Replying To totalrecall:  "We can't even win the toss in letterkenny....a nightmare venue, not a good place to watch the game unless you arrive in the middle of the night to get a seat in the stand!"
We were 7 up against Gaway in Letterkenny a couple of years ago, and ended up lucky to get a draw. Fingers crossed we get this one over the line.

Replying To gunman:  "It has been a difficult year so far with the management team coming in late and so many players on the treatment table and also trying to blood new players.I travelled up the road to-day not with any great confidence given our record against Monaghan and the fact that we rarely win away in the league any year.Monaghan beat us 1-12 to 0-10 in McCool Park last year.It can be a bit pointless at times analysing league game given the up and down nature of performances but it is a bit worrying how poorly our big 3 midfielders are playing. It is still very important to do well in that central diamond. All home wins this weekend and if that unlikely scenario were to continue the league would end up with Ros on 10,Mayo 8,Arm 7,Gal 7 with Dgl,Mon,Tyr and Ker all on 6 with score difference coming in to play and we are in pretty bad shape in that regard.Somebody mentioned our bad record in Letterkenny but we did beat Armagh there last year in that big battle.By the way does anybody know what is the story with Ryan McHugh. He has been listed in the program for the 3 games."
Was in Clones today, thought we played wel enough in 1st half but had a few bad wides. Needed to be at least 3 or 4 points up playing against a strong breeze in the second half. Jamie Brennan's goal chance a huge turning point in the match when the sides were level.
We didn't deserve to loose by 8 points to be fair. Great to see Langan, Eoin Ban, Oisin and mogan back. Ciaran is still a huge loss around the middle. I think we will give a good account of ourselves against Galway next Sunday.
A word on Beggan today, outstanding goalkeeper. Scored two frees around the 45 in the first 15 minutes. Was involved in numerous other scores. Spent a lot of his time sweeping around his own 45 metre line and can kick a pass from 40 metres from open play with such accuracy.
Even if we are relegated to Division 2, and I'm not thowing in the towel just yet, it won't be the end of the world. It will take a couple of years to built a panel good enough to compete again. We HAVE to give the MANAGER and the younger PLAYERS a chance. Bar a few players it is a brand new team after all?

Seems very strange that mchugh is named for 3 games evn though he is injured. He was on the bench with the subs for the Kerry and Tyrone games but wasn't togged, took no part in any warm up apart from kicking out balls when the others were doing shooting practice.

Replying To farneygael:  "Monaghan just had a bit too much come the last 20, but a lot of that was down to bringing back the experience of the likes of Darren Hughes, who still is vital to monaghan.
Depending what each counties trainings are like and where they are at could have a to to say in why we finished stronger.
Unfortunately, the days of Monaghan and Donegal being the stars of ulster are behind us, for now anyway.
Best of luck to Donegal for the rest of the league and beyond."
True. Well said.

Our main area of weakness is defence..the full back line. No one goes out to play poorly for their county so won't be naming names on here but some "senior"players shouldn't be near that team. We would get torn apart I'd we played man on man football. I don't blame Bonner and I don't blame Carr , we simply dont have quality defenders.

Everyone raves about Ban going forward with ball in hand , we can't see the best of him because he's stuck in the FB line marking someone.

On a side note young Curran , Mc Colgan, Grant look like prospects. But no player nationwide, especially defence walks into inter county teams. It takes years.

We lost in Letterkenny in 2018 and 2020 to Galway, we were 7 up in 2020 and lost by 1.

You are correct in everything you say. There are no proper defenders in the county because clubs aren't playing man on man football, even at underage teams are playing defensively. Nobody is coaching players how to tackle. Its all about surrounding players and winning turnovers. The responsibility of stopping your direct opponent is gone from the game.

Yes. And Murph missed a 25m free on his good side to equalise.

On Beggan, no doubt that he he was superb yesterday. However, Armagh pressed him hard 3 weeks ago and completely dismantled his kick out. Not only he concede a goal directly from his kick out, he had a couple thrown up for taking too long, and got a yellow card it.

The success of a Keepers kick out is usually determined by the movement of his players around the middle. He has to be given better options than yesterday.

It's not a brand new team. It's mostly the same players as this last few years. We should not be losing to a poor Monaghan team by that amount. We have ciaran to come back maybe one or two more. I've been saying this last few years we don't have the defenders to be playing the top teams and I was told we have as much talent as any team. I don't blame p carr .

In light of the huge importance on this Sunday's game and Donegal's terrible record in Letterkenny would someone from management or county board have the wisdom to switch it to Ballybofey. Drastic measures call for drastic action.

It is indeed mainly the same team. The average age is probably mid 20s, based on 2014 Minor Team. There's no need for a rebuild rather hard work from those players we have (who give huge commitment to the cause).

In the next few years we're going to pay the price for the neglect of our underage teams that has been ongoing for years. We have had no success at underage for years and the players we are bringing through aren't at the levels they need to be at. Dunno where people are getting the idea that we have all this talent available.
Just look at some of the new players in our team now, they're miles behind where they should be in terms of conditioning. I've watched the u20's in the last 2 weeks against Derry and Sligo, its clear their players are far stronger and far fitter than our u20's and have probably been on S+C programmes in a proper setup. We don't have a pathway for players to come through from underage, that's what the academy was supposed to provide and we all know how that's worked so far. Most of our current u20 panel were selected at trials in December, thrown into a squad with a management team that have no experience managing at any level.

This is the elephant in the room that no one is grasping. Underage teams were neglected because the senior teams were constantly getting to Ulster finals and being there at the business end of championship. With Lacey and the Academy system now up in the air, it is crucial that the academy situation gets resolved ASAP.
Donegal beating Kerry in the first game just papered over the cracks and I can't see them win another game this year. Everything has to be focused on underage talent

Replying To Lockjaw:  "I think I'm right in saying that Kerry only have 8 "senior" clubs. Then they have the regional teams plus whatever team won the intermediate the year before which makes up their senior championship."
I'm assuming the Kerry Senior Championship must start later than Junior or Intermediate Championships to facilitate the regional teams later.

People are realising now that we don't have this so called talent coming through. You look at mayo Tyrone Kerry Dublin they have a conveyor belt of talent coming through because they are successful at under age. We have only ever made one all Ireland minor final. Which for a county the size of Donegal is not good enough. You look at teams like Roscommon with a small population but are always producing good teams. For our size we should be winning multiple under age all irelands. But we're not every time we meet Tyrone at under age level we're guaranteed to get beaten. Bonner and r Gallagher were slated on here for not giving this so called talent game time. People might realise now that both of them were playing the best players available to them. . Last years Ulster final seems along while away now. We need every player making them selves available, l

Im sick saying it ALL Donegal games should be in Ballybofey. If you wanted to tick boxes for a venue Ballybofey has it.It gets people in the habit of going to games rather than being dragged around the County.

Falls on deaf ears unfortunately.
