John Connolly's Famous All Ireland Speech Has Been Overtaken By Jarlet Burns

Its unfortunate that Gaa President Burns has made such a dramatic and well founded speech at an All Ireland when we got such a haul of medals at the Olympics .
President Burns speech was brilliant and as already stated by me he included all Tea Lady, Jersey washer, field linesman ought he just thought of everyone .
How could ( other than disgruntled opponents of the Gaa ) find fault with his brilliance.
It will be talked about in years to come, like Cavans victory in All Ireland against Keryy in New York in 1947 ."
It's actually funny cos the Camoige President made a speech that was as passionate as Jarlath Burns but he has been lambasted by the GAA for being too political.You could not write it.

Yes they did. But we didn't build them for the Camogie Association. Their use of them costs us nothing.

I think you will find that there are a fair few women that help fund and run the GAA behind the scenes along with helping clubs with fundraising and making sandwiches or was Jarlath Burns speech all bluster and no substance.

Gaa President Jarlet Burns must have delivered the most riveting All Ireland speech (in very emotional circumstances)
when his beloved Armagh hung on to lift the Sam maguire cup..
Burns who had a son Jarlet Og who incidentally has the Ball when the final whistle was sounded.
President Burns speech referenced the work that , people who cut the grass, make the Tea or wash the Jerseys in Armagh this for you.
Very emotional , indeed as one myself who did voluntary Gaa work ( along with the great Mrs T )I found myself getting emotional"
Not even close, Galway closed a 56 year gap, and Joe's (Not John) bi-lingual speech was emotional in both languages, thanking grass roots and immigrants who were "crying with joy" today. We played this speech when my father was in the last stages of Alzheimers, he did not recognize anyone, but he lit up when he heard this speech and Joe McDonagh singing "The West Awake", very powerful and one for the best speeches given in any sports period.

And I am pretty sure that members of camoige associations have paid that back in spades with helping GAA clubs all over the country with volunteering.My family are members of hurling,camoige and football clubs.

Not sure tbh. But being as we belong to an Association that has 800,000 members that equates to one euro per member. Hardly bank breaking stuff. And I know from our club that the Camogie Association and LGFA members do plenty of voluntary work to keep our club going. Priceless work.

I am no fan of Jarlath Burns - But if he ran for President of Ireland, he surely would be in with a good shout. I'm sure Sinn Fein will have this lined up. I'd be surprised if he was not in the running next year.

Joe Connolly's speech forever, not the start of the political runway Burns speech. He seems very focused on elevating himself and his own profile - methinks Jarlath has bigger personal plans. Watch that space.

Exactly Joe Connollys speech was a captains speech and as I said before if the Armagh captain had given that speech there would be no problem with it at all.

Not anti-Ulster at all.Have spent mant All Irelands shoyting for Ulster teams and club finals as well.I was in awe at what Slaughtneil did and continue to do.When you come put with that speil then you have lost the argument.

You posted an opinion, I disagree with your opinion. If Burns wants to run for president of Ireland when the leprechaun retires then so be it. To say people are begrudgers simply because they don't agree with your opinion and therefore carry a chip against Ulster teams and individuals is a little narrow minded. Burns seems like a fine individual, a GAA icon, a good GAA president and orator but sorry doesn't even come close to Joe Connolly's speech in 1980.

I dont agree with your opinion coming after you Galway people lost An Ireland that you were favourites and indeed every Galway man felt youse would win easy.
Agh but the result on the day belongs to Armagh who out foxed Galway. Even the mighty Shane Walsh, and Comer were played of the Field ( was Comer subitised I think he was ) by the foxy old Armagh bench.. And then to think that that great Burns speech over shadowed Connolly's long standing epistle which has stood the test of time . Connolly got up spoke in both Gaeilge and Bearla and spoke well,
President Burns got up spoke in both languages even he is from South Armagh and he spoke from the heart after a game that he did not expect his County to win.
Well don Mr Burns and as already said I would have no hesitation in nominating him for Presidency once the position becomes vacant

His name is Michael D Higgins not "the leprechaun".
