have been better but The Great White Elephant in Cork needs to be paid for. Offaly supporters have to suck it up to keep the gates open on Michael Martin and Franks Murphys vanity project.

Oh, there'll be more than was at the hurling in either Ennis or Limerick all right!

But my point is that whatever number goes to Croke Park, it'd be more than would go to Portlaoise. You know as well as I do that many Wexford people love a big day out to Croke Park, but not so much to other venues. And that applies to the hurling team too - we get about 8,000 for an All-Ireland quarter-final in Thurles, but we'd probably have 25,000 or more for the same match if it was in Croker.

Always prefer Thurles for hurling but glad that our second city has a fine stadium which is available for soccer and rugby matches as well. Fair play to Mayo GAA making McHale Park available for the Connacht/Munster match this weekend. Will be a great boost for Castlebar, hearing 26,000 tickets sold ( three times the turn out for last Sundays league match and over four times the capacity of the Sportsground) . Best of luck to Mayo on Sunday , always happy to see any silverware crossing the Shannon.

I agree, especially in such a condensed season. This time though Im sure McStay is very happy to give his team a good outing in Croke park.

Can anyone explain why the Division 1 and 2 finals are not being played together on the Sunday like every previous year…? Who on earth thought bringing Monaghan and Roscommon supporters up to Dublin on a Saturday night would be a good idea..? Can this association do anything right…?

Youre wrong again as usual......
Roscommon Co Board asked for the D2 Final to be moved to Saturday.

I m right as usual… It's the first time the two top finals haven't been together on a Sunday… Roscommon requesting the change just shows how little respect they have for their supporters… nothing strange in that I guess….!

No championship game should be scheduled for Division 1 or 2 counties on the Saturday after the league finals. It was always known that Sunday would be the designated day for the Division 2 final.

Just because Cavan people shudder at having to pay the price of Dublin pints on a Saturday night, doesn't mean the rest of the country are that tight.
