Great excitement building around the county. A glorified intermediate all- Ireland but wouldn't it be great to still win it.

So this is the team v Offaly with subs used:
Jason Daly
Jack Smith
Kevin Maguire
Jamie Gonoud
James Dolan (Nigel Harte 68)
Ronan Wallace
David Lynch
Sam Duncan (Robbie Forde, 45)
Sam McCartan
Ray Connellan
Ronan O'Toole
Jonathan Lynam (Ger Egan 54)
Lorcan Dolan (Alex Gardiner 63)
John Heslin
Luke Loughlin (Kieran Martin 68)

Only potential change I see is Ger Egan for Lynam ?

Cavan are physically strong down the middle with Clarke at 6, Galligan / Smith midfield, McKiernan at 11 and Lynch at 14. Also attacking wing backs in the 2 Bradys which will need tracking. Match ups will be interesting.

Replying To Wmeath2:  "Still no sign of official fixtures for football championship. Very unfair on players, especially with Round 2 being mid-week with many players probably having to arrange half days from work."
It is complete disrespect for the players involved.

Meath GAA released the full fixture list for all the championship group games well in advance. Why can't this be done in Westmeath?

Nigel Harte as had a great year for Westmeath Mick but even though he is good a bringing ball out of defense and popping up for a score he's very poor defensively and has a mistake in him. He's also not a good man marker so I feel that is why Jack will go with David Lynch again at wing back as he was brilliant the last day when asked to man mark Ruairi McNamee.

As mentioned Cavan physically strong in the air. Charlie Drumm should start, outstanding in recent league final. Nigel Harte unlucky to lose out.

Some hype building around Charlie Drumm. Must be coming from members of The Downs because I have never seen him play well enough to get near a county set up

Yes Drumm had a great league final at midfield but not enough county experience in the locker yet.

As far as I can recall the master fixture had 2 options for championship depending on how county footballers got on.
Should they reach the Tailteann Cup final as they have done, the first round would be 15/16/17 July which is weekend after the TC final. Then there would be mid week fixtures a few days later for round 2.
Same for the hurlers the following week. Therefore dual players play 4 times in 10 days or so.
Might even be 5 games in 2 weeks with football again the following week.
Of course, the clubs will be told: 'that's what ye signed up to, that's whats in the approved planning report".
Maybe they didn't expect Westmeath to end up in the TC Final yet here we are.
Hard on clubs getting their county players back a week before the championship.

What is the feeling in Westmeath about the Tailteann Cup? Westmeath have some talented players in their side. Cavan probably favourites.

So do clubs just tell their players to take 3 days off work and then 2 more midweek in the hope the game is on one of those days. Offaly, Meath and Longford have been sent out all fixtures and exact dates and times for the group games. Can't understand why it can't be done in Westmeath. Send them all out and that's the fixtures secretary & CCC job done until the knock out stage!!

The feeling would be that Westmeath has a decent chance

Bookies leaning towards Cavan at 8/13 with Westmeath at 13/8 which is about right.

I hear that championship fixtures for round 1 and 2 are being compiled as we speak (meeting last night) and will be with clubs by Friday. Some clubs will be out Fri 15th so only getting a week's notice.

If both teams play to their semi final form, I'd reverse those odds with Westmeath slight favourites. Very hard to call, which is what you want for a final. Best of luck to all, hopefully it's a good game of proper football.

Some teams are playing on Sunday and then playing again on tuesday evening. Bit of a farce really. Lads waiting all year for the championship are then expected to play 2 tough games in less than 72 hours. Tough on the smaller panels of players.

Have the fixtures been announced to know this? I haven't seen anything yet.

They have. The clubs have the fixtures. Sent out yesterday.
Hopefully the weather will be good for the midweek games. I think it was 2017 that a round of midweek games were played in darkness.
