I wouldn't change the system that's there but I would have only one break in the round robin, play 3 games, week off and then play 2 or vica versa. With each team having a bye they automatically get another weekend off anyway

Replying To eoinog:  "Yes, I would imagine it's an insurance issue. There's very few clubs that have a good existing structure in place with good wifi that enable games to be streamed. Plus you are asking a club to do all the work to stream a match that doesn't involve their own team which is difficult. Markievicz Park not open isn't helping things either but I hate going to group games there because there's zero atmosphere. The group system that's in place is working well but I don't think there should be another free weekend next week. If your winning it's not hard to train but if you are already in relegation you might have to play a meaningless game this weekend, everyone has next weekend off and it might be your turn to the have a bye the following weekend. That's a lot of time to ask fellas to come out for training and morale pretty low as no one wants to be playing relegation games in October."
Agree on this, could be tightened up. One break is plenty and three games in three weeks in manageable.
In terms of atmosphere, would you be pro home and away fixtures?

I would love if home and away was incorporated in some way. The way the CCCC are operating with their times and venues anything would be an improvement.

Agree home and away would be a great move but I fear that it'll never happen in Sligo. In Leitrim and some other counties I think the host club keeps the gate receipts which wouldn't go down well with the county board but then again they wouldn't have to pay out whatever they do to those clubs lucky enough to host multiple games. Some clubs would need to invest in a fence too to keep supporters off sidelines etc. but in 2024 that should be a required standard anyway.

I think the fence thing was an argument for a long time but can't be many left now without that sorted. There were home and away games about a decade ago. Even one home and away and two neutral. I think it would bring a more intense atmosphere to games.

Problem with home away fixtures is that some grounds aren't able to host championship level crowds, but I suppose you could get around that with allowing a club to nominate an alternative. I'd broadly be in favour of them myself.

Minimum requirements though should be a covered stand in case of poor weather, a scoreboard and a proper pitch boundary. I hate games in Scarden as the weather always becomes a huge factor and also, if there's torrential rain you get soaked because there's no stand there at all! It's actually embarrassing that the centre of excellence didn't include a covered stand for matches!

Farnan's and St Michaels might be the only two left at this stage alright but still should be sorted regardless of championship games. Yes a one home, one away and two neutral would be a good start. It might actually force some clubs to invest a bit in their pitch facilities if they were hosting their own games.

There isn't a stand in scarden because it was built as a training centre. Not for holding championship games. I think its an insult to clubs bringing them there and games scheduled there should be straight up refused by clubs. Also annoys me having underage finals there.

Agree with you.
Scarden wasn't built for games . How many grounds have match standard floodlights now ?

Harps, enniscrone and tourlestrane off the top of my head. But scarden doesn't even get many lights games so that's not an excuse why they put them there.

The most striking thing about this weekends games is that the prime slot of a Saturday evening game under lights is a Junior match .
Anyway here are my predictions.
Coolera v Tubber..... Coolera by 7
Mary's v Molaise...... Marys by 2
S.Gaels v Easkey........ S Gaels by 2
Drumcliffe v Tourlestrane..... Tourlestrane by 1

St.Johns v Castleconnor....Johns by 2
Bunninadden v Owenmore Gaels.... Gaels by 4
Eastern Harp's v Enniscrone........Harps by 4
Coolaney v St. Pats... Coolaney by 1
By Sunday evening the picture will be much clearer on how things stand heading for the last group of games

Tourlestrane, Eastern Harps, Enniscrone Kilglass have hosted games under lights, have Curry too??? Agree on the comment regarding Scarden it was never meant to be a venue for games or if it was should only be when club grounds aren't playable but often its the reverse. Ya don't see other counties hosting games in their centre of excellence unless they have to. Derry are an exception because they invested in one pitch being capable of hosting county games.

I don't know why something isn't sorted out with Summerhill either for when club pitches aren't playable.

Agreed. I don't know a team that enjoys going to Scarden.

Drumcliffe 1-6 Tourlestrane 0-7, both teams played better against the wind. I know it was cagey and defensive but I enjoyed it. Some excellent scores and turnovers although it was lacking in intensity for the most part. Lally's goal was classy and a great move. James Donlon looks back to his best, his transitional play was impressive both defensively and attacking. Eoghan Smith is a massive weapon from range, and he links well. Power and Regan played well. That being said I thought Tourlestrane only really played start of the second half and were far too passive. Where was the intensity they showed against us. There weren't very accurate today either. I thought Johnny Kelly was outstanding for them and brought the fight with Neil Egan. There was a lot at stake for Molaise in this game. If we win tomorrow we go to 5pts level with Drumcliffe. They play Mary's last and we would be hoping for a draw or Drumcliffe win the last day.

Drumcliffe 5pts +5
Mary's 4 pts +11
Molaise 3pts 0
Tour 2 pts -7
Curry 0 pts -9

It will be a tough one tomorrow, we have to take the space away from Kyle and Cian up front and shutdown Mulligan and the Mary's runners from deep. We better not get sucked into a counter attack game from them. All the best, Molaise.

Last year Tourlestrane got caught with a sucker punch from Drumcliffe and were probably unfortunate to exit the championship. This year has really brought the curtain down on this great team. The news of Solan leaving had to have an affect on their preparations for the championship. I can't for the life of me figure out why it wasn't kept under wrap's for an extra month. It's not as if there's a queue of managers looking for the Longford job. Tourlestrane were looking after him well, they deserved a bit of respect in return.

St Molaise 1-20 St Marys 2-9

Great performance and win by the lads, congrats to all involved. It was breathless at times.

By my calculations we are through to the semi finals so we don't need to rely on results. The only result I didn't expect was one sided affair so the score difference helps us a lot. Mary's did well to get back into it first half as we totally dominated midfield but we were excellent second half and shut them down.

If Drumcliffe beat Mary's we go through on points, if they draw, we go through on head to head with Mary's, if Mary's win we beat Drumcliffe on score difference because head to head was a draw.

We can only finish second so probably face Coolera in semi finals.
