Replying To SouthOfTheGap:  "Regarding the DL Debate, the first thing that struck me was DV seems to have a lot of respect for McGee, and as I've said before, he seems like a nice man. And as I've previously stated, the problem appears to have originated with the inadequacies of the last regime.

Part of the debate was around not knowing who the coaches were, and around Vetting etc. Do people really think that a professional like Karl Lacey, with a Masters in this area, would work with unvetted, unqualified coaches? Any coach, from Foundation level up, knows the requirements for Vetting and Safeguarding are a prerequisite. I'm absolutely sure that was not an issue. But the attitude of the County Board was probably best summarised in the response DV was given by a Delagate; that information was "in a laptop somewhere". If that's really the level of comprehension that the County Board Delegate has of the issues, that reinforces my previously stated belief about the standard of Officials we are electing from our clubs. Prehistoric. And have things really improved that much from the occasion that they laughed at Jim McGuinness for looking for a projector for his presentation. Need I say more!"
I actually listened back. I wasn't too impressed with Devenney or McGee to be honest. McGee wrote well about it recently but wasn't getting his point across clearly in my opinion. As for Devenney, he is being fed half baked information from a committee member, and he didn't come across well. Kept repeating the line " sure why would the county board back Karl and suddenly want him to fail?" He must have said that 3 or 4 times. While ignoring so much of the finer details. He even kept talking about the coaches possibly not been Garda vetted. This is all nonsense and spin being out out by CB. I do laugh when some people on here claim Mcgeehin and Devenney are not chatting about this stuff.

Devenney was very poor. It's 5 weeks since Lacey stepped away and this was a patch-up job from Highland. Fair play to McGee for going on. Devenney kept referring to the county board have backed the academy financially and they r all good people and so on. He also mentioned on a couple of ocassions that he has spoken to county board officials. The spin they r putting out there is extraordinary and if the clubs and people of Donegal GAA put up with that, then we get what we deserve. Basically just said it was a personality clash. This has nothing to do with personalities and good people, this is about Donegal GAA and it moving forward. McGuinness has left us with a legacy of how to do things properly and we are now back to base camp.

In fairness I thought Devenney was fair and balanced. He has to play devils advocate. He is right ,why would the CB want to destroy the Academy? Its a logical question to ask.Millions was spend in convoy, then destroy the academy ,it makes no sense at all.

If both sides had their time back Im sure the would of made different decisions. I am fully confident if both sides look for a solution , a solution would be found. The problem is there is too much bitterness and entrenched attitudes to find common ground.

Its personalities before a solution simple as that!!!!!,and Donegal football will suffer on the back of it!!!!

Its not about who was right or wrong its about compromise and find a way forward for Donegal football. But unfortantely I think both sides are too stubborn to seek a solution!!!!!

Devenney has sided with the county board in any media I've heard, I'm not sure what he says can be taken at face value.

Good man Peil20. It isn't that the CB wanted to destroy the academy. That statement is pure stupid and makes no sense anyway. It's about power and who is calling the shots. That's the root of everything here. The money thing is being used as a stick to beat Lacey with. And don't forget the public still don't know the truth behind the costings. And Lacey wasn't given a breakdown. Random numbers being thrown about.

Some people think Ukraine are too stubborn to find a compromise with Russia. If you are morally right why should you be expected to compromise?

Completely agree re: McGuinness. He brought us up to speed with what was required at the top level to succeed in terms of preparation and approach. For a few years we were rightly feared as a team to be reckoned with. But now we're back to the bad old days. Some great footballers yes, but a see-how-it-goes approach to everything. We'll put it up to any team on a good day but more often than not when it comes to the business end of things we'll be nowhere near consistent enough to trouble the top teams.

So where exactly are we at now? Lacey had a vision and structure in place as to how the Academy would function. Is all of that out the window now? Does a new Academy director come in with his own blueprint or what? How will the selection process work for appointing the new Academy Director? Pardon my cyncisim but the Donegal management interview process didn't inspire confidence. Is suppose if all else fails they'll appoint Maxi....

That is such a depressing read. The county board are clearly blocking progress in Donegal Gaa, driving away our best people like Karl Lacey, Jim Mcguinness, Michael Murphy.

Incredible. This reinforces a lot of the beliefs expressed here, and blows a few others out of the water. We are going to suffer long term because of the egos and incompetence of a few. Governance; do as I say, not as I do.

Jim Mc Guinness and Pauric Mc Shea both have articles today regarding the Academy. County board taking some bashing. Mc Shea calling for heads to roll on executive.

An absolute farce to think of the academy that was going to be in place . This will set donegal back so far. Something has to be done. Mc Guinness right they named people who they said were contacted for senior job yet they wudnt name who was on the selection panel.. whoever caused all this trouble should be shown the door..these people are holding donegal football back.

My God what a mess, must be tough on the senior payers now too with all this going on as well,
not Paddy Carr's fault but it doesn't do much for his street cred, looks like an inside job to appoint a yes man who would play along with the county board,
2 of the 3 man interview panel are now on his backroom team? they'd put FF and the Galway tent to shame,
I knew the way Michael retired that something wasn't right behind the scenes,
kick the lot of them out on their ear.

Yeah my opinion is changing on Devenney, looks like he's been used a mouthpiece by the county board, very disappointed in him, there's no way he doesn't know what's really going on here.
What is it with the county board here? rem when Jim was managing they ran the club championship while the county were trying to retain the Sam Maguire in 2013, it's like they had it in for McGuinness from the start, small wonder he got sick of the whole thing and went the soccer route.

I wonder will there be any self-reflection from folks backing the CB or within the CB themselves. not a hope of the latter I suppose. Big egos desperate to feel important and hold onto their wee sliver of power.

what a farce and it's been a farce at CB going back a long long way in Donegal. I feel for Fergus McGee as by all accounts he's a good man and I really, really feel for Paddy Carr and the squad with all this swirling around. Disgraceful stuff that we all have known about but to see it aired out like this on a national stage just confirming what we all knew and some folks were insisting to us was false or not "the whole story", lán cac bhó agus gan ciall

how do we reset from here folks

"But we feel that the development, vision and pathway for Donegal is not aligned with or supported by leadership within the county. As a group, we have lost confidence in the governance of Donegal GAA"

After Jim Mcguinness's comments this morning, maybe this statement from the academy coaches released last month makes sense now. They would have had a handle on what was happening all along on the ground.

I was attacked by 2 posters on here when I said Devenney was on side with the coaching officer in question. I was attacked on here when I said Jim was ready to help with more than one coaching ticket. I am delighted it's all coming out. This executive won't survive the year. A big change is coming for the better of football in Donegal.

It gets murkier with every new bit of information that comes out.It would be interesting to hear from Rory Kavanagh as to why he pulled out of the job.If he was to have Lacey on his team would that have meant that Karl would not be able to do the Academy job as well.McGuinness is saying the board told him that Lacey was doing a great job with the Academy when he asked them about the Managers job which would give you the impression that that was the thinking. It is also interesting that Jim and Michael Murphy were going to help Lacey with the AcademyIf Karl doesen't return will they help out with the new Head of the Academy.

With all the off the field activity going on at the minute is there any interest in the match next Sunday. Will attendance be effected? Do Donegal fans want to stay up in the league or think considering how management was appointed the best thing would be relegation to drive it home to the board that they got it wrong. Hopefully issues will be sorted soon and lead to better things going forward.
