Name clubs in Carlow that have had any major development work in the past 10 years?

I would imagine almost all of Asca fundraising goes into County Board coffers.

22k would be a game changer and would allow them to grow, debt free too unlike the poaching club just up the road.

Well Towngael29, the hurling club has recently put up lights. MLR have bought a pitch and developed it. St Mullins have bought land and are developing it. Plenty of clubs are doing work. The Cocks have done a lot of work. Rathvilly have done work. The Blues have done work with a proper if small carpark.
Asca are sharing with Setanta as far as I can see and perhaps both clubs will come together as one. Maybe that might work?

Could you name these players please?

If you need individual names you must know very little about the Carlow juvenile GAA scene over the past 30-odd years.

Great so you don't have any, just false accusations, there are more more former eire Óg players playing for asca than the other way around

Won't someone please think of poor little Eire Og, being pillaged by the mighty and monstrous Asca.

Give us the world's smallest violin, please.

(I don't want post people's names on an anonymous forum. The poaching has been going for decades. Everyone knows about it).

If the other town clubs were half as well run as Eire Óg maybe they wouldn't be falling apart

Also tullow have done loads of stuff. Bagenalstown gaels currently doing big development. Kildavin and myshall too. Ballinabranna also. You don't go to many club grounds, do you, town gael. My point stands. (no pun intended).

It would be a massive failure for Eire Og if they didn't win the minor and under 20 championships in 2024.

They have almost the same pick as the rest of the county put together, so not winning those titles is more remarkable than going through the motions and winning them (yet again).

Steering back to the money, does anyone know the actual position, I've heard 3 different stories, so are the board looking for some of the money? And if so for what.

You clearly either missed the word "'major" or you are willfully ignoring it. For an example of major work conducted by a club just look at Killeshin. A development like that wouldn't happen in Carlow, simple as. The county board would be somehow trying to channel anymore available into their stalled, embarrassing training centre.

Our County Board are NOT there for their sole real purpose, promoting and supporting the clubs in the county. Their pitiful attempt to make themselves the biggest benefactors of the JP money is proof of what they are.

The Carlow County Board is a game of musical chairs.

Not sure how it is elsewhere, but here the set up seems to be designed to keep talented people out.

Someone told me years ago that because Carlow has a much smaller number of clubs than other counties, it gives the officers disproportionate voting power, which helps them keep out 'threats.' Not sure if this is correct, but it would make sense.

One thing I do notice is that county conventions used to be fractious affairs, sometimes needing two days. Now they seem to be rubber stamp events, which take a couple of hours.

Anyone know how that happened?

Also, it's rather strange that prominent ex players and managers/coaches show almost zero interest in joining the Carlow County Board. You'd have to think someone like Turlough O'Brien would make a good chairman/secretary, or Paul Broderick, or Paddy Quirke, or Cyril Hughes (to name a few examples).

So what's stopping people like that from becoming involved?

What major work did kileshin do?

I would say clonmore have done major work in recent years, new club house new pitch lights. Mlr have done serious work too likewise st mullins. Tinryland bottom pitch is recent enough new gym out there too, fenagh have a gym and will have lights and walking track soon, blues have new lights carpark and new dressing rooms and showers. Grange have a new gym as far as I know. Tullow have brilliant facilities now, ballon are building a new clubhouse they posted a plan a few weeks ago, looks state of the art.

I tend to agree with you on the training center though I don't think we can afford it. Its not a proper training center anyway as it has no gym

Is that because a lot of the day to day running of the county is done by staff now?

Asking the quesrion of whether the training centre in Fenagh is worth it I think misses the point.
Essentially the training centre is there for county teams to train in .
Most of the heavy work is done at this time of the year and I believe its essential.
Take your own club- how many would 'allow' a county panel to train on it for February and March? Say the senior hurlers?
It's essential that we have a centre that our county teams have access to.
Yes clubs all around Carliw are developing their facilities but most are now used to Fenagh being there and Co teams having access to it.
And think about this, what level of access do the camogie county and ladies football have to Fenagh? As it is I think that we don't have enough pitches in Fenagh.
It would be great if 2 or 3 clubs opened up their facilities to county teams but being realistic that is not going to happen

Instead of asking about closing it down we need to look at expanding its facilities. There is enough ground for at least another pitch or perhaps 2 if some coniguring was done and what would be wrong with that?

I wouldn't suggest closing it down just changing it's use. The lack of a gym makes it not suitable for training. Adding pitches won't solve the main issue which is the lack of facilities, if the next works out there aren't getting solid buildings that includes a gym dressing rooms, canteen and meeting room then it's a waste of money. If we can't afford that then develop the dressing rooms on the outside pitch or better again sell the outside pitch and use that to fund the training center.

Where does this strange obsession come from, I think you may need to talk to someone.
You blame every problem this county has on its most successful club, strange.
