Don't know anything about the ins and outs you refer to but meant to have said that Gannon neither started nor came on. Nor did Costello, Odd that both were named to start but not heard any reason why. Although one chap reckoned Gannon is not going to start for either footballers or hurlers as injury is nowhere near rehabilitated. Lads with pretty good insight into the club scene were scratching heads, I imagine Costello issue is separate. A good few of county footballers are on a break it seems. Probably be back for the football. Con being case in point although I imagine he was missed yesterday in what turned out to be a much closer game with Crokes than had been forecast. Well another 1 step forward and 2 steps back for the Dublin Hurlers...... Micheál Donoghue departs after two seasons in charge of the Dubs, having been appointed ahead of the 2023 campaign. Dublin GAA last night confirmed Micheál Donoghue stepped down from his role as Dublin Senior Hurling Manager. I think Micheál is a cert for the Galway job now. Dont rule out Davy for the Dublin job. Dublin need to pick internal manager. I would include Joe Fortune in that given his long involvement in underage and Boden. Did decent enough job with Westmeath. Our job has become CV filler. Donoghue probably back to Galway telling them how to beat us! If Henry gets it I'm not watching them next year. Same lads laughing at us like Brennan happy to take piles of cash destroying Cuala. I actually like the chap but he's perfect example of the huge gap between the managerial merry go round farce and what the game is supposed to be about. Lads full of passion about * checks crest on top * one year and then jostling them and roaring into their faces the next. I suspect Dublin was one of his next destinations but one or other party demurred. I am deadly serious about not attending any senior county game if any of the named outside candidates get the job. No sign of any appointment so whoever it is will not even have seen most of the county championship. Absurd to think that Henry or whoever - no harm to them - is going to come in when its over or as good as over and then bring something new to the table. Donoghue back with Galway. Nice chap and did a reasonable job but another example of why Dublin need to get off the managerial CV booster cycle. 1961 team that reached the final had just one non Dub on it - Paddy Croke of Tipp who spent his entire adult life here. Hurling as credible sport in county among Dubs rather than country folk like my Tipp family only took off when local clubs like Vinnies started to beat -sometimes literally !! - teams made up of temporarily Dublin domiciled Guards and soldiers and teachers. We have a good basis to at least remain among top tier - albeit nowhere near contenders at moment - but that requires same top to bottom structures as in football. No need for some lad spending a few lucrative years here before moving on again. I would say same applies to Antrim, Westmeath, Laois and Wexford - and Wexford have learned that I think.
