Kieran Martin hasn't the kegs for inter county anymore and that was evident again last Sunday in Belfast! Yes; definitely worth throwing on for the last 15 minutes at full forward.

Replying To Claretandblue:  "There's no way that anyone who was at even 4/5 of our 7 games could claim that we've unearthed even one new player who has cemented his championship place. Ronan Wallace, Sam McCartan, Jason Daly apart from two errors against Fermanagh, John Heslin in some games, Jamie Gonoud and Jack Smith were our best players with Wallace and McCartan outstanding and each of those have been a regular championship starter in recent years. Conor McCormack is now injured, Ger Egan and James Dolan have been unavailable, Kieran Martin has played maybe 50-60 mins in total in 7 games and the likes of Robbie Forde and TJ Cox have been under utilised."
Well I was at every game. I can confidently say David Giles has cemented his place along with Jonathan Lynam for the Longford match. Both have got better with every game. Lynam was outstanding last Sunday.

Finally we have accepted that Connellan is not an option at midfield and he is best suited in the half forward line. However; Duncan went off injured in Belfast last weekend and midfield is a problem again if he is out of the Longford game.

Fully agree with this team Kieran Martin no where near this team, forwards like Dolan, forde as cover. Did her Egan play with Tyrllspass pass yet this year ?

Can't see Dolan or Egan being ready to start but would be great off the bench.
Jack is obviously a fan of D Lynch so I expect him to start - he has done well in recent games.
I guess team is fairly settled with only 1 or 2 places up for grabs.
Above positions are debatable but can't be too far off.
A dark horse could be K O'Sullivan who is flying with The Downs.

Was at The Downs' win over St Loman's last night which the home side won 2-20,2-12. Some county players playing but Lomans missing Heslin, OToole, Cox, Regan plus county U20's. Downs missing a few too. Fine set up out there with decent flood lights on back pitch.
Anyway, Jack Cooney could do worse than call in Shane Dempsey (if he's available/interested) who put up a big score maybe 2-6 or so and is flying at full forward. I see Rosemount beat Garrycastle this evening.

Interesting Big Sur, I was at the game too and thought the very same. Dempsey scored 1-9 and was absolutely flying - would be great to see him back in Maroon this year. Good game for 40 minutes until the Downs pulled away. Great facilities out there.

I stand corrected it was 2-9 Shane Dempsey scored - some display. Loughlin was in good form also!

Dempsey is a funny one. I was at the Lomans/Castledaly game a couple of weeks ago in the league and he was poor on the pitch. Young Fitzpatrick from Castledaly gave him a torrid time. He must have kicked 8-10 wides on the night, in very good conditions. Lomans only scored 5 points. From seeing him over the years, he appears to be very hot and cold. Has very much a shoot on sight policy, whether the shot is on or not.

Dempsey hasn't played much football in the last 3 years so I'd say he needs another 6 months under his belt to get fully up to speed. Was still the difference on county final.
Forwards like Ned cully, Brandon kelly and Sam maxwell looked interesting players and there doesn't seem to be much about them in the county circles of late.Anyone know the story on that?

Interesting to see Robert Fordes name not mentioned I was chatting a lad from multy at the weekend and said the were hammered by moate at the weekend and forde scored 2-13. Surely this cannot be overlooked.

Scoring 2-13 is a cracking effort but it's for a senior club who are really going well versus a junior club missing Anthony McGivney. I'm surprised Forde hasn't seen more game time in the league, a few mins here and there. Sam Maxwell not on panel which is a surprise as he impressed last year. County footballers conceded 6 goals in challenge match on Sunday which is worrying. Offaly won by 8-9 points.

High scoring game last night in Wicklow with Sean Leech the difference between the sides. He's certainly worthy of a senior call up but he's a Leaving C student and prob better to wait until his exams are over. 2-3 from play last night and his pace is a huge asset. Away quarter final next Thursday in Parnell Park which will be difficult, defensively we need to tighten up as Dublin will score at will based on last night. Attacking wise we have lots of potential with Devin Hill, Senan Baker, Matthew Whittaker and Ben McGauran.

Hey Claret are you optimistic for the game against Dublin next week? Many from last years team underage this year? I am curious to see how Westmeath get on this year at under twenties. I think this is the same group that played Dublin at minor? I was actually at that game randomly enough. It was a really entertaining game and felt Westmeath left it behind them. Could've beaten Offaly last year too only for losing their free taker to injury for the crucial last quarter.

Was at the u20 game last night. A very entertaining match. Some brilliant individual performances. Leech was very good along with Baker. Baker has massive potential but I wouldn't be rushing any of these lads to move up to the seniors yet.

My man of the match was probably Dylan Murtagh who came on at half time and was outstanding and turned the game in our favour. Will definitely stay next Thursday with the impact he had on the game last night.

McGauran and Daly at midfield had a good game. Smyth at full back looks like a very promising player also. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if they take Dublin also next week which worker give Westmeath football a massive boost. This team lost a very tight match to Offaly last year who of course went on to win the all Ireland.

We certainly have a chance and the team that finished last night will prob start next week. Dublin rarely have poor underage sides and physically they're usually imposing. I felt our full back line was under pressure. Parnell Park is apparently a tight pitch, this competition is notoriously difficult to predict.
