they have always puzzled me, great club team, always winning championships, but apart from a couple players, never really had any star county players outside of Brendan Devenney (who is also not from letterkenny lol) NC should be targeting the highball into Pattons area because we know he is not good there. eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 87 - 18/09/2024 17:47:48 2570618 Link 2 |
I say rejuvenated because the O'Donnell's seem to be in flying form, Moore is in the form of his life and for the first time in a few years, looking at the game a few weeks back, Eunans had a game plan. Now we're we at out best, probably not. But that was down to Eunans game plan, they took out our key men. And I expect them to do the same this Saturday. It will then be a question can we deliver something new. And I cant underestimate the two key men we are missing, the two Doherty's, battle hardened championship players who are hard to replace. My head is saying a Eunans victory, but my heart is hoping that we deliver another massive performance. Good luck to both teams and I know Eunans had a difficult few weeks with losing good club men. So if they win on Saturday, I hope they go all the way. The keeper (Donegal) - Posts: 711 - 18/09/2024 20:59:10 2570630 Link 3 |
Making county footballers certainly isn't one size fits all, but there's a sweet spot to make an elite county footballer - Sometimes pressure makes diamonds. Eunan's didn't have as much pressure to refresh their teams and integrate young players as they could throw out the same 15 from the year before and have a great chance of winning titles. No doubt some talent did come through, but some were also suffocated. Open to be corrected on this, but I would presume by quantity, Gaoth Dobhair, Naomh Conaill, Chill Chartha have all started more 17/18/19 years olds in the last 20 years than Eunan's have. I make this point because each of Donegal's All-Stars were thrust into their senior club sides by 18, and most were county starters by 20. Today's panel has three star men from Eunan's, and I wouldn't be surprised if anyone of the three becomes the first Eunan's man to win an All Star next year. Is this a sign that something has changed, or is it an exception to the rule? SurelyToGod (Donegal) - Posts: 437 - 19/09/2024 14:42:10 2570770 Link 0 |
A big weekend of action ahead. If the weather stays the same we should hopefully see some good fast football and no excuses now for these 0-06 - 0-05 type scorelines. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9518 - 19/09/2024 15:36:47 2570793 Link 0 |
4 stars really, as much as i hate him under long ball, Patton is a top 3 keeper and will probably win an all star at some point. Moore and the O'Donnells are only gonna get better! They arent the be all and end all anyway, sure look at how few the best player in the country from the 2010s, Mr Michael Murphy got...3? He deserved a few more I think this year, Gallen, Mogan and McCole should be getting ones eddieSize5Balls (Donegal) - Posts: 87 - 19/09/2024 20:02:37 2570845 Link 0 |
Fair similarity between the new Champions League format and the Donegal championship and just like the All Ireland format the complainers are out moaning about too many games to get rid of a few teams. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1126 - 19/09/2024 20:48:30 2570849 Link 0 |
I was shocked Mogan wasn't nominated for Player of the year. Moore, Mogan, Gallen and McCole should be getting all stars but maybe 4 is too many from a losing semi finalist? FootballGuy (Donegal) - Posts: 258 - 19/09/2024 21:08:18 2570854 Link 0 |
Until someone actually beats NC i have to be favor them. When it's mattered over the last few years they've pretty much always delivered. Eunans have been inconsistent enough and they don't seem to have young players pushing through and that's not a good thing. Their underage has fallen off a lot from Moore's, Tobin, downings age group down. Since that group who are 22 now I can't remember a minor county player and that's 5 years or so. They still have have plenty talent on the team and of course have every chance but it's NC for me. Ulsterchamps_32 (Donegal) - Posts: 780 - 19/09/2024 22:05:00 2570868 Link 0 |
Yeah I'm the same. People can chat all they want about changing things up to this or that, but when it comes down to it will it be enough to beat Naomh Conaill? They are a well oiled machine and so well used to dealing with tight games. John Haran spoke to this on the Charlie Collins podcast. Eunans need to go out & deliver. They have the capability to beat NC, but when the fat is in the fire tomorrow evening will they do it is the question.

I would 100% agree with the sentiment on here regarding the Eunan's v Glenties game, a real dog fight it could be. In the other games I can see comfortable wins for Glenswilly and Kilcar, I think Gweedore will get revenge on Four Masters in a close encounter. dgcrusader (Donegal) - Posts: 43 - 20/09/2024 13:40:03 2570975 Link 0 |
I would go with Mogan, Gallen and McCole/Langan in that order . . .

Also, I can't seem to find them on the website but are there going to be match programs available for the matches this weekend? Normally when we get to this stage of the competitions there are ones available. Don't see them on the website but. dgcrusader (Donegal) - Posts: 43 - 20/09/2024 14:15:45 2570989 Link 0 |
Niall O Donnell was our best player in Ulster alongside Mc Gee. Injuries to both had an impact on us falling ultimately short. TheRock2121 (Donegal) - Posts: 1193 - 20/09/2024 14:19:08 2570990 Link 0 |
Yes I remember this previously and was handy for games that were online. Hopefully they will have them again.

Peadar Mogan was our best player in Ulster I thought. And he was player of the month in May and June for the whole country. He should have been nominated for player of the year.

He was anonymous against Galway unfortunately.

Mogan was our best all year for sure and had a very strong Ulster campaign.

Its the same every year, they pick players based on what they did in Croke park in the later stages of the championship. Some of the journalists involved have probably never been to a provincial gaa ground.

Well what a weekend of games, the championship fairly came to life. Glenties died with their boots on, Dungloe certainly showed what they are made of and a Michael Langan less Michael's caused the shock of the round. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1036 - 22/09/2024 17:47:36 2571273 Link 0 |
