I'm old to remember when you could handpass to the net in both football and hurling. From the hand, not as not in football where you can guide ball into net. The great Tony Doran - one of my heroes - was a master of the hurling version. Pat was no slouch when it came to the handpassed football goal. Reason there is a handpass of course is that otherwise you could just bottle up a player and force him to drop it. There's already enough unsightly rucks as it is. I think teams are getting too obsessed with getting the keeper involved in the play. The kilmacud keeper coming off his line and hoofing it was a costly mistake, though they shouldn't have run into a deadend FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2878 - 14/02/2022 13:15:51 2400294 Link 0 |
Disaster waiting to happen. Kilcoo boy was cute enough watching him all through and noticed that a few times he'd stayed behind him! Only needs to happen once. As Tyrone almost found to their cost last year as well. High risk.

Likewise here Barney, I remember as a kid watching Tony drag the whole full-back line into the back of the net, after catching an impossible ball.

obsessed yes and perhaps could understand it if the keeper had good skills and one of the defenders was willing to drop back and cover the goal but it was neither from Kilmacud.

Agree both codes. Coming out to drive it wides the majority of the time. The refs needs to let the other team restart but is too busy writing the score in his book that someone else could do. Primitive. Once the goalie gets caught out a few times that will end it. Hurling is worse where the goalie is taking the free with a plank. Regulation needed for use of an outfield stick,

Every player on the Kilcoo team went to the same small rural primary school, they had so send on two players who had already been substituted such is the extent of their resources. 400 club members versus well over 4000 so yes this was a Samson and Goliath match up. dry your eyes.

Think you were watching a different match, ref obviously over compensated for being from the same province and gave Crokes a lot more than he gave Kilcoo

really, Ryan Johnston was emptied in the back at the end of normal time with ref standing right beside him and he din't give it. a definite free that would have probably ended the game in normal time, but the ref bottled it. I thought the ref did a decent job, you only have to look at the ref in Kilcoos semi final to see what a bad refereeing performance looks like (worst I have ever seen) Bronxmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 5 - 15/02/2022 11:01:23 2400441 Link 0 |
Agreed, thought ref was consistent for the most part
