Replying To FarFrom:  "As far as I'm aware it's only the bottom team from the league that plays 3rd place from relegation play offs. This would probably mean a Toome vs Harps playoff and I would fancy Harps to win."
No. The format is the bottom team from the championship relegation group is relegated. The second-bottom team from the championship relegation group plays the loser of the league relegation play-offs at the end of the year in a relegation final.

If the league relegation play-offs losers finish second bottom of the Championship relegation group they are automatically relegated without a playoff. If the league relegation playoff losers finish bottom of the Championship relegation group then the second last team in the championship relegation group is relegated without a playoff.

So in Senior. Since Carrick lost the Senior League Relegation Playoffs then it means if Donaghymoye beat Blayney and Aughnamullen beat Carrick this weekend in the Championship Relegation Group then both Blayney and Carrick are definitely relegated.

In intermediate, Blackhill has to play a relegation play-off at the end of the year as they lost the league relegation playoffs. Toome can't go down as they topped their group in the Championship so are in the semi-final of the Championship and won the league relegation final against Blackhill. So intermediate looking like Tyholland v Harps will decide who goes down automatically with the winner more than likely finishing second last and playing Blackhill at the end of the year to decide who stays up.

When were the last time Blayney were Intermediate or did they ever play at the Intermediate grade?

County board meeting called for 8pm tonight to announce new manager. Word on the ground is Michael Mc Dermott. Has the gig.

Had a look at the man's CV and will be honest it's a lot better in terns of mgmt experience and record than any of the names mentioned to date so good luck to him.

A cavan man over monaghan, the best of luck to him. I don't think Blayney have been intermiedate since their formation in 1905.stand to be corrected.

I think I am right in saying Blayney nor Scotstown was ever Intermediate? I stand to be corrected!

Surely Donaghmoyne will get the job done this weekend. They have been impressive all year, especially in comparison to the one of the worst Blayney setups ever seen. It will take some class of black magic to turn the result in Faughs' favour.

Game of the weekend for sure. Aughnamullen will tear into Carrick at the same time, who will offer little resistance. That will leave only one 'town team' in senior grade for 2023. Unreal.

Irish News are reporting it'll be Vinny? That's what I'd heard last time I was home too, but granted that was a couple weeks ago now

What does Vinny Corry bring to the table that Mark Counihan?? Coming in to manage players he played alongside. Baffling. Would think McDermott if interested would be a much better option with maybe Vinny and Marty in the backroom team.

Correct. Blaney and Scotstown have never been down. Intermediate only came along in the sixties or early seventies. Blaney by the fact that Tydavnet parish was only amalgamated under the Scotstown banner in the late fifties would have the longest by far stint in Senior.

I don't care what record he has I couldn't take a cavan man over us... I wouldn't go to any matches.

I was told a month ago it was Vinny and I hope he gets it tonight.

Donaghmoyne on form should win easily I just think there will be men turning in blayney graves if it happens.. imagine being on the faughs team that were put down by Donaghmoyne. Just think that will drive blayney to a win..

Fair enough, I wasn't aware that there had been playoff between the bottom two.

Vinny not the worst appointment if it happens. It'll be interesting to see who his backroom staff is beyond Martin Corey. Banty had a great backroom team on paper, but at times we looked like the most under-coached team in Ireland. Hopefully Vinny has seen not what to do from his team in that set up as much as anything.

Vinny confirmed as manager tonight. Backroom team of Marty Corey, Dermot McArdle, and Gabriel Bannigan.

Best of luck to him, would be a very respected figure in the county and a natural leader, so I'd always seen him ending up in this position someday - but probably not this early, and it's a very difficult job being given to him right now.

I want to wish Vinny the best of luck, he owes his county nothing at this stage.

The questions still remain, what can this management team bring different to the table? Vinny has been there the past 2 years, what will change next year?
I feel we missed a serious chance to begin a new chapter, put the old team to bed and develop a new one to last 5-10 years. Vinny will be loyal to the players he's played with over the year, it's very understandable, but that's not what is best for Monaghan football.

The backroom team is as exciting as a wet blanket. Feel we've ended up scrapping the barrel here folks.

Former Monaghan captain Vinny Corey has been announced as the new manager of the Farney County bringing to an end a long, drawn-out search for Séamus McEnaney's replacement.

A host of names, such as Jason Sherlock, Mark Counihan and Ger Brennan, have been linked to the position since 'Banty' stepped down after their qualifier loss to Mayo in June, but it's the Clontibret man who has been ratified.

Like recent Down appointment Conor Laverty, Corey continues to line out for his club and will play with, and face some, of those he will be managing now when the O'Neill's play their county semi-final at the start of October.

Corey has been appointed on a three-year term and his backroom team will include his brother Martin, Dermot McArdle and Gabriel Bannigan.

Pros: Knows the club scene quite well, will get respect, knows the current crop quite well and the Inter County scene , has played at the highest level, his brother Martin is an excellent coach, expense probably cheap enough on CB,

Cons: could be loyal to older players, was there under banty which was quite drab, lack of management experience, was the last resort after a shambles in getting a manger, and these type of appointment so soon after a player has just retired can be risky

Have huge respect for Corey. Others might have got the plaudits but his unselfish displays on some big days were key to Monaghans success. Was a clever player also. Respect for him won't be an issue. I'd share others fears through that he will find it hard to move former teammates on but the flip side of that is he might be the right guy to do this being so close to them. Will the style of play be different than under banty ? Really hard to know. Wish him the best of luck.
