Good win and could have had another goal or two. Stephan Bennett is a sniper, always thinking about goals. Took up the baton that Gleeson dropped.
Montgomery too is putting his hand up for a starting spot in 2 weeks time.
I thought Carthach Daly had a fine game on Fitzgibbon, both Daly's came ready made for senior intercounty physically, skill wise and mentally.
Patrick Curran with 1.03 is becoming more and more influential.
The big test will be Limerick though, Limericks backline won't cough up that many goal chances.
Hopefully Barron, Kenny, Hogan and I. Daly will be back as options for championship and Gleeson primed for Tipp.
Congrats to the team and management, who are doing a fantastic job.

Is say Kiely has Limerick working like savages since the league finished up.

Limerick will bring massive intensity against Cork in the first round!

Congratulations Waterford. Well done. It was a short, enjoyable speech by Prunty. He knows the bigger picture, though!

Very impressed with that last night..from 1 to 20 were excellent..I thought ye were so far ahead I don't know how cork were only 6 points behind at the finish..what's more impressive no Barron, daly, gleeson, hogan and one starter from Ballygunner..if we can get a result in cork the following Saturday night in limerick will be a game not to be missed..could be very close to a sell out..

Well done Waterford. Fantastic display and some well worked and well taken goals. It's the link men and workers that are letting the likes of Bennett shine. Lyons midfield might be as effective as Jaime Barron . But for me Montgomery has put his hand up. He makes things happen. He marks the wing back . He is looking to constantly put a man through for goal. There isn't a player like him around right now. He does his job so effectively.
If they bring that game to Championship then they ll go a long way. I suppose Tipp will be waiting in the long grass but the grass would want to be full of fairy dust to help them in 2 weeks.

I think they will keep their feet on the ground. We know well what happens if we expect too much. What I really like is this team does not do panic or seem to be nervous. We all knew how good Patrick Curran was and now showing it. Cahill also knows Shane Bennett is the same and trying to get him going. Montgomery's work rate will keep him in there. All slick players won't get it done. Carthach Daly is a revelation but you wonder with the U20 will he get too much of it. However he is a Daly. The level now goes up a few notches and so Waterford need to also. If we don't it will be said I told you they are not that good. Comes with the territory.

Does Daly playing for the seniors not make him unable to play U20?

Ya if any under 20 plays senior can't play anymore under 20 championship..stupid rule in my opinion,I'd prefer to see these young fellas play at their own age group..some of the best hurling in past few years has been at under20/21..

Its a bit silly, its robbing the u20 teams big time.
Your dead right that some of the best hurling has been at that level, its a fantastic competition.

If you play even 30 seconds of senior championship your gone for the u20 team, league doesn't impact it.

yeah its a silly rule, devalues the competition, also games don't burnout players overtraining does.

It's usually less tactical and cynical. Agree sometimes it's a better watch!

I agree with you and training with the seniors also. Also putting young undeveloped kid out there in senior against the studs playing today is going to get them hurt. Even if avoiding injury getting hurt sets young player back.

Minors had a close one last night with Tipp. Waterford had only four from last years panel. I believe Tipp had 14. Maybe in the future this team will have success. Some 15 year olds playing. The man thing is to be competitive at under age and Waterford have done that fairly consistently for awhile.

Last presented in 2015, when Limerick one, Diarmuid Byrnes was the last captain to lift it
