Probaly to show that there was some sort of a crowd. I think over 16,000 for the 2 games which was poor

Hi Joe. The used to do that with the Ladies football finals when the crowds were nt as big. The crowd seem to go for the Hogan so if the camera faces the Cusack the crowd looks very small.

Westmeath full value for their 9 point margin of victory, it was basically game set and match at half time. Won't be happy to have conceded 2-16 probably highlights why they are in the Tailteann Cup to begin with.

Hard final to call between two sides that will likely be favourites to earn promotion back to Div 2 next year.

16,000?? How does anyone think that's a poor attendance if that was the attendance? Fantastic crowd, didn't seem like it but overall maybe there was.

Higher than the expected 10,000 but i do wonder where they got that figure as the lower Hogan stand was the only area open and that doesn't hold 16,600.

Sligo, Cavan, Offaly, Westmeath in action you should be looking at 30k attendance at least.

On the games itself Sligo will rue a very wasteful 1st half when scoring just 4 times from 18 opportunities. Cavan into the final without overly impressing they'll know a similar type of performance won't beat Westmeath.

Westmeath was just two strong and produced 3-22 a cricket score against a poorly managed Offaly who got tactics and match ups all wrong.

To be fair, the Tailteann Cup has worked quite well this year, a lot to build on. Hope they get rid of that stupid northern/southern conference thing they had, and it would be nice to see maybe a group stage type thing before the knockouts to give teams more games.

But it gives teams like Sligo, Carlow, Wexford etc.. something to build towards because winning a Tailteann Cup is achievable for all these type of teams. The quality might not be the best, but they were 2 very entertaining games today. No surprise to see Westmeath and Cavan come through, great game in store.

Next year the format will have a group phase before the knockout rounds.

People were in parts of the Davin during the 1st game and were people in the Premium seats too.

Good 1st contest while Offaly must be wondering what their expensive management are at.
Good day, good presenter and analysts too on TV.

Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Pubs heaving with good natured banter before and after the games. Loads of extra trains and buses from the county. Croke Park was the ideal venue for the games. Cavan were possibly the better team but we missed a load of chances.

16,616 in attendance. Stadium 80% empty. Was it really the ideal venue?

People who have been running it down from the start will find any excuse to find something wrong with something.

A question for any Offaly posters. Is Cian Johnson still on the county panel? Is he injured? He was a very bright prospect a few years ago and he still would be quite young.

My final prediction wasn't a kiss of death!! Cavan rightly favourites but Westmeath can be quietly confident.
The winner will be the first county to qualify for the Sam Maguire 16 group stage. Double history awaits!!

Congrats to Westmeath, better team today. Offaly have a few nice players coming through, the subs today led a revival, but the harm was done in the opening half.
Westmeath were stronger, and they took their scores very well, especially in the opening period.
There is hope in Offaly, probably under new management.
