I agree that Kilkenny probably won the Leinster final against the run of play but I don't agree that Galway or any other team that plays in Leinster championship will beat this current Limerick team. If Limerick are beaten or dethroned, it will be in Munster and it is even hard to see or pinpoint what county in Munster can do it, maybe Tipperary in a few years time!!! Limerick lost three of their key defenders for most of this year and weren't beaten. Those injured guys will be back next year. I definitely think they will win the five in a row; maybe by the time they are going for six in a row, some other team might be in a position to stop them but I can't see it been done in 2024. With regard to Kilkenny, they had a brilliant team for a decade and a half but I think the well has run dry. Strange to say considering they have contested the last two All Irelands but maybe that is more to do with the current structure. If TJ etc retire then it is hard to see where the talent they need will come from; even for a county like Kilkenny.

Kilkenny have deservedly beaten Clare in 2 AI semi finals in a row and Clare have proven the last 2 years their the best in Munster outside of Limerick.

Cork struggled to beat Antrim last year. Clare struggled to beat Wexford. Tipp looked better this year but weren't great and were shocking last year. Kilkenny beat Clare the last 2 years. Munster was more competitive than Leinster this year but the last 3 round robins Leinster was at least as competitive. The only 2 counties that have qualified from all 4 Round Robins in the 2 provinces are Kilkenny and Limerick. 1 county from each.

They have beaten the next best team to Limerick in Munster in both the last 2 years. That's not just down to structure.

Tipp were also flattered to lose to Galway by only 2, your logic has more holes than a golf course.

One of the best second half performances you'll ever see. Well done Limerick. Hard luck to the Cats. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1467 - 23/07/2023 20:02:45 2496401 Link 0 |
True but if the Clare manager hadn't become obsessed with last year and focused on what served Clare best this year; I believe Clare would have been in the final. Lohan should have never have started with a sweeper in the All Ireland semi final. He afforded Kilkenny too much respect. Clare are the team that put it up to Limerick best this year. Based upon performances, I think Clare were the best of the rest over the course of this year. I think it is time to scrap the provincials and go with groups of teams but the Munster counties and the council will never agree to scrapping the Munster championship.

Ha nice way of putting it but the Vincent definitely stalled in the second half.

Your probably wondering what would a Roscommon man know about hurling, but he does have a point. I definitely agree that winning Leinster is so important because of the free pass to the All Ireland Semi Final because the standard in Leinster is weak. Isn't it mad to think that Waterford, Cork and Tipperary had all opportunities and "could have" beaten limrik in this years Munster Championship. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 23/07/2023 20:39:33 2496405 Link 0 |
No Kilkenny were the Harley!

Clare haven't delivered in Croke Park since 2013, no guarantee they'd put it up to Limerick like they do in Munster.

I don't judge anyone on the county there form, there's plenty of people here from traditional competing counties who talk nonsense.

Congrats to Limerick. What a 2nd half performance that was! 21 points in a half of an All Ireland final is just astonishing! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5212 - 23/07/2023 20:57:49 2496411 Link 0 |
Anthony Daly will tell you tomorrow in some newspaper that KK lost with no honour, that they didn't die on their shields. That's the tripe he signed off on about Galway, after their semi-final defeat to Limerick two weeks ago, when they went down by THE EXACT SAME MARGIN in eerily similar match circumstances. Maroon Lives Matter. Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 3906 - 23/07/2023 20:59:41 2496413 Link 1 |
I saw a Limerick flag outside a house in co.Derry. I originally thought it was a Fermanagh flag as the logos are similar. PattyONeill (Derry) - Posts: 250 - 23/07/2023 21:01:25 2496414 Link 0 |
Wexford posters standing up for the Leinster championship. Wexford couldn't beat Westmeath this year and Wexford have won Leinster once in 20 years. A very ordinary Kilkenny team will go for 5 Leinster titles in a row next year. That says it all. if Limerick were playing in Leinster they'd win 6 or 7 All Irelands in a row because they'd only have to peak for a semi final and final. Limerick nearly came undone this year in Munster where Cork could have knocked them out of the entire championship. They picked up the injuries to Finn and Hannon in Munster. The intensity and competitiveness of the Munster championship will ultimately catch up with this great Limerick team and is the biggest threat to their 5 in a row ambitions because nothing in Leinster will beat them over the next few years.

And D Byrnes was riding the Harley, ok Casey got like 5pts in the last 12mins but it was "one man" Byrnes who got them there all long range frees 8pts I think..... silly unnecessary frees given away by Kilkenny.

I wouldnt quite say it's a "Wexford man standing up for the Leinster championship" but if I was from Leinster, your apparent adoration of the Munster championship as the be all and end all would get my goat up too. At the end of the day, I'd say yourself, the Wexford man, and myself would all agree that the All Ireland championship should be an open draw competition and the provincial championships should be held as completely separate competitions in their own right.

Limerick were far from their peak in Munster. And have still now won 5 Munsters in a row. Yes Wexford lost and drew to Westmeath the last 2 years. Exact same results against Galway. Lost twice to Dublin. But beat Kilkenny twice. Leinster is not predictable. Kilkenny are the only side to get out of it every year of the Round Robin. But nearly didn't last year had Dublin even got a point against Galway. Last year was Dublins only defeat to Galway in 6 seasons. They won or drew all their other games against Galway in that period. All that is irrelevant as in another 8 years likely the hurling landscape will have completely changed like it has in the last 8 years.
