It's up to the player. The whole online announcements is a load of waffle. You don't see announcements from companies when an employee leaves .

Shane Carey not retired just took year out same as Conor Boyle. Not much said about either lads who are big misses this year by the looks of things

Maybe not but they've given alot of their time to County over the years. Your never missed till your gone.

I think you're conflating what I said with something else entirely. Acknowledging & recognising a player's contribution to a team and county need not be subject to player approval, it is a simple act of appreciation for their efforts with no waffle required. Your comparison of an amateur intercounty player's retirement to that of a company's paid employee is a peculiar one. monaghan_ultra (None) - Posts: 211 - 02/03/2024 21:31:58 2529304 Link 2 |
Good luck Vinny and team today. Its been a tough few weeks in a footballing sense but getting the missing personnel back and match fit for championship has to be priority now. There's a sniff of a change against Galway today who are suffering similarly with their panel. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1058 - 03/03/2024 10:05:08 2529374 Link 1 |
Big game today a Win could keep us safe. Galway have Dublin and Kerry to finish off the league while Roscommon have Kerry and Derry. Both counties seem to be suffering from injuries but hopefully the lads can put in a big one today. On a side note I actually believe Monaghan don't release the team so people they can gain revenue from the half time draw ticket attached to the programme. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1928 - 03/03/2024 10:49:18 2529385 Link 0 |

Galway not inventive for any of their 3 goals just poor defensive mistakes. That's the 3 goal our new keeper has directly cost us. Have we any option, just to do the basics ? In fairness O'Hanlon & Mohan huge misses today. If we can get our key players fit then we can still give the championship a fair go. Galway were missing walsh, comer, silke and mcdaid, mathew tierney and they scored 3-12…..

Positive thinking there.. that Galway team were poor enough today missing a host of marquee players… it's at the back that's monaghans big worry with nobody really to come back into defence to shore it up… that grizzly mean edge in defence is sadly gone.. 2nd to most balls and loose in general…only positive is thank god we got Dublin in the 1st game and don't have to play them now because it would be messy….

So if we beat Tyrone will be staying up because Tyrone will not beat the dubs in their last game . Does head to head matter if you finish equal on points or is it just scoring difference in total

Disappointing result today. The goals were pretty much avoidable and it was going to be tough to reel Galway in but Monaghan miised a fair few chances. I thought McCarville did well at midfield and a few others coming back did well too, McCarthy and Ward in particular. Hopefully the team will get stronger over the next few weeks. Still plenty of scope for a good year. Midfield is always the key and as it looks like Lavelle is going to be fullback for the year, the choice here will be interesting, Big men only needed. The championship has a life of its own and there's no telling how the games will pan out. Monaghan were able to pick their way through to a semi-final last year and it was a close run thing to getting to the final. There's always opportunities if you've the will and the smarts to take them. I think Monaghan showed that last year. That should stand to them this year hopefully. Only scenario now to stay up is beat Tyrone in two weeks they lose to dubs in final match and we hope roscommon lose both final games. We could play like gods v Tyrone and would make no odds unfortunately as all they'd need to do is a few high balls on hope of our defence which was div 4 standard in that period today in first half seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1799 - 03/03/2024 17:56:46 2529491 Link 0 |
Don't worry about Points difference. Your county of Cavan won't be relegated !

Agreed ....our biggest problem is no longer in midfield but in full back line....plus goalkeeper ! Paraic Joyce, in his post match interview, said they targeted high balls into our square because of the number of goals we have given away during this league. Hi right he was !

Sobering league campaign since Round 1, team is in transition and patience will be needed. Alot of the new players huffing and puffing but not showing enough for the requirements at this level. Some of the older statesmen especially at the back look tired with a huge amount of miles on the clock. Biggest agenda now is to get the team ready for cavan and for what follows. Look it's going to be hard to top last year, at best we could push for a QF but we are behind most of the elite teams in alot of departments. 222 (UK) - Posts: 694 - 03/03/2024 19:43:18 2529537 Link 0 |
On a positive note thought mccarville and hamill were decent today. Good to see mccarthy and mcmanus get game time. Mccarthy looked sharp. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1799 - 03/03/2024 21:32:10 2529578 Link 1 |
the -40 score difference is the main thing that has me worried...we fully deserve to go down this year and if we stay up i really hope there is no pitch flooded on the final day. we cant applaud and congratulate too much from this league campaign. I know that sounds cynical when we're talking about young supporters etc but its quite embarrassing IMO. MalsBalls (Monaghan) - Posts: 180 - 04/03/2024 11:06:27 2529659 Link 0 |
