I don't think McCormack is the type of player to engineer a free that way when he has the pace and power to break inside, anyways it wouldn't have affected the result either way.
Claret&Blue agreed it wasn't near the standard of Friday's game but there was plenty of moments of quality throughout.
Luke Loughlin would be an option for the county team but you'd expect him to stick with the football. He's gifted at both, probably more needed and influential for the footballers you'd have to say but I thought he excelled in the full forward line yesterday, in theory a full forward line of Niall O'Brien, Darragh McCormack and Luke Loughlin would be potent. Especially at Joe Mcdonagh level.
Any news on a new manager? Needs to be in attendance for these games.

Well I seen Johnny at Raharney game as was Kevin. Kevin was also at league finals..... The two of them would know all this already about who's capable of intercounty

You also seem to be the type of person to succumb to hype and believe that Niall, Darragh and Luke is the best full forward line this county has to offer.

Where did I say that? I just said it'd be a potent full forward line.. I didn't say they were the best we have to offer. Plenty of other good forwards too.

Reilly is the best inside forward in Westmeath

Darragh is best with a bit of space around him

Reilly Luke and Niall would take a bit of stopping now

Clonkill for a new team look team looked impressive but won't contest a final this year, will win one in the near future as the team matures. Very impressed with midfield partnership of Glynn and especially shaw, very athletic and intelligent, price in goals very solid with penalty save, unbelievable tricky bouncing ball save, stopped 20 yard free from Cormack, and good strong hand in the air near the end. His short puck outs all very good also. Luke Loughlin unmarkable at times, nice to see new young lads making an impact. to sum it all up, Castletown to win easily enough when nialler and Co get back, raharney runner up, clonkill and Gaels to face off for third.

David Williams top class again for Gaels, left right on the run what ever way it comes he has it all, a joy to watch, in my opinion the best hurler in Westmeath currently, still not sold on Tommy Doyle in forwards he has to be at 3 in my opinion .I think the Gaels are a bit more balanced than clonkill and for that reason I think they will nab 3rd place

Kevin O'Brien
Johnny Greville
Dinny Cahill
Mattie Kenny
Seoirse Bulfin

They were the 5 that made the final cut to interview.

Board met last night to take the interview committees feedback and pick the manager. Means we should have white smoke in the coming days

All interviews done by county board according to my source. Former meath manager Seoirse Bulfin is seen as a strong contender. Announcement is to be made soon.

Interesting that he left Meath before the start of the McDonagh citing personal and family commitments but is ready to jump straight back in two months later

More to that than meets the eye?

Would he even be the right candidate? He would have better hurlers at his disposal but I'd rather see any of the other four candidates.

Surprising, I'd have thought Mattie Kenny would be the fav if they were going external. Would personally like to see O'Brien get it

Selection committee was Frank Mescal, Brendan Shaw, Willie Murphy, Pat Reilly and Derek McNicholas.
Wouldn't be surprised if there were more off the county board present at interviews.
I think Greville deserves a crack at it.

i really hope not tbh...Meath have gone back massive with him in charge and when it suited him he dumped them. Also he had no respect for the meath team either when he thought he could manage a top club at the same time. your either fully in or not bother imo.

Dinny Cahill making the shortlist is more worrying than anything else. He's surely well past it and the selection committee would have questions to answer were he appointed. Mattie Kenny is considerably ahead of the rest in terms of achievements and experience but we don't know his demands. Johnny Greville and Kevin O' Brien next with Bulfin and Dinny next. Saoirse Bulfin was one of Davy Fitz's lieutenants for years and that wouldn't render him appealing in any way. County board meeting this week for club delegates was postponed.

Mattie Kenny was mentioned by Damien Lawlor in relation to the Galway job on 2fm during the week.

That's a fair assessment

Always a worry that an outside manager won't build for the future and we will be 2 years down the line, our older players gone with nobody to replace them… all for one Joe McDonagh Cup

Maybe that's why it's taking them so long, he could be the preferred candidate but stalling to see what the lie of the land is in Galway first

I believe that Brendan Shaw excused himself from the process to be impartial with a club mate of his shortlisted

I also believe Derek wasn't present for all of the interviews. One candidate was interviewed by just Frank, Willie and Pat
