Well, they were in Munster for Eleven Years, at all levels, from day one, and they high tailed it back to the West when it suited them also.

That's right, tell them to go to hell or to Connacht! Well done lads! Muimhneach is Laighneach in éineacht, nach deas sibh!

How many Leinsters in a row did KK win before Galway's arrival? How many more would they have won if Galway hadn't come in to help ye? Wasn't it Cody who complained that he wasn't getting a decent challenge to beat the Munster gang? Don't delude yourselves.

When it comes to proper traditional hurling, parish hurling, with no millionaire backing, we all know that it's strongest in KK and Galway. It may not suit some of ye to hear that...

Galway improved the championship no doubt. Prior to their arrival it was Wexford in 04, Dublin then in 13 shortly after Galway's arrival. I'd still argue Galway are the big winner from this. Your fortunes in the business end have definitely improved mainly at Wexford's expense. I should note however, our demise was our own fault, but it got worse when we were no longer assured of a Leinster final and aiqf at least every year Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4372 - 28/01/2024 12:54:26 2522626 Link 1 |

No hurling person would ever challenge Galway's strength at club or underage level.

I don't remember them years as it was before my time, but I do have a question about it: were the matched home and home or ALL in Munster? And what years did this happen? Thanks in advance.

In fairness if there was a podcast with any former Wexford manager (that was from Wexford) I am sure it would have been pretty bias as well. I wouldn't think their target audience is down in the south east!

Galway's only home game in the province came against Clare in 1965, a match they lost by a point. The bulk of their games were played in neutral venues, usually in Limerick. Their solitary win was achieved in MacDonagh Park in Nenagh. Some of the scorelines are hard to look at, though, to be fair, it should remembered that scorelines tended to be more lopsided across the board in those days. Here's every match Galway played in the Munster championship. 1959: Waterford 7-11 Galway 0-8 1960: Waterford 9-8 Galway 4-8 1961: Galway 2-13 Clare 0-8 1961: Tipperary 7-12 Galway 5-6 1962: Limerick 2-13 Galway 2-7 1963: Limerick 3-9 Galway 2-7 1964: Cork 4-14 Galway 2-7 1965: Clare 4-8 Galway 3-10 (match played in Pearse Stadium, would you believe!) 1966: Waterford 2-16 Galway 1-9 1967: Clare 3-13 Galway 1-11 1968: Cork 3-15 Galway 1-6 1969: Cork 3-15 Galway 1-10 zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 2190 - 28/01/2024 15:08:51 2522668 Link 0 |

I'm not usually inclined to read much into anything this time of year, but it has to be encouraging that both CBD and the two Byrnes showed up well today (Lawlor too, who would be a year ahead of the other lads in terms of breakthrough and would have pushed for a start last year but for injury). How'd our younger backs do, it's hard to gauge from radio commentary? Was sceptical about throwing Chin in from the start, would be more in favour of having him 100% for championship, but it just goes to show his importance to the group. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1530 - 28/01/2024 15:28:14 2522673 Link 0 |

It's only January still, but I'd be very happy with the work rate and attitude overall. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4372 - 28/01/2024 15:30:56 2522677 Link 0 |

Good day for the hurlers footballers and the ladies footballers which is nice. First time seen the hurlers this year and was impressed with them. I know it's January but the work ethic the lads put in was very impressive. Wasn't happy with chin staying on especially after he got hurt. I would have had him off after the goal cos the game was over but other than that ya have to be happy. Very happy with foley at full back Duggan don well in goal. Don't think any player played poor. Hopefully we can build on it now Wexfordgaa (Wexford) - Posts: 386 - 28/01/2024 16:22:27 2522702 Link 0 |

We had 7 lads starting who have never started a championship game, and 3 more who only started around 5 championship games between them. Galway were a little stronger on paper but also very experimental. This result won't mean anything come championship. But really well done to the lads and the management team for their effort! Was an entertaining game and I'm looking forwards to watching it back on clubber when I get home!

Correction, 14 AIs, Athenry twice by mistake, still not bad for a Connacht county!
