Replying To Canuck: "PItch horrible, horrible, here in Parnell Park. Shane Bennett turned once and half the field came up causing him to fall in a hole. Dublin took great scores and it was a well contested bad game. Danny was lucky not to go also but better to see players on the field. The neck and head challenges are getting ridiculous. Waterford have a lot more scope as that was about half the team. Dublin have a few to come in but less options. However on a given day they will pose problems for other teams. I don't like criticizing refs but if you leave two margin calls close to each other against one team and they get turned over but then you call the margin one against them it looks bad. Especially all in the one sequence of play." Think in that match one of the waterford players took the helmet off the other waterford player on the ground when he was fouled for the penalty definite penalty and black card but exaggerating the injury to be serious head injury is just plain gamesmanship even though he was nt hit in the head . When someone is genuinely hurt it may be missed or passed in intial stage as more gamesmanship. Surely at this stage something needs to be done about exaggerating injuries especially head injuries . Maybe if suspected head injury ie helmet comes off automatically they must leave the field until assessed and A be replaced like blood sub straight away or B leave the field until next break of play tegardless of they say they are OK or not if not using blood sub(head injuries assessment sub It might just stop lads holding their head when only body contact took place and looking to get opponent booked or sent off if there is punishment down to 14 or haven't to leave the field. Would take some of the responsibility away from the ref and back to the responsibility of individual players or management after assessment by their physio . Who I d presume would nt put a player back out if genuine head injury .

Replying To Canuck: "I took specific notice of this today. A player in the open (no challenge) receives the ball in his hand takes 6 or 7 steps. One tap on the hurley and then another 6 or 7. Is that right?. In the Wexford Limerick game a Wexford player fouled a Limerick player with his hand. On the replay and do it again you you can see the hand went across to the opposite shoulder and never touched the neck or head. A foul though. The Limerick player jerked his head back as if he had got a guillotine slash. I am a huge admirer of this Limerick team but I wish they would stop the simulation crap. Neither am I saying our guys don't do it but the overall award goes to Limerick for this." With the greatest of respect Canuck, i think your comments on our lads being great simulators is a bit of a cheap shot. Can't really think of any of the team that do it to be honest. Anyway congrats today to Wexford on a hard earned win. TBH they probably, like Waterford last year in the league should have won by a few more points

Replying To dubshurling7: "Dublin robbed today. Two black cards for offences that aren't black card offences in the rule book. Both cynical offences but neither are a black card & penalty if the rules of the game are applied." To be fair the penalty rules are farcical. These lads can go out play a club game tomorrow and get away with pulling fellas down. We saw it last year too. What other sport in the world would have two different punishments for the same infringement? Its so hard for referees too, their job is hard enough.

Replying To BarneyGrant: "Waterford used 10 players who played in semi final against Limerick.
Dublin used 13 of the players used against Cork.
So don't be getting carried away with yourself, You make it sound like it was the third team there today!" I am not getting carried and delighted Dublin are so good.Come down off your high horse. Three backs would be regarded as definite starters. Iarlaith Daly maybe also but if DeBurca was available he would have to compete. None of the mid fielders. Four of the forwards with Pat Curran an impact sub. Shaun O Brien was the first choice keeper. But hey many of these players might be first choice this year. That is why you have a panel for. The only point I was making is we seem to have more dept that Dublin but you never know if that means anything. If I am wrong I stand corrected. Again I was not decrying or take from Dublin in anyway half my family are there and my nephew a decent player with Round Towers. Please apply the brakes a bit before you lose control.

Now, now canuck! Waterford would be one of my favourite other teams to watch over the years but you did imply that your boys were massively weaker compared to first choice than ourselves. Not so.
Why would Jack Prendergast not be considered a starter? Midfield yesterday and started against Limerick.
Dublin are probably closer to team that will start in championship even just on the basis that Waterford have 2/3 Ballygunner lads to come back, I will grant you that. But I'd be surprised if there are huge changes either way other than that.
Have to say am a bit bemused by Donal Óg's claim that Mattie is under pressure and of "expectations." There are none among Dublin hurling people - we don't have collective amnesia after all these years! - and the only ones ever talking us up are people like himself who then turn on you if you have a bad day.
Same applies across the board. Most punditry is very superficial. Wexford in crisis one day, giant killers the next; Henry under pressure last week, "settling in well" now; Limerick invincible, now "vulnerable" and so on. I wonder do some of them ever read or listen to what they were so adamantly stating a month or even a weeks ago.

Have to agree with you over the punditry, it's only a snap shot of what happened over the weekend. Look at last years league Galway were flying it and looking very good in hurling while Tyrone left in 6 goals v Kerry in the league. How did those 2 teams work out afterwards. At this time of the year different teams are at different stages of their preparation and trying to find new players. Limerick don't need to win a leaguethis year as it's AI or nothing while Dublin or Wexford would real value a league win. The thing with pundits is they have to say something to get paid.

All true, but some of them set themselves up to be oracles. Which is far enough, it's a competitive market with lots of former players and managers competing for newsprint and airtime. So they go for the soundbites rather than the analysis. Which is a pity because Donal Óg in particular is very good when he looks at the way teams set up, which is fascinating. But maybe not as interesting to people as looking at Mattie's stats like he was Bill Belichick!
TG4 is way ahead on this. O'Grady and Pat Fluery are brilliant and like good horse pundits know the games they are commenting on inside out and have obviously put a lot of work into watching games and players.
Not saying the TSG lads don't know their stuff but there's too much agenda setting. Yesterday and last night it was almost like they were trying to start a campaign to get rid of Mattie Kenny! Did the same with Davy and Derek McGrath and now Davy's on the other team looking for a new gig!

I don't believe Jack ever played mid field for Waterford or Jack Fagan at half back and don't believe either will. So I was also looking at make shift positioning but the over numbers much the same. Now this might all change for who will be the first 15 and where they play. One thing I am pretty sure of that we and yourselves will as usual be long odds for silverware no matter who have out there. Up the Dubs and Deise both could do with success.

Believing from what I see for the snapping of the head back with no contact . What they have brought to the game in attributes far out weighs any negatives. The Ballygunner thing has been trashed to death. Leavy got a frontal charge when play was stopped. Coughlan got hit with a hurley on the hand when play was stopped. No accidents. Ballygunner took their share of hard fair knocks the last game. Did any thing you saw that day give cause to believe they had a propensity for simulations ? Incidentally I never said Limerick players are divers and don't believe they are either.

I hate to make this a rules subject again but some things are obvious. There is a reason why a player jerks his head back because 80% of the fouls are hands around the neck and head. The players know and feels it coming. These grabs around the neck are so dangerous. You remember when helmets were been dragged off because creating a similar danger. It became a red card and now it has mostly fizzled out. There was also simulation then with straps let lose. Red card for head tackles and they will stop. The other one that I can not understand is these throw ins. Seems pretty simply. The ref points to two player for the throw. Everyone one else has to move back 10 yds. If anyone infringes a free. Who cares if he call it on the wrong team. They will stop doing it, That's how it works with the face-off in hockey and for the same reason. Right now he is looking for a spot in the ruck to throw it were it won't bog down again and gives advantage lots of times to one team. Yesterday's game. There was outrage at playing the club game in Dungarvan with the state of the pitch. Fraher field looked liked Wembley compared to Parnell Park yesterday. The game should not have been played there either in fairness to both teams.
