Only 6 of our 2020 Connacht minor winning team started last night Farrell, Caelim Keogh, Michael Sugrue; Colm Neary, Eoin Ward; Eoin Colleran our oldest and most experienced players at this level.

Once another three of those 2020 minors was introduced Oisin Cregg; Shane Walsh,Conor Hand we went from 9 points down to 1 point behind. From then on why from the direction of management we decided to go for hail Mary deliveries into the Sligo box instead of taking our points on offer was as strange as I've seen, last thee points for Sligo came from turn overs and showed the required composure to close out the game.

Questions need to be asked why our preparations for this campaign was so poor. Struggled to get a pitch to train on some weeks and organising some bizarre challenges including the recent one against senior panelists.

We should have nearly full hand to pick from for mayo game. Will Conor Daly play? Very hard to know what will happen but Burke has been talking about this game since the day he took over so I'm sure we will be ready for a massive battle. Mayo are strong athletic and very fast in every area and we don't have that but I'm hopeful we can get stuck In from the first minute and cause a shock

Replying To The_analyser:  "Unlike last year we can't have any complaints about that U20 championship exit to Sligo but I'd question why we didn't play close to our capabilities until we were 9 points behind and why Walsh, Oisín Cregg didn't start. Conor Hand probably should be starting also but given 15 minutes? Then the bizarre tactics throughout the game left me scratching my head all game.

Very disappointing but i wish Sligo all the best in the semi final and who fully deserved their win tonight."
Crazy stuff , did management think they were playing league and saving player's?! Knock out championship against a good Sligo team and that was the approach. Bizarre is the word.

Noel Dunning had since come out to say all three just back from injuries is why they didn't start. IMO if they were fit for the 24 they should start as they were among our best three players and we wouldn't have played as badly 1st half had they started.

Last night was a right kick in the behind and raises the whole question of player development and choice of managements etc
We were awful in the 1st half, 2 or 3 great saves by our keeper kept us from humiliation and our late 1-1 flattered. A good 20 minutes then as we started competing and introduced better players* but Sligo finished stronger as we went for Hail Mary's which the Sligo lads mopped up easily.

Overall better team, better preoared team and better managed team deservedly won .

* I see manager said Cregg, Walsh and Hand all coming back from injuries werent showing so well in training.

Onwards to Castlebar......

Couldn't understand why they went for the long ball into the square so early, there was still a few minutes of normal time plus the 5 of injury. Was infuriating listening to it.

This was the worst I have seen in a long time. Like last year this is a very good bunch of players who have been completely let down by a county board. The appointment of this management team was all about friends backing friends. The interests of the team was secondary.
There was no discernable method to what they were doing for restarts to open-play. They got a stroke of luck with the goal on half time. And the second half was simply about sligo managing the game. Having spoken in the last few weeks with some of the lads involved in this team last night they could not say that they knew what their game plan would be.
Yea this was to be a tough game but I'd say sligo cannot believe how handy it was for them.
The people in the position to appoint management teams to our teams need to have a long hard look at themselves there is no room for nepotism and the likes in appointments. The teams of the last two years have been let down by these people and I hope it doesn't have a know on effect with these player in the future.
Hopefully we will have more to cheer about on Sunday.

Ye had injured players, so had we that's football. We scored the last 3 points to close out the game. We actually threw ye a lifeline by coughing up 1.1 in first half injury time.I wish you luck on Sunday against Mayo"
You can relax. Sligo were the better team from start to finish and totally deserved the win. Best of luck to the Yeatsmen against Mayo. Unfortunately from a Roscommon point of view, our team looked totally unprepared and lacking in any coherent plan particularly in the first half. There are good players on that Roscommon team and Management have plenty of questions to answer. Also the Roscommon County Board have questions to answer. Was Dunning the best candidate for the job. Not on last night's display. I wouldn't want to see him in charge next year. Roscommon's performance last evening on home soil was nowhere good enough and changes are needed before we send out an U20 team again.

Have Roscommon any injuries ahead of the Mayo game, are all of the top forwards available? Diarmuid Murtagh, Donie Smith etc.?

Our established midfielder Tadgh O'Rourke is ruled out for the rest of the year after picking up a bad ankle injury against Donegal two weeks ago. It's one area that we could have done without any injury as Eddie Nolan a starter there last year has just returned to training and another three possible options Shane Killoran, Cathal Compton and Ultan Harney are all overseas. In Matthew Ruane, Diarmuid O'Connor and Flynn dropping back Mayo are as strong as any team in midfield.

Daire Cregg a likely starting forward if fit looks to be ruled out with hamstring injury. Conor Daly who would play full back is doubtful

Diarmiud Murtagh is fit and should start Donie Smith fit and probably used as impact sub

Strong Roscommon team named . Conor Daly at fullback and Eddie Nolan and Cian McKeon in the subs. A good start is vital . We got early goals in 2019. Best of luck to Roscommon players and management on Sunday. Looks like rain in Castlebar whoever that will suit.

The weather forecast is not great for match time in Castlebar. Looks like wind and rain. Not sure will this have any implications for team selection and gameplan for both teams.

The rain would probably suit Roscommon. Low scoring and close. Just keep it close and anything can happen.

Shades of 2019 with that forecast.

Kevin Egan writing in the Western People is predicting Eddie Nolan to start in midfield.

Interesting to see how the starting 15 pans out.
