John, Joe and Michael made contribution to hurling on field greater than any speeches. I had the pleasure is seen seven Connollys go against seven Fennellys in Mullinavat. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2868 - 28/07/2024 22:14:15 2562377 Link 1 |
Wrong everyone! The best All-Ireland speech EVER was ....... Anthony Daly in 1995. bruffgael (Limerick) - Posts: 201 - 28/07/2024 22:25:51 2562382 Link 1 |

jarlath burns getting alot of kudos for his speech.....platitudes, he would be better sorting on the disparity between grass roots & GAA corporate, ticket prices etc.....but i doubt if will be let totalrecall (Leitrim) - Posts: 994 - 29/07/2024 09:19:23 2562456 Link 1 |
John Connolly was a fine fine hurler, though it was his brother Joe who gave the speech The_DOC (Galway) - Posts: 735 - 29/07/2024 09:29:35 2562460 Link 0 |
This is all very subjective but I personally will never forget Martin storey's bridesmaids of hurling

I thought it was an self indulgent speech by Burns. He was certainly giving it as an Armagh man, not as GAA president. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1256 - 29/07/2024 10:01:35 2562475 Link 4 |
Higher than that Jimbo imo.... Watch this space..... Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3983 - 29/07/2024 10:10:01 2562480 Link 0 |
He could have thanked the residents of the area.. "All these concerts are for you..." He's a real politician in the making, won't be long until he is. Possibly building on his opportunity to make some noise surrounding himself while he has the stage and definitely build on the hype surrounding his last speech, he definitely let the orange glasses blind him a wee bit yesterday The honest GAA man - A vote for me, is a vote for the tea ladies. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20689 - 29/07/2024 10:31:32 2562496 Link 3 |
I thought the Armagh speech would never end. It was one step away from thanking Rex the dog who collected the ball from the gripe in 2012 eslinchickenmaryland (Leitrim) - Posts: 274 - 29/07/2024 10:44:02 2562503 Link 0 |
All nice talk from Jarlath, it's a great marketing phrase 'we all belong' ... but when it comes to GAA coaching grants etc some kids belong to the association more. It will all be hot air from jarlath unless equal funding is given to counties on a per population basis. devrandom (Galway) - Posts: 76 - 29/07/2024 12:40:42 2562567 Link 2 |

Jarlath had a good shot at replicating Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech from 1963. Boxtyeater (Leitrim) - Posts: 715 - 29/07/2024 14:24:13 2562648 Link 0 |

Joe (Not John Connolly) was Captain not the president of the GAA. Do Galway folks not wash Jerseys, line pitches, Cut the grass, make tea etc. He is president of the GAA not Armagh GAA. He should be hanging his head in shame. Galway supporters and the team (who probably did not care anyway what he said) deserved better from him. If Galway had won I would say the speech would have been a lot less muted. He has let himself down and ranks as low as John Horan who used to say "We" when he was on about Dublin. GAA Presidents needs to be neutral. He wasnt.
