Gonna be a bit of a dreamer here....

Imagine Jim gets the job. Recruits Karl Lacey, Michael Boyle and Mark McHugh as his backroom team.
Convinces Murphy to give it one more year.
Gets likes of Mogan, McHugh and the O'Donnells back on board as well as an injury-free Langan and McBrearty.

Back to basics hard work in winter.....

In case that dream does come true, possibly in a month's time, I'm going to go and have a word with Paddy Power on Monday morning, when odds on Kerry or Dublin retaining their newly won title will be around 3/1, and odds on Donegal will be at least 40/1. I've absolutely no idea how likely a McGuinness return is, but if it did materialise, I'd imagine the odds would tumble to maybe 10/1. I'll sacrifice a tenner each way. Its the hope that keeps us going :-)

You have great imagination Lockjaw. Sorry to burst your baloon, but Mark McHugh is a very important member of Davy Burke's division 1 team in Roscommon.

Don't think anyone will be too concerned about a backroom team member if McGuinness happens!

Not sure Mark McHugh has done anything yet to make us think we are missing out. I'd love to see him come home and take the minors or under 20s before coming in with the seniors. Look at Kerry's underage teams, men dripping with All Irelands are in charge of them.

Probably if Mark was interested Martin wouldn't have gone in to the manager selection Committee.

Mark might not have much coaching experience but what he does have in spades is game intelligence. There was a good reason McGuinness deployed him as his sweeper in chief.

I can see people wearing new style green and gold hats to celebrate the return of the messiah, with an MDGA logo, Make Donegal Great Again, lol.
McGuinness back in charge would give the whole county a lift and after the year we've had it would be very welcome for sure.

He did. He also tailed off very young. Stopped playing inter-county at 27. That brutal Gollogly hit seemed like a big turning point in his career. His attitude towards training was very poor, as stated by Rory Gallagher when they both did an 'Off The Ball' show. I'm not sure if he'd be the man to lead by example. However, fair dues to him for getting into the coaching game, but it's very early days and he is at the beginning of that journey and not some tried and tested coaching supremo.

I would imagine odds will be up for the 2024 championship after tomorrow's final. Might be worth a cheeky bet at big odds just in case he does return. No doubt odds would shorten if it happened.

Of course they would still be outsiders to win it but Tyrone done it under new management in 2021 so there is recent precedence.

Can see Kevin Cassidy and Mark McHugh both in Jim's backroom team.

He was a serious athlete as well though. I would hazard a guess that his GPS stats in those McGuinness days would make for interesting reading.

It does happen a lot of players. They shine bright briefly and burn off earlier than some may have envisaged.

But what does life give us all but experience. We'd all like to revisit our youth with the knowledge we have now. If he could pass on his knowledge and insight it could only be a good thing. By the sounds of things he's well regarded in Roscommon.

Our GDM will be back in post again soon. Apparently he had a shorter than expected stay in NY due to the team he was training being knocked out in the first game.

The GDM has tendered his resignation and the list is being advertised.

You'd wonder at Michael sitting there today speaking about the Dublin players who have cam back in and now won themselves another All Ireland medal,
for me Michael still has another couple of potentially great years ahead as FF and captain for Donegal.
if McGuinness does get the job I think his first call should be to Michael to put the shoulder to the wheel again.

Yeah the old Dubln players put their shoulder to the wheel and turned up. Cluxton, mc Caffrey and Mannion the three best on the field. Add in man of the match mc Carthy and you wonder why Michael is sitting in the pundit box.

Yes, he has more mileage than most for his age and we can't question his choice to retire, but does he not see we are very close to an All Ireland, how unbelievable that sounds for most.

Them teams today won't be getting better next year. And the teams behind them, with a Great coach, can catch them..

Watching the coverage yesterday and the Sunday Game last night left me more ****** off than ever. We've basically become an irrelevance over the last few years. I suppose the only way is up (I hope!). Absolutely vital that we get good people involved in the management set-up and that the Academy gets back up and running.
