It could be worse having McHugh pick the manager. I take it the 9 people approached the board saying they may be interested. Some of those i fear could be our recent underage managers who won nothing but have time/interest. The young Barrett fella will be 1of them by reports of his ambition. Not sure results and style of play match up to his reputation. EP (Donegal) - Posts: 80 - 25/07/2023 12:02:05 2496761 Link 1 |
I'd say if you took a vote among the fans McGuinness is the man we want, if he's interested then surely he is a shoo in? Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3066 - 25/07/2023 12:37:06 2496769 Link 1 |
I met a man this morning and he's also heard about a name that would be very good that is apparently amongst the 9. It's time for the second coming. SignTheContract (Donegal) - Posts: 197 - 25/07/2023 12:37:56 2496770 Link 0 |
No chance. Hope I'm wrong. He might be in the background of some ticket giving advice or training the team once every two months but that will be it. The same job Peter Canavan had with Tyrone the past few years. Gives his insight to Doohar and co. While not to be dismissive of this, anyone who thinks he's coming back as the main manager is deluded.

Are all the candidates from Donegal or is there any outside interest. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1126 - 25/07/2023 14:50:50 2496818 Link 0 |
The keeper keeping quiet. Maybe he's sworn to secrecy or better still part of Mc Guinness back room team. I would love to see Mc Guinness back as manager but I don't think it'll happen . rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2580 - 25/07/2023 15:17:27 2496832 Link 0 |
Still think there is a lack of transparency ... What exactly does 9 'expressions of interest' mean? Is that 9 people who want to be manager or 9 people willing to help out in some way with coaching or part of a management setup etc. greenfan (Donegal) - Posts: 586 - 25/07/2023 15:28:13 2496838 Link 0 |
Do you think all the interviews should be streamed.

Yes, Brendan Devenney was on Highland radio yesterday morning and he knew who was going to be on the interview panel and the meeting not on until that night.

I haven't heard a lot about it. But it would be great to have the process wrapped up ahead of the club championships. Hopefully the new management team can get a good look at what's out there, get a preliminary panel together & set out their stall good and early ahead of 2024. No I don't but they could be a bit less vague with the information they release. Lack of transparency has been a big problem for years and it's landed us in a mess.

In any HR process you just don't release the names of people you go have applied for a job. It just isn't the done thing. SignTheContract (Donegal) - Posts: 197 - 25/07/2023 17:47:15 2496902 Link 0 |
I don't know how true it is but also heard a name that people would love to see in charge would be willing to take it if the funding is in place. Now if that is for them personally or to get the team into the condition he wants I'm not sure I'd hope the latter. Like others have said I'll believe it when I see it so won't get excited yet. fwiw it's worth I agree with you but it's what I heard on Monday there and seems I wasn't the only one but rumours grow legs in Donegal very easily CCFabu (Donegal) - Posts: 129 - 26/07/2023 10:57:14 2497001 Link 0 |
Imagine if he was in for the job and the committee didn't pick him. Would they have to leave the country. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1126 - 26/07/2023 11:31:55 2497015 Link 2 |
Be interesting if mark Mc Hugh is part of some management team. What will Martin do but more than likely mark must be staying with Roscommon. rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2580 - 26/07/2023 12:25:36 2497038 Link 0 |
Is that not just good journalism on Devenneys part? I guess your point is that it was leaked to him. Whilst Molly and McHugh are legends of Donegal football I'm not sure if they are up to speed on the modern game and what is required. I have listened to McHugh often on Highland and e seems to be easily seduced by big names and sons of big names. I hope we don't just chase high profile candidates or star former players cos I don't see that working for us. We need men with track records in the recent past, experience of successful set ups and being involved at the very elite side of things.
