No just looking at the table, we are on 10 points, Laois and Wicklow are on 8 and Leitrim are on 6. The maximum points that Wicklow can get is 10 but we'll place higher than them because we beat them. If Laois get a draw or win today Leitrim can't catch us. If Leitrim win today and beat us next week, they'll be promoted ahead of us due to beating us. If Laois lose today and next weekend (unlikely scenario) then Wicklow could be promoted. If Sligo, Leitrim, and Wicklow all finish on 10 points, more than likely Leitrim and Sligo will be promoted unless Wicklow put up a cricket score next week. So, although it would be great to have a winner takes all tie with Leitrim next weekend, I'd really just like us to be promoted today. letsgosligo (Sligo) - Posts: 103 - 19/03/2023 11:07:58 2464653 Link 0 |
Ah, come on - surely you'll be hoping for a Leitrim win to set-up a winner takes all match in Carrick? Solo Run (None) - Posts: 316 - 19/03/2023 11:25:18 2464654 Link 0 |
Wicklow could very easily put up a cricket score against Waterford. Leitrim hammered them, Sligo should have hammered them, it is highly likely that Wicklow will hammer them and Wicklow would know that to have any hope they need to put up a big score So we would need Laois to get something from London game to be guaranteed promotion muscles (Sligo) - Posts: 466 - 19/03/2023 12:47:38 2464679 Link 0 |
No idea what table you're looking at but if Laois get a win or draw today we're promoted. Next week's results won't matter.

Be delighted to have that problem to be honest. If we don't win today its all over for us and it's a big ask the way we're playing JimmyNail (Leitrim) - Posts: 258 - 19/03/2023 13:16:21 2464689 Link 0 |
If Laois win today but lose next weekend, Sligo lose and Wicklow win then it comes down to score difference. Yes we would be as good as promoted if Laois win/draw today but it won't be official

Actually I'm wrong, there is a scenario that even if Laois win today or draw today where we're not guaranteed promotion. If ourselves, Laois and Wicklow are to finish on 10 points. It's unlikely though as would either require Laois losing to London or drawing with Leitrim and London. Wicklow would also have to beat Waterford by approx 20 points. I knew maths wasn't my thing! letsgosligo (Sligo) - Posts: 103 - 19/03/2023 13:38:13 2464706 Link 0 |
Lads, ye are getting totally worked up with assumptions and some fantasy thinking. Settle down enjoy Mother's Day. Everything will be much clearer in a few hours. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1996 - 19/03/2023 13:43:08 2464708 Link 0 |
Well done Leitrim, a great win under pressure. A big game next weekend now, score difference now could be massive and Sligo look to be the side with worst score difference. muscles (Sligo) - Posts: 466 - 19/03/2023 15:45:04 2464756 Link 1 |
Need a draw/win in Carrick now after the Leitrim result. Listening to the radio it was a Keith Beirne show again with Evan Sweeney playing well inside also. Lyons and McGuinness will have their hands full. This one is bigger than the Connacht Semi Final V Leitrim. Hopefully a big Sligo crowd turn up. A draw will be enough for us next week. Really hope you e don't regret not taking the big scores against Waterford and late goals to Wexford. Sligoman1234 (Sligo) - Posts: 434 - 19/03/2023 15:49:13 2464759 Link 0 |
Great win for Leitrim. All we got to do is beat them next Sunday. Then we are promoted. .

If Sligo and Wicklow win next weekend they are both promoted as Wicklow have Laois on the head to head.

Love the posts omitting Wicklow from the talk of promotion. We are right in the hunt still. If we win v Waterford, we have a better head to head than Laois and Leitrim. The one thing we don't want is all 4 teams finishing on 10 points, then we are doomed. Otherwise, we have a mighty chance.

To be fair, It's the Leitrim lads that come on to the Sligo Forum who seem to lose the run of themselves. Head to head is the important thing I Think ???? We all have to presume that Leitrim will win this weekend and go on to win the All Ireland. Best of luck to all teams this weekend. Sorry to burst your bubble but you are just hanging on by your fingertips. Anytime that destiny isn't in your own hands you can't say that you are well in it.

Not much difference between Sligo and Wicklow's chances. If you believe Wicklow beat Waterford - not guaranteed, but hard to see anything other than a Wicklow win. They are tied to Sligo - you draw/win then Wicklow nearly certainly go through. That's counts as "well in it " in my book. Not the complete picture but simplified it looks very like its one from Leitrim v Sligo, then one from Laois or Wicklow. Laois desperate for a Leitrim win, Wicklow likewise for Sligo win/draw. Its Leitrim & Laois. or Sligo & Wicklow If you estimate Sligo chances are, whatever, 50-50, 60-40, 40-60, I'd say Wicklow's are about 5% less that is all.
