I have been very impressed with Roscommon this year but they need Enda Smyth on the pitch for the full seventy minutes. Game against Mayo will give a good indication where Roscommon are at."
Yes Easter Sunday in Castlebar will tell a lot. I don't think Roscommon people are too sure about where our team are at or what to expect. Mayo are 4/11 favourites and I suppose that's about right. We have injuries and absentees but so have Mayo and they've lost Lee Keegan and Oisin Mullin since last season. Whatever happens in Castlebar, I think Galway will win Connacht this year. While Mayo have been the team of the League getting all the headlines, Galway have been quietly impressive .They are bringing new players through and seem to be building a very strong panel .

100% spot on.

I really can't understand the hype with Derry. They beat Tyrone well last year, but so did Armagh. Unfortunately we are notorious for downing tools the year after we win the all Ireland.

They struggled past a poor Donegal team in the Ulster final, they got a handy draw against Clare in the quarter finals and Galway spanked them in the semi final.

I don't know what the fuss is about.

They've got to Div 1 now and are considered by many as being among the contenders for Sam.

Anyway enough about them on a Ros forum.
Time to be thinking of Castlebar next week. I see our opponents have announced their strongest team for the League Final so they're obviously going with the Cody mantra of win every game.
They'll no doubt be expecting to put us away handily enough.
Any word on Conor Daly's injury. Him fit and Stack out at 6 would be a major plus for us.
Probably Ruane to partner Keith Doyle at midfield and maybe Ruairi Fallon in a 3rd midfielder role?

That's true and like Analyser I think Tyrone will actually win Ulster this year. I didn't realise there was as many clubs in Derry. Time will tell with them. Maybe they do have a bigger playing population than us, Cavan etc. I was wondering how their level of ambition doesn't seem to be as easily replicated by the likes of Roscommon, Cavan and Offaly. It will be interesting to see how the championship pans out. We will get a better picture of where Roscommon are at after the Mayo game. I like the way we stayed up without playing well for periods in games and we still look like we have another level to reach.

Be great to get C Daly back. Could C Lennon be used at midfield?

Well done to the senior hurlers securing promotion and winning the league title this afternoon. Some turnaround after losing and looking down and out at home to Louth. Hopefully will back up that league success with a good championship now.

@Rossie14 it's something they were looking for a few years and was eventually voted in, the plan originally was to have 4 divisional teams in their group with the top two getting into the semi final. I think the situation now is just one match between North and West Divisional teams the winner will face the Group runner up and loser faces the group winner i think a draw to decide with group team they play.

With only 2 teams coming out of every group we should get a highly competitive group stage

Where your team is/was 3rd in Div 1 competitive in every Div 1 game when did that last happen? Of course Mayo playing at home table toppers in Div 1 are favourites with the bookies and punters.

Galway in a good position also all three Connacht sides are, probably the strongest Connacht has been since the early 00s. If Roscommon are to lose next week you shouldn't be too judgemental, leave that for the All-Ireland group stage and if Roscommon reach the last 8 of the championship consider it a very good first year under your new manager.

I understand the thinking behind it, I just can't understand the fact they are being handed 2 quarter final slots, they should be earned imo... if the divisional sides were integrated into the championship like everyone else, then everyone has a fair shot at making 1/4s.

So what are the thoughts after seeing that final? I hope we are starting with full championship intensity. Good to see the second half was fairly full throttle. I would fear that we would foul similar to Galway. However, Mayo backline definitely gives up goal chances. We won't get away with going behind by 6 or 7 points early on.

Was at the match. Galway fouled a lot and gave away a huge amount of frees. When your keeper (Mayo) is man of the match it tells a story.
We have to be up for it from the start next Sunday and can't afford to give Mayo a head start.
I personally think we have a chance if we play well and have a good game plan.
Roscommon won't be as wasteful if we get the same chances. However we have to create them!

Our neighbours are very well placed to spring a surprise on Mayo next week imo. Mayo gave up a lot of goal chances today, the Rossies are very effective at creating and taking goal chances to my memory.
If ye can stay in the game early on and not have a slow start like a few times this year, ye can put it up to them. The Mayo hype train is in full flow now, no better time to come in from the long grass.
Best of luck to ye.

Absolutely, need to be taking all our big chances and need to start on the front foot.

Commiserations to Tadhg O'Rourke. Big blow losing him for the year. He had been doing well through the league and really showed leadership on the field. Midfield now a worry for next week.

I think Mayo was just about deserving winners while thankful Galway wasn't more clinical on their created goal chances. While Reape had a fine game they were mostly saves you wouldn't expect your keeper to make. It was very stop start game Cawley the ref never let it flow.

intensity it the number one requirement from us next Sunday and the main take from watching that match today we'll need to be a lot more disciplined in tackle and will probably need to score a goal or two to pull off the win.

We have to get into the game from the throw in. Letting Mayo got a good start like in the League game will have only one ending....out!

Mayo especially in the first half were implementing the football equivalent of hooks and blocks. Their tackling was excellent. We need to be very careful in taking the ball into contact. Another area they will target us is pushing up on our kick outs. Who is best suited to marshal O Shea?

With the recent terrible decision taken by Croke Park to ban charity sponsorship on jerseys wouldn't it be great if Mayo and Roscommon gave them the two fingers and put Mayo Roscommon hospice on the jerseys next weekend.

We have more accurate shooting players compared to Mayo and they for the taking but we need to avoid physical conformations with them and we need Ben O Carroll to have more effect compared to league game, was marked v effectly

That's said a lot but recent History and stats would suggest otherwise .

See below from Edwin Mc Greal twitter!
"Seven days from the Roscommon game, it is worth remembering an incredible stat - the last three times Mayo won the NFL, they were beaten in Connacht by the Rossies - 2019, 2001 and 1970. It's an incredible stat. Might not be relevant but shows Ros ability to ambush."

Saw that. If this Mayo team are serious about anything this year then they should go and win on Sunday. I can't see any other result to be honest.
